We had the super lunch special today. For $7.95 you can have soup or salad or an appetizer and an entree. I had the basil stir fry with chicken and my SO had green curry with chicken. Both were delish and well spiced. He kept making funny noises and drinking lots of ice water, but he came close to licking the dish clean. I think he liked it.
We are going back later this week or next. The crispy duck is calling me and the whole crispy red snapper is beckoning his presence.
They have a full bar.
Add to this the most pleasant wait staff and we have a winner.
Oh, and happy hour(s) are from 5:30 until 8:00 daily.
Mother's Day Lunch with the guest of honor and ultimate connoisseur and M Thai rocked it with a Marvelous meal.
Amazing, meaty, flavorful and perfectly crisped Hot Mountain Chicken Wings to start.
Green Papaya salad was fresh, bursting with flavor and a nice contrast to the wings.
Tom Yum Soup w ample shrimp was hot and tasty.
Spicy flat Noodles stir fried with eggs and mixed veggies had this beautiful, smoked flavor.
My Mixed Broiled Seafood Plate with Calamari, Scallops, Shrimp, Fish and Veggies sautéed
In white wine, basil and chili + a bowl of white rice was damnnnnn good!
Fantastic, very attentive service with our plates and napkins being replaced with each course, water filled frequently, food brought out hot from the kitchen. Our waiter opened the front door for us upon entry and exit. Very nice touch and Mom was very pleased!
6 fun nurses ( all Mom's) from the Philippines sat down next to us and we had a ball. They ordered a couple of whole cooked fishes and wanted us to try some.
Loads of leftovers. Appetizers were pretty filling.
Great atmosphere, lovely food, really superior service and could not believe the prices for this quality of food and service.
Free Sunday parking on 8th Ave that is one way northbound or 22nd street eastbound a block and a half up.
Definitely be back! Awesome!
Consistently great pad Thai. Other things hit and miss (luckily the quality pad Thai makes up for everything else).
– waiters generally helpful but every single time I ask for Thai iced tea no ice, they tell me sure then bring it full of ice. ?? Service is pretty good otherwise.
– some of the tables and menus are a bit sticky…… One time the table was a little smelly too.
– some of the dishes are really sweet. The Tom Yum soup tastes almost like a sauce, it's so strongly sweet/sour. I feel dizzy by the time I get to the bottom of the bowl. Similarly with the papaya salad, which could also stand to be julienned a little thinner.
– Pad Thai is really tasty. The key is not making it too dry – aka has to be greasy and flavorful enough to taste good. Else I feel like I'm just eating a clump of starch.
Equally important, it can't be too sweet – a lot of places make pad Thai so sweet it's inedible. I know it's still Americanized (the pad Thai I had when traveling to Thailand was lighter and less sweet still), but this just tastes good, period.
On the downside, writing this review made me hungry all over again. 🙁
The ambiance was nice; funky yet chic! The prices were reasonable but, I only wanted something light! I ordered chicken pad-thai; I had not had the sweet-savory pan Asian flavor in a long time. I was not pleased the pad thai was too sweet, I tried to squeeze lemon to flavor but that didn't help. I switched my order to the spicy noodle w/ chicken & that was much more pleasing to my palate. So if you're in the neighborhood and want quick service for a reasonable price and a good meal check them out!
A decent Thai place that delivers on Seamless. I had the appetizer sampler (came with chicken skewers, fried shumai, and papaya salad), the fried rice, and the spicy noodles (same as drunken noodles anywhere else or a spicier pad see ew). The chicken skewers were okay only after you add sauce (they're flavorless otherwise). I've never had fried shumai but that was okay, too. The papaya salad was a good balancer against all the heaviness of everything else. The fried rice was way too salty to eat alone (I ended up getting some plain chicken breast to toss in to balance it out) and the noodles were fine but heavy.
3.25 Stars
Got take-out here. The food is very much Americanized Thai. Palatable, decent flavors, though with so many restaurants in NYC, it doesn't stand out.
The pad thai was thick, chewy noodles with big bites of beef, soybean sprouts, egg, and a bit of green onion. It was layered on a bed of iceberg lettuce leaves (the lettuce didn't really fit with the noodles.) The dish was on the more heavily sauced side.
The papaya salad was strands of green papaya, a little cherry tomato, lots of peanuts, a little green bean, more iceberg lettuce on the bottom with some romaine leaves. It was rather underwhelming, very mild, a tiny bit of sweet, the faintest hint of heat, and a bit watery.
The tamarind chicken wings were really like sweet and sour wings. Fried chicken wings coated with a thick, syrupy sauce. Very Americanized but tasty.
Overall, come here for convenient Americanized Thai food but don't go out of your way.
Pretty good spot with decent lunch specials even though they recently raised the prices. I love the thai iced tea drink there. The best appetizers are the chicken dumplings and coconut shrimp. And the rice dishes and most noodle dishes (though I didn't like the pad thai) are quite good.
We had a delivery from there. It was very satisfying. It is not the best thai food I've had, but still good!
