  1. ***Update: It's fine that you want to clarify your side of the story. However, as a potential customer, I have the right to voice my opinion as well. I like to also point out that there will be certainly be more critiques and reviews coming from future patrons aside from myself. They may agree or disagree in response to your business. Unfortunately, I find it rather disappointing that you chose to discredit and personally attack my review based on a poor rating. FYI: I've been part of Yelp Elite for 5 years. I've never been on any type of mission to attack small business. In fact, all my reviews have consistently support small business owners.** Please keep in mind that Yelp guideline refrains business owners, as well as reviewers from disclosing personal info. This clearly violates privacy rights if your business chooses to disclose my personal info. I would rather not escalate the situation and report your business for sharing personal info. It also raises a red flag to potential customers to think twice to venture to your bakery.

As my prior review stated, I originally planned on ordering a cake from Mahalo based on the 4-5 star reviews. Instead, a simple inquiry turned into a "dispute". You stated that I have edit my original response. That is far from the truth. Hence, my **Response and Update**. Your response to my last update was re-edit and elaborated in response to my initial post. Frankly, your defense rather speaks volumes about your "honesty and business ethics". It is absolutely appalling as a small business you can not take constructive criticism well to improve your business. The options you offered for $100 were as follows: The "exposed brick wall" is piping with self-attached castle tower/pillars. Other options were buttercream roses/piping or spray paint fondant with the crown which was not stated under $100. I found the options offered to be poor choices and lacking. Those designs were striking similar to Stop & Shop, Costco's, Sam's Club Bakery Dept. I have post an unbiased, cordial and honest review based on my interaction with Mahalo. Not only did you handled the matter unprofessionally but took it as a direct and personal attack when none was directed. In conclusion, aside from myself, I will definitely make sure to let friends/family know to stay away from Mahalo!*** Dropping it to one star. P.S. Attached photo of requested design. Quoted $400 w/ modifications of round cakes done. Also incl. are the designs offered for $100. I saved you the trouble of posting the email thread. Best of luck with your business!

  2. Mahalo is Jammin! And by that I mean their cupcakes ~ Jam packed with secret goodies in each bite!

    In order of my favorites:

    Pineapple Guava
"A moist vanilla cake that is filled with guava jam. It is top with a ring of cream cheese frosting and chunky pineapple jam."
        – This lil cuppy cake is DA BOMB! It's seriously a party in your mouth. This may be thee best cupcake I've EVER had… is that too much? Nope, sounds about right! The vanilla cake is really fresh and moist, almost like they added some milk to it. The guava jam adds a little bit of sweetness but not too much. Cream cheese frosting, is there anything better?!? Topped with a refreshing bit of pineapple jam on top. Man Oh Man. I've never went back the next day for a cupcake before. And when I did, they were out! *SOB* Call ahead to make sure they have it!

    Mango Mango
"Mango cupcake infused with mango puree, topped with mango cream cheese frosting."
        – MANGO! Who doesn't love mango? This is just a happy mango party and you are a VIP guest. The mango puree really adds a great consistency to the cake and Mango cream cheese frosting, holy cow.

    Hibiscus
"A hibiscus and cardamom cupcake infused with a hibiscus and rose milk syrup and topped with a hibiscus flavored whipped cream."
        – When I think Hibiscus, I think Hawaii. Hibiscus Icy's, cocktails, flowers in girl's hair. Its a really nice light flavor and the rose syrup really brings out it's flavor. Unique and Memorable.

    Milk Lovers
"A vanilla cake, infused with a concoction of milks with our signature twist of cardamom spice, and topped with whipped cream."
        – This reminded me a lot of Indian Chai. Very similar to the Hibiscus cupcake but lighter. It was a lot like a Tres Leches cake as well. Delicious.

    Banana Hazelnut
"A banana cupcake topped with hazelnut butter cream frosting."
        – In any other bakery, this would be a hit – the Banana bread was truly scrumptious! And the hazelnut, yum! But paired against the previous powerhouses, I would choose my Pineapple Guava any day!

Cakes? Any cupcake can be made into a cake- really? YES!
We ordered a 5" Smash Cake, Vanilla with Cream Cheese Frosting. I asked for red rosettes but they kindly explained that my baby would be pink for the rest of the day hahaha.
After Zoe "smashed" the cake, right before she sat on the cake I reached in and grabbed a fistful. My husband asked if it was for Zoe to eat and I said no, I had to try the cake myself! OMG it was SO GOOD!!! My heart sunk to see such a delicious cake smushed to itty bitty pieces, never to be consumed in a happy tummy. But knowing that the vanilla was crazy delicious, I still can't bring myself to order a vanilla cupcake, I need to go down my list of fav's first! Maybe Vanilla can come after Milk lovers…

I have to go back for the Hawaiian Doughnuts (malasadas), you have to order them ahead of time!

