The Story: Boyfriend and I came here for a Friday dinner. I was skeptical at first because I've been to many Italian restaurants in the area that is kinda "run down". Let's just say I've been proven wrong about this one!
Food: We started off with apps of mussels in marinara sauce. Mussels were fresh and tasty.
I ordered the Lamb Shank. The meat was tender and flavorful and the portion is HUGE. I am still thinking about the food.
Decor: Very warm and welcoming. They have two seating areas… one for big tables (parties of 5 and more) and one for smaller groups (1-4 people).
Price: I think everything was fairly priced. Apps are around $12 for us and my boyfriends entree was $23 and mine was $27.
Service: Service was kinda slow the night we went. They had a big party group. I should be annoyed at the service but this is one of those cases that the food was soooooo good that it made up for it. The owner also came and said hi and goodbye to us. Definitely a family/community oriented restaurant
Parking & Finding the Place: Located in Bogota NJ. It's in a little strip mall by Box's Bagels or down the street from QuickChek in Bogota.
Additional Thoughts/Tips: BYOB
What a fantastic little place! I recently dined here for a small family reunion. There were 16 of us in total, and the staff was able to set up a long table for us in the dining room with enough room to spread out without feeling too cramped. It had been a while since some of us had seen each other so we were lost in conversation rather than looking at the menu, but the waiter made the experience very casual and encouraged us to place some appetizer orders that he could bring out while we all caught up and took our time to choose our entrees. We ordered several appetizers to share along the table, my favorites being the garlic shrimp and the fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers. I have a gluten allergy, so when we were finally ready to place our order, the waiter was very accommodating and helped me choose a dish that he knew the chef could prepare without flour. I ended up going with the chicken special, which included three pieces of tender chicken with artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and zucchini noodles in a port wine sauce. It was absolutely delicious!
Overall I feel that what made the experience so great was the staff. They were so accommodating and really made us feel at home and well taken care of.
I really enjoyed dining at Luka's!!! I have been meaning to give this restaurant a try for a few years now. I've driven by it many times.
The food was delicious! I ordered the Veal Luka, and my mother ordered the Veal Parmigiana. Our entrees were served with family style sides of pasta and veggies, which I really enjoyed. We also had cappuccino, and raspberry cheesecake which also enjoyed a great deal.
The reason for the 5 star rating was that we had my 13 month old daughter with us. The waiter and owner were very accommodating. They made us feel very comfortable. I will definitely be returning in the future.
I was here last Thursday for dinner. Love that it's BYOB, that's always a plus. Service was great, our waiter was friendly. The bread they served prior to the meal was good and the salad that came with the entree was yummy, loved the dressing. The portions here are huge! I didn't realize they were that large and definitely was not able to eat it all but they were nice enough to pack it for me. I ordered the chicken marsala. I have to say the chicken masala was good but not amazing. Overall good place, great service!
Had a delicious dinner here Saturday night with friends at this BYOB restaurant. Being that I am not from New Jersey, I didn't realize that apparently many places accept a BYOB policy which certainly makes things nice if you enjoy a particular tipple. (Tipple? Yeah, I'm feeling the 1920's right now) So our hosts had a few bottles of red in hand upon arrival, which the waiter immediately opened. Nice!
The menu at Luka's is pretty straightforward Italian. You can get the classics, the parmesans, food with sausages and peppers, pasta dishes of classic varieties, you get the gist. I ordered the Chicken Francese and they brought out a nice bowl of spaghetti with garlic and oil for the table along with some delicious vegetables. The appetizer I chose because the one I wanted was sold out, was basically a breaded mozzarella with tomatoes in a pomodoro sauce. But that's where the basic part ended. It was so delicious that I soon regretted being nice and sharing it with my dining mates. Yum! My chicken Francese was just ok, the sauce could have been more flavorful in my opinion which is why I didn't go all out with a full 5 stars.
We finished our meal with a cheesecake and the chocolate mousse cake with various styles of coffee. Excellent finish to a lovely dinner in a lively atmosphere.
BYOB!
Luka's is one of those classic italian restaurants where family and friends can gather for a casual evening of fun conversation or a romantic date night. The place is super welcoming, with Luka (i'm assuming the guy who kept welcoming people and asking how the food was, is Luka and not just an older Italian gentleman) personally greeting people. The portion sizes are filling and very tastey. I loved my experience here. The only thing that could have made it better is if the pasta was homemade.
I came here recently for my moms colleague retirement dinner (mouthful 😉 and was not disappointed. Byob (really saves money with many people) and a choice of fish or meat with pasta ( party menu). I had salmon with a number of different pastas along with veggies and bread. Yum !
How I'm feeling after leaving Luka's: salty. I wish I could rewind and not even waste my money.
I decided instead of getting my dad a meaningless birthday gift, I'd treat him and my family to a dinner at Luka's instead. Even though I knew it would be significantly more pricey, I thought it would be worth it… NOT. My family members are by no means picky when it comes to food and even their reaction to the end of the night was "well, it's the thought that counts Jade."
Not only was the food completely mediocre, but we were being rushed by the staff the entire time. They even tried to rush us so much that they asked if we wanted our food wrapped while some of us were still eating… I'd understand if we were taking our dear time, but we were only there for an hour tops. Plus, we had made a reservation in advance, which made me even more upset.
As with any other Italian restaurant, it's expected that the salad with be nothing special. But Luka's salad was noticeably poor- the lettuce wasn't fresh and barely had any dressing.
My boyfriend and I both ordered the Grouper Special ($23)- so bland. It honestly may have been the worst fish dish that I've ever had at a restaurant. I'm always the girl that finishes her entire plate of food. I disliked it so much that I could only bare to eat half. My mom typically loves all fish dishes; she ordered the mahi mahi and didn't like it at all. All dishes came with veggies and family style pasta. The pasta was so overcooked that no one on the table even touched it after giving it a try. On a positive note, the veggies were fresh!
I hate to be so negative, but there is barely anything positive I can say about Luka's. It's BYOB! Who doesn't love that? And the chef was extremely friendly and went out of his way to greet us, which we appreciated. I'm genuinely confused why other Elites have rated Luka's so well..I guess there is a slight chance that I just caught them at a bad time. Either way, I don't plan on giving them a second try and wasting my money again.
