Lz Sushi
“In the food wasteland that is the area around Penn Station, Yelp directed me to a sushi place that is unpretentious, affordable, and delicious.”
“Most people seem to be taking out, but they have seven or eight stools and a counter where you can eat in, which is what I did.”
“The storefront is tiny, so best for takeout but there are a few seats if you want to eat it there.”

5 stars for amazing customer service. There was some miscommunication and they handled it so well and give me a free roll. I have lots of food allergies right now so this review is just around great customer service (I ordered for a friend.)
Barf. I got a to-go order of an 8pc sushi set sitting in the fridge and I probably shouldn't have. The fish tasted like frostbite and the rice that lacked the characteristic vinegar taste of sushi rice was beginning to get ice crystals too. At least the pieces of fish were generously cut but were shaped suspiciously geometrically like it came out of a Popin' Cookin' sushi set.
Maguro on 28th and 3rd, forever and always!
Went to LZ Sushi today for a quick bite. It's a very small restaurant with a counter and a few stools to sit at while you wait for your food. You could eat at these counters if you want – but this place is definitely more of a take out service. They have pre-made sushi entree's to go, including seaweed salads, edamame, and noodle side dishes – but you can also order at the counter and have the sushi fresh made for you.
I ordered the Lunch Maki Combo Special. This came with 4 rolls (4 pieces each) Spicy Tuna Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, California Roll, and an Eel Roll. There is an option to get brown rice instead of white in your rolls which I liked very much. (even with the .50 upcharge per roll) My lunch order also came with a large container of Miso Soup. The soup was mostly broth with a few pieces of tofu and seaweed – so I ended up not eating it anyway.
Overall the sushi wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. Just a small quiet, friendly establishment where you can pick up fresh made sushi and walk back to your office or a local park to eat your meal.
As a lunch spot near the office, it's some of the most generous and good quality sushi when you're only paying $12-13 for a lunch combo that includes a healthy bowl of miso soup.
I like to eat in here if I have the time and one of the few stools is open, but generally it's an in-and out type of place. They have a lot of pre-made boxes to go in the fridge, but they're generally really fast so you'd have to be crazy to not just wait a few minutes for freshly made sushi.
Delicious take away sushi at an affordable price. Pulled up Lz Sushi and had dinner by myself one night. Most of the restaurants in the area were overpriced and I needed to spend wisely while traveling on company business. Settled on this place since it was only a block away from the Doubletree.
They have a pretty straightforward menu with very reasonable prices. I had the sushi combination D which included miso soup. There were like 20 pieces! There were spicy tuna, salmon, and california rolls. I also grabbed a bottle of Oicha green tea and a plate of edamame. All that for under $20… Not sure where else can beat that amount of food.
There's limited counter space if you decide to dine in. They have complimentary hot tea.
competitively priced gyudon with solid flavor and nice service
10 dollar minimum for credit cards which can be annoying as the food is quite below 10 bucks for one thing.
Compare to Canaan sushi
Bad sushi and tastes like Frozen dumplings.
For a location so close to Penn Station with at least 3 competing sushi restaurants less than a block away, you'd expect them to at least try to compete.
I came here for lunch and the sushi boxes are in a cold unit in a small restaurant. The menu is taped to the wall and printed on pieces of paper. Despite how bad it looked, I still thought to give it a try.
I bought the Naruto box for $8.95 thinking it was part of the lunch special. The box came with 8 pieces of sushi, some pickled ginger and wasabi as well as soy sauce packets. Little did I know the lunch special was you had to buy 2 BOXES in order to get a free miso soup. So they are telling me I need to buy almost $18.00 to get a lousy free miso soup???
I still didn't walk out, I actually decided to but their chicken dumplings for. $4.50 as a little snack. It came with 8 dumplings and some sauce and little instructions to hear them up for 40 seconds in the microwave.
I went back to my office to eat since LZ has only 5 stools along the wall and it seemed a little sad to eat there.
Considering what I paid, I figured this had to be awesome Sushi. WRONG!
The sushi was old and a bit rubbery. The pickled ginger clearly came out of a can. But the worst was the dumplings. I heated them to specification but they rated like something that had been frozen previously and with freezer burn. It had a chalk like quality to it.
Never again! I'm sticking to Caanan around the corner they does 2 rolls bento box for lunch special with miso soup for $9.00 and their sushi was fresh.
Price, tastiness, quickness, and friendliness make this a winner in my book!
I only had 10 minutes to eat before catching a train at Penn Station, so sushi seemed like a good bet. Yelp led me here and I'm happy they did!
I had a rainbow roll that was out in just a few minutes. Great tasting rice and pretty decent fish. My lunch cost a little more than $10 which I though was a good deal for the roll.
