  1. Wanted a special dinner in little Italy.   Taxi and walked in.  As we saw a place would pull up yelp.   Two were very busy but this had one more table for two available. In the corner.  Great decor. Agree good meals but designed for fast turnover   Chicken parm was good not the best.  Overall great meal with a great partner

  2. Gnocchi craving fixed. My friend had some sort of chicken dish that didn't look that good however.

The service was good especially on a cold NYC day where there wasn't that many people to serve. The chianti I had was a little bit bitter but that's probably because I was eating gnocchi in a tomato sauce that was probably a little sweet.

All in all it was not bad.

  3. This restaurant has great food. My friend ordered the Zuppa di Pesce and if you love fish (clams, shrimp, scallops) then this is the dish for you. I ordered the lobster ravioli, and to me it was only ok (even though this is the dish they are "known" for). The sauce is bland to me, and I had pieces of lobster shell in my ravioli. Now onto the service, you could tell that my server had his work cut out for him being it was the San Genero Festival but, he forgot about us. We sat there at this table for a good twenty minutes (without a drink or water on the table) to flag him down for the check. Also, the owner isn't so nice, she forgot we had sat down to eat and chased me to the bathroom and banged on the door and said "if your not a guest you need to leave". Although her accent reminded me of my grandmothers, I was pretty annoyed. All and all if it wasn't for the Zuppa di Pesce, this place would have made a one star.

  4. During the San Gennaro festival, the entirety of Little Italy smells like a delicious Italian Sunday afternoon feast. My parents and I were looking for a sit-down dinner to get out of the crowd, and Lunella's menu was the most inviting.

(Points go to the restaurant that can grab your attention a) on a super busy evening during a festival, and b) on a street full of Italian restaurants.)

We chose to sit inside, and within minutes we were seated at a small table in the center of the busy room and sipping on wine. I (predictably) ordered Veal Marsala. Now, there's something about a perfectly cooked, perfectly prepared dish of Veal Marsala that leaves you satisfied without feeling full, and content without feeling heavy. This, my dear Yelpers, is that dish. The veal was tender, not chewy. The sauce was perfectly seasoned. The mushrooms were not soggy. The vegetables were a perfect compliment to the plate. And bless the man who first thought to squeeze a grape into a glass, because my wine was amazing. Drop mic, walk away. THAT'S how good my meal was.

My parents were equally pleased with their dishes. Our service was good – perhaps the blond waiter everyone is complaining about wasn't working that day. Skipping dessert in lieu of street cannolis and gelato, we paid the check, reluctantly left our Italian reverie, and stepped back into the madness that is San Gennaro.

    Bellissimo, Lunella. Bellissimo.

  5. Pleasant. Touristy. Expensive. Good Italian.

I ordered eggplant rollatini from the lunch menu for $13.  My daughter ordered the zuppe di peschi from the dinner menu for $38.  Both were well prepared and satisfying.
