Great espresso in midtown. I was pleased to find this spot near my office in a wasteland of Starbucks.
Alex is the best!!! Always serves your coffee w a smile
THE BEST COFFEE SHOP IN MANHATTAN! I may be biased because I work a few doors down. Madman sets the standard of what ALL customer service experiences should look and feel like. Madman is local, hip and unique. I hold tons of meetings here. It's a great midday escape to refresh and get your life together before heading back into the madness that is work.Their menu features a variety of awesome coffee beverages and sweet treats. I am pretty much addicted to their daily iced tea. From peach to mango to ginger peach and more, the daily iced tea is just so official. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't speak about the actual product, BUT our CEO is a coffee connoisseur and he swears by Madman Coffee.
The real deal is the almond croissant. I know, I know — it's JUST a croissant. I am certain that they sprinkle fairy dust on those bad boys. I have never been so in love with a breakfast pastry. I LIVE for the almond croissant!
My experience at Madman Espresso was not good because it was too darn hot inside. The employees were probably at boiling point. It was so hot that you could bake a cake. I don't know how anyone can work in that heat, in the summer of August with very little air circulation. It is unhealthy for everyone and creates a bad experiences.
So now that we've got that out of the way… my cappuccino was not bad. Not the best and maybe a bit bland and needed one more shot, but it's drinkable. Maybe their bad attitude caused it to taste that way… who knows?? I'm going to give them another try however, as when I return for business in NYC, my company usually books me in Midtown district.
Sometimes, the first time is not the best, but I'm hoping the second time around will seal the deal! :p
Until then, be kind to one another and Cheers! ~ :p
My visits to Madman Espresso have been stellar. After stepping inside for the first time, the first thing I noticed was how spacious this place is: this café is a really tall one, with the chalkboard menu really high up the wall. The decor lends a relaxed, homely vibe to this spot: the light brown walls (with the silhouette of a world map on one of them), the chalkboard menu, the long wooden table, the "life is beautiful sign". It's unique that the high chairs against the front window are on an elevated platform.
I ordered hot chocolate during my several visits to this coffee shop, and it's some of the best hot chocolate I've had: rich, flavorful, and of course, foamy on the top. During one morning, I ordered their quiche after one staff worker recommended it, and it was fluffy and delicious without being too overwhelming for my stomach, like dishes with a lot of cheese can be.
The only drawback to this place is that it doesn't have a bathroom, so that's a hindrance to taking my time at this café and staying for awhile. Otherwise, it's a gem in the Penn Station area.
Coffeehouse that's like a hidden gem off the beaten path of the 34th St bussle between 8th & 7th Avenues. Seems like they haven't gotten around to posting a banner or sign to clearly identify where they are on W 35th but its across the street from Juniper and Butterfly Fabrics. Also note that they are open on SUNDAYS from 9-4! unfortunately they haven't had time to update the hours of operations listed on the front door…Its a cozy space , very minimalist. They have some round tables with chairs , a long wooden table with a number of chairs and then a bar with stools along windows on either side of the door. They also have a drink cooler for standard water, juice, milk, etc.
Despite some of the disorganization, this place is stellar. I got a regular iced coffee which was a medium blend with a smooth taste, not so bitter. I also got what I thought the Batista said was coffee flavored but I think was toffee due to a bunch of crumbs of candied toffee bits and the icing had slight mix of coconut flakes. Either way it was super delicious, insanely huge, and not overly sweet. They also sell various baked goods (e.g., donuts, crossiants, cookies, danishes, muffins), quiches, fresh on, gluten free snacks and an array of coffee and tea drinks. Price is average for a NYC boutique coffee shop. My bill was $6 for a small iced coffee and a donut.
Overall, great and convenient location, good customer service, great selection of easts/drinks and good coffee! They also get kudos for playing classic 80s music for two hours 🙂
The coffee was OK, but better than Starbucks, however the service was pleasant but extremely slow. I had to wait 15 minutes just to order my coffee. There was only one person behind the counter and he was extremely slow.
I got the honey-cinnamon latte, a specialty. It was definitely pleasant, better than Starbucks, though nothing exceptional. It might have been that the drink was better when it had just come out, as pickup was a bit chaotic–it was hard to figure out when my drink was ready and which one was mine. The line moved quickly and there was ample seating around large, galley-style tables at 10:45am on a weekday. Wifi was fast and outlets were available.
If you're not paying attention, you might pass the entrance to Madman's and miss out of the aromatic scent of brewing espresso and coffee. The cafe is located between 7th and 8th avenue, on 35th st, but somehow, my friend and I missed the entrance on our first visit.
I ordered the Dirty Chai latte with almond milk. It was delicious. The chai had a good amount of ginger flavor (which I totally love) with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. The espresso is very smooth. I prefer hot drinks over cold drinks because personally, I think hot drinks bring out more of the espresso flavor.
There are several tables and outlets in the cafe. I did notice that there are less people around 12pm, and more people at 1pm who order coffee after lunchtime.
