Luke's is one of those places that if it was near my office I'd eat there everyday. Not exaggerating either. Literally every single day. IMO the lobster roll, when properly prepared, sits firmly on top of the list of my favorite foods and certainly my all time favorite sandwich. The opportune phrase here is "properly". Lobster has to be fresh, roll soft as not to overpower with just a hint of butter and or mayo. Combine these simple ingredients and friends, you have perfect lunch fare.
Luke's, while as far removed from the shore as a seafood establishment can be, executed this perfectly today and in doing so, made me extremely happy. What a great place. Lot of reclaimed wood and a seafood shack feel that'd really hard to pull off in the middle of Manhattan. Prices were fair, not cheap, mind you but where is good lobster inexpensive?
People have different idea of their lunch time holy grail eating establishment. For me, for a time in the 80s it was Cosi. No longer. Right about now, at this phase of my life I would probably choose Luke's over just about anywhere for lunch. Their lobster roll was on par with Quincy's in Cape May and I got to tell you, Quincy's is THE SHIT.
Thanks for making my Father's Day just a bit brighter, Luke. Now move your ass to NJ. I'm waiting. Matter of fact, if you check out Long Branch and open there on my suggestion, you'll kill it. Just give me free food when I'm there. No thanks necessary.
Really good lobster roll! Lots of delicious lobster, no added mayo, good roll. The clam chowder had a lot of clam chunks–one of the best chowders I've had in a while!
Quick service, we were able to get one of the few seats inside, so overall a very enjoyable lunch!
Here's some lobster math for you:
1 Lobster Roll + 1 Shrimp Roll + 1 Crab Roll + 2 drinks + 2 pickles + 2 Crab Claws + 2 slaws (or chips) = 2 Tastes of Maine = Noah's Ark = #winning
Alternatively:
National Lobster Day + Luke's Lobster = L.I.V.I.N.
Luke (and Ben), I love you.
Lobster was delicious. I think the portions were lame. Shouldn't have to get a combination meal and 4 snacks to fill up after a fresh Maine lobster roll. The price should be adjusted to the weight of lobster in the roll
I ordered lobster roll and clam chowder. Lobster is so fresh and delirious. This suites for guests who like a delicate sense of taste. It's like Lobster's taste is activated. Clam Chowder is great, too. But total 22$ is a bit expencive?
I love lobster rolls, but I would never waste my time with a place that serves poor quality seafood. Luke's lobster has the perfect lobster rolls that are served on a warm bun. They don't drench the lobster in mayo, which really allows you to taste the freshness of the lobster. If you visit, they have a special trio where you can try the lobster, shrimp, and crab roll. I've had all three and I think they're all yummy. I also enjoy the clam chowder, it's nice and thick and creamy with big chunks of clam, perfect for the cold weather.
I came here because everyone talks about it all the time but according to me, there is nothing great about the rolls and the place.
I ordered the "Taste of Maine" ($24 plus tax), which includes half of each rolls- lobster, shrimp and crab with Cole slaw or chips, pickle and a drink. None of them were amazing but if I had to choose the best out of the three, it will be the lobster roll. This size of the rolls in this combination is small but they put a good amount of meat in each. All of them tasted bland to me and all I could taste was the enormous amounts of butter in the bread and I wasn't happy about it. The Cole slaw was average, nothing special and for the drinks I got the blueberry soda, which wasn't bad.
The seating at this location is limited, two tables that can accommodate three people each and a bar style table that can accommodate two people. So only eight people can sit inside.
Also, even though it says on Yelp but this location does not participate in the happy hour and also does not sell any alcohol.
I don't think I will be going back again.
Luke's Lobster is a seafood heaven for someone craving for some Maine-style seafood specialties. I went to the nearest one near my hotel in the Flatiron District that just opened up recently. To satisfy my seafood cravings, I ordered the Noah's Ark, consisting of 2 half lobster rolls, 2 half crab rolls, 2 half shrimp rolls, 2 bag of chips, 2 pickles, and 2 sodas.
They served the seafood "Maine-style – chilled on a buttered and toasted New England-style split-top bun with a swipe of mayo, a sprinkle of lemon butter with a dash of spices".
For the interior, the restaurant is designed like a fisherman's shack with wooden tables, catching nets and boxes, as well as fishing accessories – makes you feel you're really in Maine!
It's moderately pricey, but it's so good and they prepare the seafood just the way I like it!
