Macbar

“The menu is very similar to S'MAC: they have the classics as well as more avant-garde creations (Mac Lobsta anyone?).”

“Several of my co-workers have brought their huge macaroni shaped containers to the office and I've always wanted to try Macbar.”

“If I had to make a list of the top 50 foods I've ever ate (and I've ate a lot of food), Macbar's mac quack would certainly make the list.”

  1. I first tried MacBar quite some time ago, but I went IN with their Lobster Mac n' Cheese and for a non-fancy, fast food type Mac place – it was surprisingly fantastic! My former coworker went with their Mayan Chipotle and my former boss went with the Lobster Mac as well.

My pasta was well cooked, the sauce could have definitely been creamier, but they were generous with the lobster and after I added some hot sauce, it was all good!

Overall portion sizes here could use some work given the prices, but it was a work lunch and thus, complimentary. Huzzah!

Would I come back here again? If I'm in the neighborhood, in a pinch and not craving my favorite pizza spot, then sure! Also, just a heads up that this place is pretty tiny if you're hoping to have nice casual sit-down mac and cheese experience.

You're much better off grabbing your food and eating it elsewhere. Also be mindful of coming here around lunch time as it does get very crowded and your food make take some time to come out.

  2. I have to admit, I enjoyed the Mac and cheese. I had the margarita Mac and it was very cheesy, well seasoned and delicious. The only issues are the wait time, which when I ordered I was told it would be 20 minutes and I ended up waiting for about 45 minutes in a pretty small waiting area, which was the second issue. I saw a few people walk out after ordering because it was taking too long and they had an appointment. Other than that, I'd probably do takeout from here again, it's not dine in friendly though.

  3. Deliciousness!  I popped in on my lunch break somewhere past noon on a Sunday afternoon after a co-worker suggested this place down a street that I don't regularly traverse.  I thought, anybody known for making one thing must do a good enough at it, to make my lunch break worthwhile.  This is a tiny spot, and the line was backed to the door, but I had walked the extra block or 2 so I waited it out.  The cashier informed me that it would be up to 25 minutes for my order to be fulfilled.  I sighed and went ahead anyway, grabbing a cinnamon cookie at the register to quell my hunger as I waited sharing a table (if you can call the tiny tabletop that) with a pleasant [enough] stranger and reading my book (that I was certainly glad to have brought).  My order, the Mac Quack which is the Duck Confit and macaroni & cheese concoction was ready in closer to 18 minutes.  IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!  I had the small size which I worried would not be enough for me, but it was a good portion for lunch and a perfect price as well.  I will definitely add this place to my rotation of lunchtime choices in the area.  I'll be sure to bring my own drink next time or pick up a bag of chips or something beforehand for a more filling lunch, but like I said, it's a nice size but I'm rather greedy at times.

  4. Everyone loves mac and cheese right? It's a no brainer. Offered are a few different selections and cheeses. The menu is pretty self explanatory and simple as is the set up of the place. The wall is lined with a cushioned bench with round tables in front of them and a few scattered stools. It's definitely a place to go for a quick bite, not a meal. Sometimes it's a little crowded during summer/fall nights. I ordered a medium lobster mac, a must try! There was a nice amount of lobster baked perfectly inside, chunky pieces too.

  5. I started working nearby this location and a co worker introduced a group and I to Macbar on our orientation day. Mac and Cheese in walking distance? Yes please. Mac and Cheese to me is the ultimate comfort food and this place is AMAZING. I tried the Mac Lobster twice, once then and another time I took it home for dinner. I think I've fell in love with a new guilty pleasure spot…Also, the way they package it is super cute.

  6. There is lots of hype about the Macbar on one or more of the food shows on TV.  Unfortunately this place does not live up to all the hype. We tried to go to the macbar and when we showed up, we learned earned there is room for about for maybe seven people total to sit.  The staff in this tiny place isn't particularly endearing, nor did I get to feel that they were excited for us to be there.

So know before you go, that you may be taking the food out or standing outside eating.  The third alternative, which we chose, was to eat at the restaurant next door, "The delicatessan" which serves the same mac and cheese dishes, and is apparently the bigger more spascious parent of the MacBar.

We tried several of the mac and cheese and ate them at the restaurant next door and all the dishes were good. I will admit some of them were spectacular, but the others were good, that's it.

If you are in this neighborhood and want to pick up some mac and cheese, the Mac bar is likely a good place to do it. If you want to sit down and eat and relax while being served at a table, this is not your best choice.

  7. Came with my bf last night and it was empty when we got there. No lines = score!!! We ordered the Mac Stroganoff as well as the Mayan Chipotle, both in large sizes. Was initially disappointed when we didn't get the cute macaroni containers everyone was talking about. But we were served our food nice and hot and it smelled amazing. I couldn't stop licking my lips and after tasting a few bites, it definitely didn't disappoint. The Mac and cheese was gooey deliciousness! It was covered in a thick layer of cheese on top which later, my bf and I found to be too overwhelming especially in the Stroganoff. After eating about half our food, it became kind of too cheesy to eat but was still overall pretty good.

Also, I liked how the yellow walls and the comfortable seats with pillows made this place feel instantly cozy. Definitely a good Macbar vibe but I think more seatings would be better. Would also appreciate a larger drink selection. Will come back to try the other Mac and cheese options like the Lobster Mac which sounds BOMB.

  8. Being a huge mac&cheese fan, this place did not meet my standards. I tried the four cheese mac&cheese and that was pretty bland. They should have used at least one cheese with a stronger flavor. I also tried the Mac lobsta, which was nothing special. We waited 15 mins for our food, which doesn't sound long but was long for a fast food place. The plus side is that they have cute macaroni shaped containers for to-go orders. It won't redeem them though.
