This is not a cuisine that is prolific in East Harlem. Its a small but comfortable location. There are some tables in the front and you can see the kitchen from the tables. The place looks clean.
I ordered the Gyro Box with beef/lamb for under $9. I got a lot of meat and wished they gave two pitas. The meat was good. This is a good place and I would definitely go back. If you're in East Harlem, definitely give this place a try.
I'm surprised it took me so long before finally venturing into MamaGyro. The interior blue and white theme is quite appealing, and their menu covers a wide variety of tasty bites.
I opted for a chicken Mama Gyro, given the namesake of the restaurant and was out with a gyro in hand in record time. Buy in multiple quantities for a discount (2 for $11.25).
The food is quite tasty and gives off the impression of being super fresh and healthy. My gyro was filled with ruby red tomatoes, crispy onions, freshly fries fries (almost entirely healthy), and refreshing tzsaziki (on the cashier's recommendation).
Portion-wise, one gyro is literally the perfect snack size. If you're looking for a meal, you'll need to add on a few more items. Next time I want to try their wrap special as well as their side dishes. They have a wide selection of prepared foods in their refrigerator which also looked so tasty. Meatballs and orzo? Freshly baked spanakopita? I'm down to try.
I'm so happy to see neighborhood options expanding, and incorporating new elements to the eating scene. I will definitely be back, not only because of the proximity to my apartment but also because of their use of fresh ingredients and veggies, as well as the taste and value of the munchies.

Mama's gyros sure know how to hit the spot.
