  1. Want some cheap egg tarts? Then this is the place to go! This bakery is a fairly small shop tucked in one of the streets in Chinatown that offer plenty of wonderful goods. The egg tarts were each a decent-size (well, much bigger than back home) so 90 cents each seemed like a bargain. The filling was soft and not overly sweet while the crust complemented it with the right flakiness. Enough said, come check out this place!

  2. Egg tart was only okay. Have definitely had better in California but it's not bad. Wish the crust was a little more flaky and the custard part more creamy. Hard to explain but the custard was more solid than creamy/silky than I'm used to.

Large selection of Chinese pastries though! And I haven't tried too many bakeries around Chinatown. Check it out and try some of the other options they have

  3. Tiny, authentic bakery. It's a cramped store, but everything is super cheap so it's totally worth it. I came here and got fresh out of the oven moon cakes for the moon festival, made me feel like I was back in Asia.

  4. Sesame balls in POINT. Fresh, deliciously chewy, and satisfying for a 90 cent treat. Do yourself a favor and get at least 3. One for now, the road and later. You're welcome.

  5. Eric A.'s review got me interested in a stop by here and lo and behold, I realized when I entered that Lung Moon Bakery was one of the faves of my family when we were all growing up. It warmed my heart to see that the American Dream still lives on in this small family owned bakery, where we used to get our moon cakes(now mom likes the ones imported from Hong Kong), these colorful agar cakes with "marshmallow" on top(which I don't see anymore), Portuguese sponge cakes and of course, the egg tarts. They taste like flan in a flaky crust, unlike the pie crusts in other bakeries, and aren't overly sweet but have a strong taste of egg. We never ate anything stale growing up. One of my parents was always in Chinatown so we always had Lung Moon's tarts fresh, many times even warm. But I tried Eric A.'s recommendation and bought two and refrigerated one for the day after and it was lovely.  One of my dearest friends, departed now, used to come here for the hopia cakes to bring back to Guyana, so impressed with them she was. The place is clean and well lit,  and inventory turns so the breads and pastries aren't stale. The old time staff  is nice. And being a Chinese bakery, the goods are cheap so you can trade a hefty bag for only a slightly lighter wallet.  A gem in Chinatown.

  6. Last time we visited NYC, we stopped by this Chinatown bakery and we were very happy with our visit.   I got a few of the egg custards, which are very traditional and they were a bit warm, like they are supposed to be.    Besides these delicacies, they had many types of cakes, buns, pastries, etc.

I got the curry beef pasty and a lemon cake, both were excellent.    The curry beef filling was spicy and warm without being too much.   They are kept in a warming case, so they are always at the perfect serving temperature.     The prices are reasonably cheap and they staff is prompt and helpful.   I don't think they speak too much English, so they might be a bit shy with customers that only speak English.

  7. An excellent bakery. The staff is the usual gamut from surely to nice old woman behind the counter. Pick your day. The bakery makes wonderful pastries and mooncakes (seasonal). I really like the mini mooncakes as it is just bite size. The prices are cheap here and the smell is always makes your stomach buy more than intended. It has been the go to place recently for my bake good needs.

  8. You can't call yourself a NY foodie unless you've frequented a Chinese bakery. And since all the finger food is soo damn cheap, there's just no excuse for you not to go!!

It is definitely all about those egg custard tarts. They are light, just slightly sweet, and surrounded by layers of flaky crust. A childhood favorite of mine, my mom would literally buy them buy the dozen every weekend. They taste great when they're warm and just freshly baked right out of the oven, but trust me on this if you refrigerate them for like a day (don't put them up in the freezer though! Just refrigerate them on the bottom) the custard tastes even better cold!

You can also get other bakery items like buns stuffed with sweet bean paste, and also milk tea and coffee. However, since this is Chinatown it often does get crowded here, so if you can't grab a seat just take it all to go 🙂
