I've been at LIJ hospital for 2 months now and Luigi's is all that everyone talks about when it comes to food. Everyone seems to recommend this place so of course I had to give it a try. I also heard that the portions are hefty and the price is reasonable so of course that caught my attention right away!!
First of all, I really love the pesto in olive oil dip that they gave us for the bread. It was such a nice touch and I love the simplicity yet deliciousness in the dip! I would definitely recommend you not to go easy on that dip, just go ahead and pour that sucker on your bread! UGH so satisfying!
Next for the main entree, I ordered the Pappardelle Gamberetti, which is a fresh wide ribbon pasta with shrimps, zucchini, pignoli nuts, feta cheese in a roasted garlic oil sauce. The portion was more than reasonable for the price of the dish, which was only around $14! The pasta was made to perfectly, it wasn't over cooked and still had that semi al-dente texture to it. The shrimps were cooked to perfection! Nothing would ruin a dish more for me than overcooked shrimps, luckily these shrimps were not!! The pignoli nuts and zucchini definitely add interesting texture and color to the dish. I honestly could lick this plate if I could! I can't wait to eat there again! 🙂
I would normally give this place 5 stars because I have eaten here before and had great meals, however that all goes out the window on Valentine's Day.
Never saw them mention a price fix menu on their website site and they never mentioned it when reservations were made.
Wayyyy over priced tonight, food tasted great but had to send back 2 dishes as they were cold and we waited awhile for appatizers and meal to come out, in exchange we received a free glass of wine.
They were just too busy tonight to get the same type of service we have received in the past.
Never again on a holiday that's for sure
The first time that I went to Luigi's was for a Yelp Elite event that they had hosted. I was truly impressed by the cocktail menu and by the food. Their burrata cheese is undeniably the best I have ever had anywhere; it is so creamy and delicious, especially paired with proscuitto. Their food is also amazing. I went no too long ago and had the chicken parmesan because everyone on Yelp raves about it; it did not disappoint. The chicken is pounded thinly and it is crispy and has tremendous flavor. I loved the sauce and it is really hard to find a good tomato sauce these days. The mozzarella melted on top is obviously high quality and just added an amazing dimension to the already delicious chicken. I chose rigatoni on the side with a meat sauce that was flavorful and hearty…add a cold Peroni in and you have the definition of sublime. If you are in the area and want t great Italian meal then look no further.
Came here Friday 4/29 for an Early Mother's Day dinner! Had a reservation at 8:30pm and upon arrival, as expected, Luiji's was busy! Luckily there was an open booth waiting for us! 😀 #BossStatus
It was my parents' first time eating Authentic Italian in the United States (Not counting Florence & Naples '13)..Sad, but true..LOL And I had been telling them about how good Luiji's is for so long, and they finally gave in! We started off with the complimentary bread basket with the amazing pesto sauce! While we decided on entrees, I ordered a Margherita Pizza and Calamari for starters. For entrees, my mom got the Chicken Parm, my dad got a special: Baby Lamb Chops, and I had the BONE-IN Lamb Ossobuco w/ creamy polenta & spinach!
We didn't have to wait a long time for food, maybe 15 minutes and the pizza and calamari came out. The pizza was delicious as always. My parents don't eat pizza often, and have never had this type of thin-crust pizza with slices of fresh mozzarella cheese on top. They both started eating the pizza with knife and fork! (I felt 30 pairs of eyes turn towards our table..LOL) But both of them seemed to really enjoy the simplicity of the pizza; not over-sauced and fresh slices of cheese. The calamari was amazing. I've never tried the calamari at Luiji's and I must say, it might be the best calamari I've had in any restaurant in NYC thus far. Not too much batter on the outside, just the right amount of crispiness, squid is still tender on the inside, not too salty; just perfect! Portion size was quite generous as well! The dipping sauces that come with it are a marinara and some kinda spicy mayo sauce (could be wrong on that 2nd sauce).
For entrees, my mom's chicken parm was delicious! Portion was HUGE with a side of spaghetti. Dad's baby lamb chops was one of the specials for the evening, and they were pretty good too, cooked medium rare. My Lamb Ossobuco was a tad bit salty, but it was so tender! Meat literally slid off the bone! Polenta was very creamy and spinach was a perfect combo!
After about 90 minutes, we were so full, we didn't even get to dessert. I've eaten at Luiji's 4x, and I never had their desserts..LOL Service was spot-on! Water glasses were never empty, and despite how busy the restaurant was, it seemed as though every time I needed something, there was a waiter or waitress on standby! 😀
Our first visit here was for the yelp elite event in 2015. We got to sample a few things and were very impressed with the food quality and setting of the restaurant. The bar is nice and long and the bartenders were very quick and friendly.
We left another yelp elite event early so we could sneak over here for a quick dinner. We already had appetizers so we decided on just doing entrees and a bottle of red. Of course, they have my favorite Brunello here, La Fortuna white label – they even had the 2010! This is a great value on a 96+ point rated wine at this restaurant!!!!
We had the standard homemade ricotta filled raviolis with a nice hearty plum tomato sauce. These are 10/10 top of the world raviolis. So simple and just an absolute home run!
The girl tried the eggplant parmigiana (I KNOW I KNOW) and it again was just out of this world. Not sliced too thin, the perfect thickness and freshly sauteed/baked. The tomato sauce here must be san marzano tomatoes, it is so delicious I can't stop thinkin of it whenever I think about pasta……
Our waiter was very gracious and accomodating. Originally they brought the wrong bottle of wine up and he apologized so profusely. I told him to stop apologizing 🙂
This is the ONE place I wish was closer to where I live/work – definitely worth the 30 min ride.
I've been living in this area for three years, and can not believe that I haven't been here for dinner. They start the meal off with bread and homemade pesto sauce which is delicious! I ordered the chicken Parma and the short rib pasta which were both made to perfection and I would highly recommend both dishes. Keep in mind these dishes are HUGEEE, one dish can feed 2 to 3 people
They also have a great lunch menu, I Love the chicken margarita sandwich. FYI… Their lunch take-out get super busy during lunch time, so get there early!
My office in Great Neck orders lunch from Luigi's almost every Friday. All the paninis are amazing (the chicken margherita in particular) because their focaccia bread is freshly baked on premises daily. The bowtie pasta salad is addictive, and their salad/cookie platters are a staple for our meetings and special occasions. Also, it doesn't hurt that one of their delivery boys (the skinny dirty blonde one) is super cute; my female coworkers practically swoon over him.
Made a reservation for 2 on a Monday night and it wasn't crowded at all. Even got lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. If you're looking for a nice Italian restaurant to go to, I'd highly recommend here as the food and service is both great. Their pesto sauce that accompanies the bread is awesome. We started off with the calamari as an appetizer and it's your standard calamari dish. There wasn't anything that stood out, but it was good and tasted delicious with the two sauces. My girlfriend ordered the gnocchi and I ordered the penne toscano, both of which were very good. The portions were fair and we were so filled up from the bread and calamari that we ended up having to pack our entrees. It's definitely a great place to check out if you're around the area. Also there's Ralph's Italian Ices on the next block so what better way to finish off your Italian dinner with some Italian Ices!
