  1. $5 bbq wings, $5 jerk wings!!! Yum Yes and Yeeeeeeah!!!!  The beef patties are  good also.
I like that they sell now & laters candy (80s baby treats lol). I get it every time I get my wings.  I never had a full meal because I just love the appetizers alone. Not everything needs rice and peas.
The customer service is good, and the owner is very friendly and welcoming. A cool place to get quick take out west Indian food for Union.

  2. There's not much activity on this place but my coworkers and I gave it a shot and drove out here for lunch.

We were pleasantly surprised. When we got here. Dude running the front was very nice,

Seating is not so great. I don't recommend dining here if you have a party of over 3, The tables are small and dining inside is not all that great. Our food was served in the to-go sytrofoam containers.

I ate 2 beef patties and small oxtail but replaced rice with roti. The roti bean things mopped all the ox tail sauce.

They deliever for orders over $25.

    CC accepted.

Food took awhile to come out but we were crappy customers; replacing our rice with roti.

  3. Mama Chers did it again..
They knocked it or the park!  They do Jamaica food right!! Rum by Jamaica n's and cooked by Jamaicans.

I've ordered food here twice and not been disappointed!  Their curry oxtail was tender and rich. Their jerk chicken savory and spicy!!

    Don't miss this place!!

  4. I've been craving Jamaican food recently and didn't really know where to go, so with a little searching, I found a Yelp friend's review–it's from four years ago–and decided to check this place out. Mama Shers is a bit hidden. If you see the Kabayan Filipino market across the street, the eatery is on the side where the Delta gas station is. The place is pretty small with about five or so tables. The glass pane you see as you walk inside has meat patties, snacks, drinks, and other goodies. There's a "menu for today" on the wall and takeout menus on the counter.

Large Oxtail Meal with Rice, Vegetables, and Plantains ($14): First thing I must say is that the oxtail is incredibly tender! The meat was literally falling off the bone while I was picking it up. Flavor wise, the oxtail was flavorful–the marinade used is savory and very tasty. It has the right amount of saltiness and spice. The vegetables were soft but retained a slight crispiness; it's a perfect match with the oxtail. The rice has red beans mixed in and was plenty! In fact, the portions in general were pretty large. As for the plantains, they were very sweet and soft.

Large Jerk Chicken Meal with Rice, Vegetables, and Plantains ($12): Like the oxtail, the meat was very tender. The chicken on its own was seasoned well with a spicy and peppery rub that I really like. Before we left, the owner drizzled a special jerk sauce on top. It's a bit spicy, but mainly sweet and tangy. Personally, I think the chicken was great without the sauce; it overpowers the jerk seasoning that was rubbed on the chicken. While I certainly have a favorite place for Jerk Chicken on the other side of the country, I found Mama Shers' recipe to be pretty good.

Overall, the food is enjoyable. I'll definitely come back for the oxtails and try the curried goat next time. One thing that bugs me is the parking. Five or six cars at most can park on the side street at any given time, so you might have to park a bit far or keep circling the area until someone leaves.

  5. My go to spot in Union for Jamaican food …… OK I must admit I am a little spoiled usually spending my days working in all areas of Brooklyn, I have had really really good West Indian at all hours of the day and night, so the judging was a little tough on Mama Shers!
I recently moved to Union and everyday I am discovering the many little places to eat, drink and shop!
We came in late one Saturday night, thinking they were closed looking desperately through the window, hoping for something other than Chinese …. There was an older gentleman sweeping up and motions us to come in ….. YESSSSSS! They did have some jerk chicken left (which is exactly what we were looking for!!!) Then out comes Mama Sher! A lovely older Jamaican lady with the sweetest demeanor (I gotta tell you a welcome change from some of the staff at west Indian places on Utica Av. at 2am – don't act like you don't know yelpers)
Jerk chicken was good, had better, but overall well made nice and spicy – everything you expect from jerk chicken – runny nose and all! She makes this "jerk sauce" it almost seemed like a mayo based sauce, it was really good it complimented the spiciness of chicken by taking it down a notch, I had never had anything like that before Kudos to creating a great sauce as opposed to oxtail gravy that they usually put on the chicken.
NOW for those scrumptious beef patties – hands down AMAZING, these were definitely made in house big an puffy filled with meat great flavor and only beef, no bevy of eclectic patties. I think we had a whole convo with the older gentleman there about patties.
So if you live in the area give Mama Sher a try, it's well worth it!
