Love the empanadas here. They can take a while if they are busy with customers and you have a large order. So place your order in advance. If you just want a couple empanadas, youll be okay. Empanadas are about $1.50 a peice and come with 1 sauce container.
My fave is the chicken empanada in a corn shell and the cheese & caramel which also come with fig if you want is amazing!!! Green sauce is a must have, not too spicy.
Mama's has THE BEST empanadas around for the best prices. You can't go wrong with anything you pick to get and they are open late night !
they need to open more of these, everywhere.
to get an idea for serving size:
my bf and i had the following and was STUFFED. we couldn't finish the salchipapas!
salchipapas – huge portion of fries but not enough hot dog 🙁
chicken fajita with cheese
reggaeton (roast pork, rice, cheese)
mami's (ground beef, eggs, rice)
cubano (ham, cheese, pork)
pernil
cheesesteak
3 sauces – green, red, pink.
my favorite was the cheesesteak and cubano. DELICIOUS!
I have tried the many empanadas available here. I had the beef, chicken, cuban one, Italian sausage one, Polish sausage one, etc. I had way too many, and it was all worth it. They are so good. They also have some that have a wheat option. I like it here because it is air conditioned, and I always am able to have a seat when I arrive. I normally don't have to even wait on a line. They also have spicy sauce and a delicious mayonnaise sauce. The customer service is also great. In spite of the beautiful poster of a water fountain inside, I usually get things to go, yet I come back.
This place is the best if you want some cheap delicious empanadas. It's open for 24 hours, which is amazing and has so many different choices from savory to sweet. They have both corn and wheat empanadas and you have the option to have them fried or baked. Last time I went there we went all out order several baked and fried options and salty and sweet ones. For only $1 to $2 you can't beat that. Their classics like chicken and beef are good, but they also have options like Greek (spinach, feta, and mozzarella), cheeseburger (ground beef and cheddar cheeze)and pizza (mozzarella and tomato sauce) which are all delicious. My favorite though was the guava and cheese. I have never had a sweet empanada before and this was TO DIE FOR. It was honestly an orgasm in my mouth and trust me, I don't say things like this so…I mean it. Check out one of the locations and thank me later
THE BEST EMPANADAS IN ALL OF NYC!
It's a very small little place, however, don't let that fool you. Each and every empanadas they serve is bursting with flavor! They have every single flavor you can imagine, each better than the other. My personal favorites would have to be the plain corn cheese empanada, chicken fajita, pizza, chicken parmesan, and cheese steak on wheat, all fried! (best paired with the green sauce!!!). Oh and lets not forget the dessert empanadas they serve! I have yet to try them all, but the guava con queso one is out of this world!!
I have tried the location next to QCM before and the empanadas are nowhere as fresh and crisp as the ones served here. No complaints with the food at all!!
It's a shame to say this location lacks customer service skills in every way possible. The girls that work here are strictly business, good luck trying to get a smile, or friendly response out of them. The empanadas also take a long time once you order, but I really can't complain about that. They are always crowded and they freshly fry their empanadas, so that's definitely understandable.
Never disappointed with my food from here. This particular location is open all night which is great! Only thing is- do yourself a favor, if you stop in at night time -try not to come when the bars are letting out on weekends lol Or you can always call and order ahead of time and pick it up for faster service. They are pretty fast with service in general- but if there are ten people waiting on line before you- you're gonna be there atleast 20 mins or so waiting for your order. During the night I usually only see one guy in the back making the food so I'm sure he's going as fast as he can lol
I've tried quite a few empanadas but my favorite so far is the cheeseburger one fried and fatty of course! None of that baked crap haha They do offer them baked though but why would you deprive yourself with that?! Lol
Also- barely any seating available. I always get mine to go.
Can't believe what I just went thru!! I came to bring my 91 yr old aunt after telling her all about the the variety of flavors of empanadas and she was ecstatic. So I ordered our meals and desserts and when I paid, in cash, they don't take credit cards, I gave her a total of whatever and 25 cents. The cashier tells me "it's 27 cents." And showed me the quarter! So I'm looking in my bag for two fucking cents WHICH I DON'T CARRY ON ME BC WHO THE HELL USES PENNIES???!!! And this idiot is standing there waiting for me to give her two fucking cents!! So I gave her a quarter and when she gave the change I let it drop on the counter, maybe she could use it…then they also charge for the sauces for the empanadas at 25 cents each, I gave them a fucking dollar and turned my back on the change! NEVER AGAIN!!!! The empanadas r better next door at Pan Fino anyway…& they don't charge for the sauces!
