  1. This is easily the biggest food coma ever!!! My older brother asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday. The answer was easy. My brother enjoys the good life of the freshest farm to table and knows delicious wines and cocktails! Maison Premiere was definitely going to be our place!

I highly recommend making a RESERVATION!! The patio was a no go and the bar was a 50 minute wait! At least our hip host heard us talking about our dismay and told us someone had just cancelled and we could sit down! He made my birthday meal start rolling. Thank you man!

My brother and I have similar taste buds and he let me go to town on the menu and even let me pick out our cocktails. Get ready!!

Olives with anchovy oil- incredible, tender and salty in the best way

A side of bread- came with three types and a little tub of seaweed butter. I loved the tiny baguette with the crunchy outside and soft interior!

Oysters- we had our bartender do a mixture of east and west coast oysters. Since, he's been there for two years, my brother and I agreed that it was the right choice. The Holy Grail oysters lived up to their name!

Morels and Asparagus- Damn it!! Make sure to keep bread for this dish! The sauce is sensational! So happy we got spoons to scoop up that fresh green purée! The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the morels added that earthy flavor.

The bass crudo- it was sparing. Beautiful but not a sharing plate and not too saucy at all.

The lobster roll- these rolls are stuffed with lobster and delicious. Came with a side of old bay potato chips.

The bass- sliced, rainbow, vegetable ribbons  and the bass was tender with a crispy skin. Another delicious bed of purée. I would highly recommend this dish.

The cocktails here are works of art. In my mind they each take 10-15 minutes to make. There is a number of ingredients and garnish details and glassware. Each cocktail is like it's own person. One is spicy and another is refreshing. Ask the bartender for suggestions with your favorite spirits. This menu can be overwhelming and very specific to taste.

Now it is time to return to my nap and loosen the belt.. Oh wait this is exactly why I wear dresses.. more room for a food baby! Please don't offer me your subway seat! Ha! Birthdays are about splurging!

Thanks David, our bartender! The drinks were delicious, you nicely paced our food out and gave us some birthday bubbly to end the meal!

  2. New study says oyster happy hours increase life span.

I am yet another reviewer vouching for the awesome happy hour.  $1.25 oysters are a deal anywhere but an absolute steal in New York. The cocktails are delicious but expensive… let's just say they cost about as much as a dozen oysters.

By the way, the bathrooms are super dark but at least the single candle in there smells good.

  3. Just came back from a brunch with my friend. The only experience I had was the drinks a year ago. Well, I can say that the food is as good as the drinks. This place is  probably one of my top 10 of the best cocktails in New York.  I even ordered some cocktails with spirits I hate but the balance were so great that I loved them. This time we went outside for the brunch. Even if it was 90°f outside, the patio is cooled down by  2 small fans. it has a very NoLa romantic vibe. In the begining, I thought that the service was a little bit slow but i think that the food and the drinks are made with such attentiveness and carefulness that it takes time (maybe it is not that but I like to believe it is). We ordered the creamed eggs with andouillette sausage, the French toast and the Poached eggs and caviar. It was so delicious. Cooked perfectly ! I am pretty surprised that it is represented as a $$$ business when it is more a $$. Ok, drinks are as much expensive  as the food but it's worth it. We had 2 cocktails each and we ordered 3 dishes. Can't wait to come back, really.

  4. This was the first wine bar place my friend and I visited in Brooklyn, and we were immediately in love with this place. A combination of the rustic and old decor definitely took us to a different era. This place is known for their Absinthe cocktails. The Walcott Express is tasty and refreshing.

This is a place I would want to come back to taste their oysters and some more of their specialty cocktails.

  5. I had a really wonderful evening here – the martinis were the best I've had in the city, good job they only let you have two or I would have been floored! Great quality gin and no headache today 🙂 The oysters were also absolutely delicious (try the ones called 'blackberries' – so very creamy and tasty). The atmosphere was fabulous, we sat up at the bar and I almost felt like I'd gone back in time. It was lovely to watch the bartenders work.

Service for the first drink was a little slow but that was because they were making everything with precision and care and the place was heaving. It was worth the wait! They offered the next drink and had it lined up as we were finishing the first so that was great.

I will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area.

  6. Touted as having one of the best oyster happy hours in the city, Maison Premiere really delivered on the promise, and I'll have to agree with the hype. I don't really buy in too often, as sky-high expectations really have a tendency to result in disappointment, but our experience from beginning to end was pretty much impeccable. We came right at opening around 4pm on a Friday, and there was a line out the door, but we were seated after about 10 minutes.

The space in general is pretty large, and with the back area, can almost be considered immense. The décor is a bit old-fashioned, with a bit of a New Orleans vibe throughout, but far from dated. We were seated outside, which featured a back patio with a "roof" covered in foliage. It definitely made for a nice, rustic setting, although there were little bits of brush and pollen flying around, and sometimes landing in our drinks and food. Nonetheless, the atmosphere is so relaxed, that we just didn't care. Craziness. The outdoor space really is an oasis, sort of sequestered from the rest of civilization.

I got the Adonis (Carpano Antica vermouth, oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximenez, orange bitters) , which had a really nice, but subtle maple flavor, and our server told us that it was her favorite drink on the menu. Nice. I also got to try the chancellor's cocktail (Black Bottle scotch, Tawny port, Vergano BVB vermouth, orange bitters), which was brought out to us in a decanter, and poured in front of us. Next time, I'll need to get the Old King Cole Martini, as it's prepared tableside, and the guy from the neighboring table touted it as one of the best martinis he'd had. Intriguing.

As for food, we got some of the bread, and 36 oysters. Hoo-wee. My favorite were the Cotuit and the Malpeque, as they were the right balance of meaty and brininess, with somewhat of a clean finish. Regardless, pretty much all the oysters we had, we enjoyed, so you really can't go wrong. The great thing is that the variety of oysters is so good and the staff is very helpful with their recommendations.

Overall, our server was very attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout our visit, especially with explaining the nuances between the different oysters and cocktails. The prices are decent for seafood in the area, with the cocktails trending on the expensive side, but when you come for oyster happy hour ($1.25 per oyster), you can really find some good value.

My review does come a little premature, as we didn't have anything other than oysters and cocktails, but considering that most of my return trips will likely consist of oyster HH, I don't have a problem giving them 5 stars. Will definitely be back for some oyster HH.

  7. I've been here twice. It gets VERY busy! The happy hour is amazing and I found my favorite East Coast oysters here (broadwaters).
They have a very nice wine list and the service is great!

Definitely try to get here during the week during happy hour! 🙂

  8. Amazing ambiance – great food – but unfortunately the service was pretty terrible.

I had been excited to try Maison Premiere just from walking past and seeing the hosts and hostesses in old timey attire. The decor inside and the adorable garden where we got to enjoy our meal were the perfect level of thematic and whimsical without being heavy handed.

Maybe they took the slow and southern theme a bit too far though because it truly took forever between each phase of ordering and receiving our food and drinks. I was happy, however, that my server confirmed that my choice or the duck hash was gluten free without even having to double check.

I wasn't drinking this morning but the few sips of bloody Mary that my friend got were pretty spectacular.

Unfortunately, she probably should have checked, as my brunch came out with a big chunk of bread on top of it even when I specifically asked if it was gluten free. They were accomodating and apologetic but always makes me nervous – what if the gluteny aspect wasn't as visually obvious as a piece of toast?

The duck hash itself was truly delicious, but maybe needed the big ol pieces of toast to be completely filling.

I haven't written off Maison Premiere completely, but would not be at the top of my list for brunch choices in the future.
