  1. my go to for a great cup of coffee on the weekend.

slunk in one semi hangover morning after being up for 22 hours and sleeping for 5 hours for a double latte with almond milk, a yummy elixir the ex put  me on to, but i always hated on…until i had it in latte form.

the coffee is stellar, flavorful and earthy and the latte is creamy, thick and potent.

the vibe is the main draw – bob marley playing in the background, high ceilings and a giant circular chandelier, people speaking in all kinds of languages over their morning drip and the nutty smell of espresso caressing over you. i get a good deal of writing done here.

a huge plus is, unlike a lot of great coffee shops, you dont have to hustle for an industrial seat. and in midtown its really really hard to find something that is delicious and has personality, its usually either or and often neither.  mad man espresso is an outlier, an oasis in the sea of garbage chain spots.

  2. Apparently not all madman opens on Sunday but the one closest to me does, hooray! I really need some caffeine to boost me up after my workout so got the skinny iced latte. No sugar just to keep healthy oh yay!

Really liked their seating on the second floor – the balcony type of bench extended a bit outside so you've got a great view.

Too bad they will be closing early on Sunday at 4pm, and they are not opening early enough for me to grab my morning dose…still, I'm a fan of Madman now!

  3. Madman is quite a walk from my office, but I'm glad that I made the trek over.  The cafe is located very close to 9th Ave, pass the Homeward suites hotel and construction area if you're walking towards the West side.

There was only 1 person working at the counter, and 5 customers ahead of me.  The barista was very quick with the orders.

I ordered a chai soy latte, but he made a soy latte by mistake.  I'm glad he did that because the soy latte was very good.  It tasted strong, but not overly bitter, or acidic.  I did not add sugar to my latte.

There were a couple of people on their laptops.  There is only a couple of tables, and upstairs seating.  No restrooms for customers though.

  4. I had to kill time this week between 2 appointments and came here to hang out with some cold brew coffee. I sat here for quite sometime with said coffee and Fabiano working the counter was funny, sweet, friendly and all-around awesome.

No one had a problem with me just sitting there for like 35-40 minutes and I got to listen to a job interview go down next to me. She was interviewing for a Public Relations internship for a local photography company. I hope she got the job because she sounded super smart, confident and passionate about her work, lol.

My coffee was really delicious and definitely good quality stuff. None of that burnt coffee bean after taste synonymous with Starbucks (who's skinny iced caramel macchiatos are still my weakness – although it's rare when I actually get em'). The coffee menu here is brief but clearly carefully curated to only carry quality brews.

The front area also houses some really lovely looking fluffy croissants, bagels and sugary danishes that also look like a perfect accompaniment to a well made latte or espresso.

To the left of the register (by the sugar, milk and cream containers) they also sell some locally baked gluten-free cookies. There was a peanut butter chocolate one that had my name written all over it, but I decided to be a good girl and not inhale the unnecessary calories – lol.

This isn't really a neighborhood that I frequent often, but that might change if it becomes my new work 'hood and if it does then Madman Espresso will help make that shift a pleasant one :).

  5. Very friendly staff and tasty coffee. I had a large cold brew after my flight into NYC and boy did it hit the spot. The coffee is from Cafe Vita which was reminiscent of the coffee back in Seattle. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for above average coffee.

  6. Coffee here is really good. Almond milk is sweetened. Props to being a part of CUPS and opening on a Sunday.

  7. My coffee staple on the weekends that I'm at home – close by and reliable little shop. I haven't been to the main one, but this location is never crowded, always just enough seating for when I need it. Make sure to go around noon or 1 pm if you want an almond croissant – the pastry selection is great and their doughnuts are from Dough. Also, check in on their little device – I prefer this greatly to carrying around a rewards card since you just need to enter your phone number and they'll keep a record of your visits. The service is great, as every person I've talked to at the counter has always been cheerful and friendly.

  8. Little did I know that this location has been here for about 1.5 years. Lucky for me, since I didn't have to deal with the crowds at the 35th St. location. This establishment is small, operated by a single person. On the main floor is a small round table in front, and then a a large wooden picnic table that seats 6-7 people. There is additional seating upstairs that overlooks the main floor, seating an additional dozen people. The upper floor is small, at about 8'x8', but a nice addition to complement the almost cramped main floor. It's not great for large groups or to lounge in, but more of a grab and go coffee joint with a few baked goods.

The Iced Redeye ($4.00) consists of their Cold-Brew Coffee + 2 shots of espresso in a 12 oz. cup. It is served with only several ice cubes which I appreciated, to keep the coffee cold but not a lot that it would dilute the drink in time. The Redeye is strong, yet smooth, neither sour nor bitter. A perfect extraction of flavors that I found myself enjoying so much that I was able to drink it black. If you don't like black coffee, they do have an assortment of milks and sugars including sugar syrup and organic agave syrup. Thumbs up!

If you're looking for a good cup of coffee, hot or cold, definitely check out Madman Espresso.
