  1. I'll make this short. I frequent Maison Kayser every Saturday in the Flatiron location. Now that I moved this is my new location. Unfortunately, the service sucks here. This location also gets very packed so prepare to wait.

The amazing baguettes, deserts, and menu are still available, but the servers are beyond rude.
My addiction to their baguettes and almond croissant will keep me always coming back.

  2. I've only tried the Pistachio and Cherry Financier and fell in love! My boss brought the staff some bakery delights this morning; I was the lucky one to have tried this delicious treat! The location is prime being in Columbus Circle since it is a tourist area. I'll have to try their lunch options.

  3. My favs here, so far, are the Breads, PASTRIES, French Onion Soup.

Service was good. BUT, a chipped plate should never, ever be brought to the table, it should never be used at all in a restaurant.  My salad, served in a lovely square deep plate was the food item served in a chipped plate.  The watermelon cubes–I had one, & it was so delicious & perfect; but, I was not happy with the salad, based on what I recalled from the menu description, –it had scallions in the salad–I did not realize that, & it did say on the menu–I blame it on my being tired–so our very nice server took it back, & I selected something else.  5-stars for the professional attitude on taking back the salad because I wasn't happy with it. I appreciate that.
I did quietly point out to server that there was a chip at the corner of the plate.  I did not get the feeling that he took into consideration the fact that a chipped plate could pose a medical problem. He was polite and asked what I'd like instead, so I took another quick look at the menu.

However, the restaurant gets 1-star for serving any item on a chipped plate. I'm making a big deal out of the chipped plate FOR HEALTH SAFETY REASONS, PERIOD. Talk to a gastroenterologist and ask what could happen if a person swallowed chips from a plate. A lot of damage could be done to the human being. Enough said. The restaurant should be so on top of this, making sure to train Every Single Employee. If you see a chipped plate, remove it!!!

So, thanks again to the very nice server who took back my salad, & I selected a Tartine –Chicken & Artichoke–from the special dinner menu. It was very good.
Dessert–Loved it!! A work of art, truly!!! Applause for such artistry!! Delicious, wonderful, sublime!! I enjoyed the beautiful tart. I think it was called a Japanese Citrus Tart–see photos–it was lemon-Y, & I loved it!!

My friend had the Beef Bourguignon–it only had 4 pieces of meat in it. $26. We had not told the server.  I'm wondering if they simply ran out of beef.  It was getting late.  In other photos of this food item, on this Yelp review area, I've seen more than 4 pcs of beef. My friend said it was good.
We did enjoy our main courses.

I'll post photos. Forgot to photo my Tartine, was upset over the chipped plate. Yeah, I was. I think of Maison Kayser as a wonderful place, & I really felt let down over such a health risk posed by a chipped plate. Talk to E.R. Doctors.

Overall–I would certainly give this location another visit, due to the very nice servers, and staff, and the good food.
5-stars also to the nice lady in the front at the pastry section, whom I asked to please put aside a cookie, which I'd buy in a few minutes. It was a cookie that had been raved about by a fellow Yelp reviewer, so I wanted to buy n try it.

Lessons learned–should have said something about my friend's 4 pcs of beef.  I will reread my menu selection before ordering. I was a bit tired.
I will look carefully at every dish on the table to be sure it is not chipped. If I ever do see another chipped plate/dish here, I will not be back.  I do expect the restaurant to handle this important matter. You never know the assorted health issues a customer may be dealing with; a healthy person is at risk for health damage if they ingest/swallow  a chipped plate. I see a lot of visitors to our great city, and they are of ALL AGES, & I just don't want anyone to be hurt, especially by something that is preventable.

I highly do recommend the bread, pastries, & I shall visit again. Enjoy my photos!
I will give THIS LOCATION, by the Columbus Circle, another chance, to be sure.

  4. We follow Maison Kayser where ever we go. when we moved to the UWS we were waiting to try this location. I have to say that it was a bit of disappointment. The coffee station was a mess. Didn't keep up with orders. It took the barista more than 10 minutes to make ice coffee and cafe Au Liat. Once seated we were ok. Not amazing service, super cramped and busy location.

Food as always was great and fresh.

We will have to find a new place for our Saturday  Brunch

  5. My friend and I arrived around 1:15 on Sunday for brunch. We were seated immediately despite it being crowded. This location of Maison Kayser definitely seemed understaffed as it took a while for my friend and I to order. The food arrived surprisingly fast, (we both ordered the oeufs norvégian aka salmon eggs Benedict) with our drinks arriving promptly after. The food was fresh and perfectly seasoned – it was so good my friend and I cleaned out plates in record time! I also ended up buying fresh pastries to go…. Definitely a great spot for brunch! If you don't have time to sit and eat, the desserts and bread still taste equally as good when you buy to go!

  6. Stopped by to pick up a few pastries for take-away.  All remarkably good – the Financiers, Chocolat: a rich melty brownie texture, the Praline: soft rich sumptuous perfection with a regal coating of pralines, also the raspberry Frambroise, sooo good.  The Adagio – mini chocolate mouse cake with a passion fruit center, again rich as expected, for a perfect dessert. The croissants, are all excellent too.  There are many types of bread, baguettes,  tartes, eclairs, tartines, savory & sweet.
The cafe is a tight tiny jewel of a space, it gets crowded with tourists, being in Columbus Circle/Central Park South/Lincoln Center area.  They also have coffee, cappuccino, lattes, espresso, many people on a long line.  The fridge on one side has shelves of containers of various salads, cellophane wrapped sandwiches, juices. There is restaurant seating in the back with waiter service as well.
We will have to return (perhaps in a few weeks or so, after exercising and running)  This is a rare treat, have to watch the waistline…  😉

Eric Kayser, Artisan Boulanger is a very good find and worth every cent!

  7. This review is for the to-go desserts only, not dine-in.

This is my favourite cake store in the city! I always pick up a few cakes to-go. The flavors are rich (in a good way) so I usually eat one cake over two sittings. It doesn't taste too sugary or artificial.

**If you typically like cakes with a lot of buttercream/frosting, this may not be for you.

Does it get packed/busy? Yes. Are the staff rude/unhelpful? Sure. But it's well worth it.

**TIP: If you're getting dessert to go and it's your first time there, there aren't any descriptions on the name cards so it can be confusing. I've seen people get flustered by this because workers aren't very helpful when they ask about different cakes. So, I would look at some pictures on Yelp, or the description on their Menu and pick out a few potentials before getting in line.

  8. I love Maison Kayser! They make the most delicious croissants I've ever had in NYC. During my most recent visit back home to NYC, I visited this location several times as it was close to my hotel & bought almond & chocolate almond croissants for breakfast & dined in once for brunch. When I dined here I had the salmon and asparagus cocette & my boyfriend had the tartine with sausage & eggs & said it was delicious & well prepared.

They feature French teas & my Earl Gray (thé du Lord) was wonderfully aromatic & flavorful. They provide a little cast iron tea pot to steep your tea & keeps it warm while you're enjoying your cup of tea.

Service was pretty good & they are extremely busy.

The dining menus differ slightly between locations. I had brunch with my brother at their Upper East Side location & noticed that the dining options were slightly varied but had many options.

This location has outdoor seating so you can dine al fresco & people watch while you're enjoying your meal.
