Have been here a few times and it has been consistently delicious tacos. Mexican style are my fave and I am always in search of a great taco. Thus far, this is the best place within driving distance of M'town.
I could drink their salsa it is soooo good. Perfect flavor and consistency.
Service is very friendly.
The food here is amazing and has a home cooked authentic feel. We ordered takeout one night with just minutes before they were closing and they still accommodated us which was nice. We got the chicken fajitas, chicken burrito, and nachitos with chicken. We thought this would be a good amount of food for 2 people. Well, we barely ate half of it and ended up eating the leftovers for lunch the next day. Soooo much foood. Everything was so delicious, especially the nachitos.
Love this authentic local spot, and I will be frequenting it often!
I've only been in this restaurant between 7pm-10pm and it's always nearly empty, maybe I just miss the dinner rush. I agree that it's a little unsettling to see a place like this always empty, but I'll keep going back from time to time because I enjoy the food. We usually walk in and order take-out, which can take a little time as we usually end up waiting 15-20 minutes, however I don't mind so much because I know all of my food is being cooked fresh to order.
Our go-to order is the taco plates, which come with 4 decent sized tacos (we switch it up between steak, beef, chicken) and they give plenty of rice, cilantro, and a few lime wedges to squeeze. Their homemade chips are very tasty, not dripping with grease either, which I really appreciate. My only request is that they would give a little more salsa with to-go orders, but that's not a big deal.
The staff is always friendly, the restaurant is clean, the decor is nice, and the food is delicious. I will keep coming back here, hopefully in the near future for a nice sit-down meal.
*4.5 Stars*
This place is real deal Mexican.
Beginning with the staff, all the way to the food to the atmosphere (futbol on the tv's).
Staff seems to be all family. Warm and welcoming.
Food was superb. We started with their warm, complimentary chips w/salsa. Fresh and delicious!
I ordered the Wet Burrito (rice, beans, cheese, with your choice of chicken, steak or pulled pork covered with our red sauce, melted cheese, & Mexican sour cream). Now I never had Mexican from Mexico but what I was told this is as close as you will get it…and I am sure they are right!
The wife ordered the Tacos a La Mex (four soft corn tortillas served with onion, cilantro & your choice of meat with a side of rice & cactus). Everything was great except for the cactus. Wasn't too keen on it. No fault of theirs…not my thing.
Prices are so freaking reasonable! Entire meal was less than $30 including tip. Bring your own if you want to have some booze. Place isn't huge and does get busy on the weekends.
ENJOY!
One of my long-time Yelp friends had an ROTD for Maddy's and I knew then that I had to give them a try.
So Maddy's is across town for me which means it's a local place and I always love supporting our locals! I just hope this place keeps going strong…the whole time we were there only one other couple came in to eat-though there DID seem to be deliveries and quite a few take-out orders. But back to our meal –
Wifey and I decided that we were going out on a Sunday night without the kids…they could fend for themselves at home because I didn't want to watch my daughter eat another plate of chicken fingers and fries (which, by the way you can get at Maddy's). We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere and the guy working would be right with us. Got our menus and the guy was right back with chips and salsa…which were great – nice fresh, homemade chips and two kinds of salsa – salsa verde and a red Salsa…very nice and fresh but could use a little spiciness.
We decided on an appetizer of Choriquezo, which is sliced chorizo sausage in a melted cheese sauce and three tortillas. Jeez – sausage…cheese…and tortillas…Yeah, THAT's not something I'm gonna love! it was delicious…even better with a small dollop of the salsa with every bite.
For our entrees my wife ordered a Chicken and Steak Combo Fajitas and I ordered the Wet Burrito with chicken. How do I explain the size of my burrito???? How about this…it was the size of a small child, LOL. Seriously, it is gigantic. Stuffed with rice, beans, chicken, and I have NEVER seen this in a burrito like this – fresh guacamole. Now, I'm not a huge Guac fan, but this stuff is simply amazing – I'm sold!!! My wife's fajitas could have fed a basketball team…chicken, steak, grilled onions, red and green peppers, and cheese and on another plate – more cheese, freshly diced tomatoes, freshly made guacamole, pinto beans, and a pile of rice. The meats were done perfectly…and here's what I REALLY liked – usually when you get fajitas, the meats are ok and you jazz them up with toppings, but here – you could have just eaten the meat and loved every bite – very nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly
The portions are huge…so don't let any pricing here fool you. Even if I hadn't had half an appetizer I don't think I could have eaten my whole burrito and I got two full meals out of it. Wifey's fajitas – she will get three meals out of it (I'd get two). The place is BYOB, which I love, and the prices aren't bad at all. I think I've found a new, local Mexican place where I'm excited about returning with friends!!
First let me begin by saying I went here as an alternative to Chipotle the other day because my girlfriend said the burritos were just like Chipotle's. She was definitely wrong! They were SOOOO MUCH BETTER!!! Literally better than anything Chipotle, or Moes, or Qdoba could offer. The Chicken burrito I ordered came PACKED with rice, beans, chicken, lots of oozy gooey cheese, and delicious pico de gallo. My girlfriend's burrito was a steak one without pico and that was just as amazing. Let me also mention that these burritos are BIG! SUPER BIG!!! Way bigger than Chipotle's. We also got tortilla chips on the side and a "small" order of Guacamole which was way more than enough on its own to share with the chips.. Overall this place is a hit and this was food that was ordered for takeout, may be even better if served right at the table! 4 stars and not five for no Monday delivery.
This place is a gem masked as a rock. Based on the rating and the price point noted on Yelp, I thought for sure I was in the wrong place when I pulled up. I guess you could say that this place has the appearance (inside and out) of a 'hole in the wall'. It's festive, sure, but there are no bells and whistles. There was a handwritten sign on the door to the bathroom (accessed from just off of the dining room and visible while dining) advising that bathroom priviliges will be revoked for anyone who puts paper in the toilet.
Alright… so now you have an idea of what you are walking into.
The menu, while not fancy looking, was put together quite well. It was organized well and explained everything I wanted to know. This stood out to me since I'm one of those annoying types of people who will ask a hundred questions about everything on the menu and then orders a grilled cheese.
The pricing also seemed pretty good. Most items were a couple dollars cheaper than what I would have expected to see them priced at.
I ordered the Tilapia a la Plancha (grilled fish). It was amazing! Not only was the plate of food gorgeous but it tasted great and everything was so high quality and perfect. I could easily see paying 2x what they were asking and not even batting an eye… if the setting were more high end. For this reason, I think that this place is a steal for your money.
I interacted with 3 different people working there (I'm pretty sure it's a family) and they were all super nice and accommodating.
This place will definitely be in my rotation for the next time I pass through.
Have been to Maddy's three times, twice dine in & once for takeout. Dine in was at quiet times and the service was reasonably fast. Take out was super fast!
The food is excellent – favourite is the pulled pork wet burritos and they are huge. One $13 burrito will easily feed two, but I guess that is appetite dependent 🙂 The Mexican tacos are also delicious. Given the quality and portion sizes, I think it's very good value for money.
Good atmosphere although I'm not a fan of soccer playing on TV when I'm out dining at a sit-down restaurant but I get that it's pretty common over here. Street parking only, which can be a little limited at times. All in all, highly recommended!
