Luzzo’s BK
“But the Luzzo's BK pizza, with mozz, speck prosciutto, fresh ricotta, and truffle pate is INSANEEEEE!!!!”
“The dough is incredible — nicely charred by the brick oven but still somehow moist and very light, almost flaky.”
“Great neighborhood pizza option without the wait that you would see in front of Grimaldi's or Lucali's. The pastas are good as well.”

Try the pizza at Luzzo's BK if you're in the hood; you won't be sorry! It's pretty spectacular! I'm a sausage and ricotta cheese guy, so I typically go for pizzas with both of those ingredients. On my last visit, I was in the mood some hearty Italian sausage, so I got the Luzzo's BK, which features a tomato base, both mozarella and ricotta, truffle paté and speck (an Italian cured ham)… but, I had the chef add Italian sausage to the pizza. OMG! What a treat. My mouth is watering just thinking back to that amazing pizza.
I've also tried both appetizers and pastas at Luzzo's, and all are on point. Most recently, I tried the salami & cheese plate (small size) appetizer, which was actually pretty big for a small size. [Note I was super pleased by this because I'm a big eater.] This appetizer came with a variety of cured Italian meats and both hard and soft Italian cheeses–all yummy! On this same visit, we also tried the Pappardelle Rustich pasta, which featured a light white wine sauce with artichokes and pancetta. The pancetta was melt-in-your-mouth good as was the freshly made pappardelle past! I highly recommend this dish if you're hankering for pasta.
As for the interior of Luzo's BK, it is kinda small-sh. However, this just makes the restaurant more intimate… and a great place to take a date for date night!
It took me a number of years in the neighborhood to finally make it out to Luzzo's, I think it had mostly to do with their prices and the fact that I'm actually closer to Lucali's. I'm glad I finally make it out because Luzzo's makes fantastic pizza (I'm sure their pasta is good too). Their wood burning brick oven is in full view unless you're sitting in their back patio, the ambience is nice and a good date night place. My fiance and I split a couple of their personal sized (12") pizzas. Prices for the 12" pizzas are shockingly high at mostly $18-21. $7 for a bottle of Peroni (the least expensive of the few beer options) was no bargain either.
We split a sausage and their signature option which comes with "tomato sauce, mozzarella, speck, fresh ricotta, truffle paté". Both pizzas had the ideal light and chew to the dough with the proper charring and delicate crust to it. There was no truffles or pate visable on the second pizza but there was a definite truffle oil flavor, there was a bit of brown speckling to the pizza, not sure if this was some sort of pate dust. Regardless the spec and ricotta was excellent. The sauce wasn't as bright and fresh as I like but it wasn't a distraction. Overall we were both very pleased with the pizzas.
This is good pizza.
And in almost any other city, this would be the best in town. But in New York, it's maybe the third best on its street.
I like that the margarita isn't overly greasy, mostly due to the large sauce-to-cheese ratio, but a bit more basil would be welcomed. The crust is of the charred variety, which happens to be my jam. But they're not coming close to touching Lucali's dough perfection.
Service is super friendly, but it's just not enough to bring me back.
Cozy spot to grab a high-quality pizza. We ordered the Luzzo's BK. It was good – although I think the truffle made it oily so I felt like I had oil all over my face/hands. We also ordered a side of broccoli rabe, which I just added to my Luzzo BK – yum! Plus, we finished the evening with tiramisu – definite yum!
This was a surprisingly fantastic Pizza place. It's coal oven pizza with real authentic Napolese style.
We came and had the Saturday Brunch menu and tried the Pizza Uova E Tartufo. It has Mozzarella, Eggs Sunny-Side Up and Black Truffle Pate. Mmm it hit the spot after coming out of a long move. Everything was fresh made to order.
We also tired the Carbonara which was Spaghetti with Pancetta, Eggs, Pecorino and Fresh Black Pepper. I love the texture of a properly made pasta dish and this was pretty well up there with any I've had.
Will have to come back.
Luzzo, you astound me.
The carbonara was rich, filling, al dente, creamy (from the cracked egg). I could have had this all for myself.
I bet they make a killer cacio de pepe. (I will have to try and let you know).
The pizza had a light crispy Rome-pizza-like crust. The toppings of cheese and truffle pate were delightful.
And we suspect we saw Ebon Moss-Bachrach chilling with the owner and Ebon's two girls.
Everyone was watching the football game on the tube.
Good times.
My friend and I were looking for some pizza on a Monday night, and when Fornino in Brooklyn Bridge Park happened to be closed, we walked up Atlantic Avenue to Luzzo's BK.
It was a gorgeous, warm pre-summer night around 6:30pm, and though the restaurant was empty when we walked in, we were excited by the menu and the table in the open front window. It seems we started something, because about ten other groups of people walked in during our meal.
There were some issues with the restaurant's refrigerator that night, so the only items available were the pastas and pizzas, which was fine with us. We started with some cocktails and enjoyed the people watching on Atlantic while eating. I loved the Mushroom Ravioli ($18) in a light cream sauce. And my friend really liked the Margharita pizza ($16).
This will become a new neighborhood standby in my book!
Yeah, Brooklyn has the best pizza. You already know this. You probably know the "named" locations too. You can probably get into them if you know someone or wait a few hours.
Thankfully you can experience amazing pizza and overall Italian fare, in a great and friendly environment without that type of hassle. Enter Luzzos BK.
There is a dimly lit dining room in the front and a small 'hidden' open air, but covered from the rain, backyard. We always go out back with the family and the staff is so friendly and super attentive. It doesn't hurt that they give you some yummy breadsticks (think Cosi-like) while you're waiting for your meal. It certainly is a hit with the kids!
The speciality cocktails are excellent and a decent size – serious skills at the bar! I love tequila so the fast break is a lightly spicy treat (served up).
You're in for a treat, though not inexpensive, certainly a note worthy and consistent meal! The staff and the pizza will keep us coming back for more.