Ooh the Max and Mina Ice Creams, taste – homemade (duh) but they have 3 special hawaiian flavors! POG (passion fruit, orange, and guava) sorbet is refreshing and the Pineapple Coconut, Mmm Mmm Mmm! I still have yet to try the 3rd.

I've recommended Mahalo to everyone I know. I even went back the next day to buy a bunch for friends and I plan on going back again tomorrow to spread the love to even more friends. Everyone should have a Mahalo cupcake sometime in their life, it's just a necessity.

    I Love You Mahalo!!!

    * PS: Sunita is such a sweetie!

  3. I'm so glad I tried this place!

Bought a dozen cupcakes for a family gathering: toasted coconut, cookies & cream, and red velvet.

Honestly, it is all very good! (And I've had my share of cupcakes haha)

I will comeback and try mango mango, and banana chocolate (bc the free sample was so good).

  4. The last time I was impressed by a cupcake was NEVER.  But after trying Mahalo, oh man.. can't settle for any other.  Soo moist and milky.  I recommend the hibiscus, milk lovers and pineapple guava.  These won't disappoint.

The shop also has Max & Minas ice cream but very limited selections here.  I would say go to the actual Max & Minas in Flushing for the ice cream experience.

  5. Orgasmic. Yes, I said it. Because, I'm not exaggerating. Taking a bite of the cookies n' cream/Oreo icing cupcake damn near had me needing to lay down and fan myself. And I have witnesses to prove it!

Someone brought a box of Mahalo cupcakes to a potluck BBQ we were having by the Brooklyn Waterfront. Quite honestly at first they just looked like some slightly fancier grocery store bought cupcakes given the generic plastic container with no design whatsoever.

Despite being super full from our BBQ meal and that these cupcakes had been sitting out up until then, I was in for quite the surprise when I finally made room for dessert and decided to go in on these cupcakes. My interest was piqued by the others in my group complimenting the raspberry filled chocolate one, which I missed out on. What was left was red velvet, Oreo, and pineapple guava. Fruit and citrus lover that I am, I went for that one first. By the first bite, I could tell these were not grocery store cupcakes. The guava one was good, but didn't quite hit the spot for me, probably because of the pineapple flavoring. Since I'm skeptical of how folks do their red velvet and hate to be disappointed by that one, I decided to try to the unassuming Oreo one.

Holy high heavens, the minute I tasted the creamy, buttery icing, I was done for. To be honest, the chocolate cake part of it was unimpressive, and I didn't care to finish it. But that hardly matters since the top half of the cake is what dreams are made of and gets me excited (yes, excited) just thinking about the taste on my tongue.

I'm going to stop my review here for fear of further impropriety. But my parting postscript is that the red velvet one, while not mind blowing, does meet the standard of my high expectations too. Which all goes to show that, regardless of how much these cupcakes might cost, they're worth it. (Lady sweet tooth-ers especially 😉

  6. After tasting a few samples of their mini cupcakes from a Yelp event, I knew I had to visit their physical storefront to try their full cupcakes.

Cupcakes($2.50 each) have the right amount of sweetness and their icing is not too heavy.  Icing is on the lighter but creamier side.

Got the mango pineapple, pineapple coconut, both tasted delicious.  Saw some hibiscus cupcake and decided to try that too.  Hibiscus has a odd but good and different  tasting aroma to it.  It's not for everyone but still worth trying.

Located in a part of Queens that's kinda hard to get to unless you are driving or taking the Mta buses.

They also serve ice cream..but no special flavors, just the regular classic vanilla chocolate and such..

Accepts all major credit cards, don't think there's a minimum needed.

  7. Cupcakes for breakfast! Why not when it's just that good?

I go to Glendale for only one reason – My dog's groomer down the block of Mahalo @ The Pet Salon. Now, I've another reason to visit Glendale. Mahalo seriously has some tasty finger lickin' cupcakes.

I ordered the Toasted Coconut and Strawberry Shortcake. Although the Strawbery Shortcake did not disappoint in flavor; it just wasn't what I was expecting. The Toasted Coconut however blew me away. Not too sweet, super dense and moist, and the frosting had the perfect balance of coconut flavored frosting and toasted coconut flakes on top.

One minor complaint though.. the coffee. The iced coffee just wasn't all that great and tasted a bit burnt 🙁

Either way! I can't wait to come back and try the Milk Lover's, the Mango Mango, etc. etc. etc.

  8. I can only review Mahalo's presence at the Queens Night Market, but I've had so many pastries and cakes from them that I feel like I've been to the store tons of times.

They take the Hawaiian and tropical theme to a new level in their cakes. I love the mango, guava, and pineapple combinations that they make that always taste fresh and crisp and delicious. Their presentation of food is also very professional. We ordered two cakes from them, and not only were they incredibly delicious but they also looked great.

Definitely give them a try for something different but worth your money.
