  1. Had an amazing experience here. Ursula, the girl running the coat check and reservation desk, is so lovely and made me feel welcome while I waited for my friend. I had an excellent drink at the bar (the al pachilli cocktail) first. We then split the octopus salad, margherita pizza, white truffle raviolini, sea bass and lavender cheesecake and chocolate mousse for dessert. My favorites were the pizza, the pasta – it's worth it – and the cheesecake (didn't eat for a week after), though the other dishes were great, too. Very good service and a lovely ambience.

(I lied. I ate normally the next day.)

  2. MAMO prides itself on authentic Italian and French cuisine…and service. I'm not sure if our waiter was an actor, or a true Frenchman, but we bought into his shtick entirely. He was just so charming and made our meal truly enjoyable.

The restaurant just started serving lunch recently, and since they don't yet have specific lunch menus, they gave us the "Brunch" options. We started the meal in the downstairs dining room (which is also quaint, fresh and charming) with the Come a Capri buratta and tomatoes and a Julius Salad. For entrees, I opted for the Truffle Ravioli, their specialty, which was AMAZING. I expected maybe 4-5 large ravioli with some sauce, but it was oodles of tiny ravioli in a very generous portion size with shaved truffle on top. I loved it! My friends also tried the Gnocchi Bolognese, Eggplant Parmigiana, and the Rigatoni with Meatballs…and there was not a bite left on any of our plates. Presentation and plating were simple and gorgeous. But the best thing was that we were also quite full! If we had a glass of wine, we would have needed a post-lunch nap.

I wish we had saved some room for dessert, but that just means we will have to return.

  3. Last night marked my inaugural visit to MAMO. I'll be returning. MAMO prepared dishes using high quality ingredients, and at very reasonable prices. I can't remember the last time I had as great of a tasting olive oil as the one that graced our table.

The chiquitas ordered a pasta dish with black truffles. I ordered the penne with meatballs. Penne was cooked perfectly and by perfectly I mean al dente. We started with the julius salad consisting of arugula, cherry tomatoes and reggiano cheese. Not the best I've had. I ordered the beef carpaccio. While the beef carpaccio tasted great it was the oddest version of beef carpaccio I've ever been served. Think rare, homemade roast beef from a great deli served with a dijon mustard and horseradish dressing.

I can't speak enough about the wonderful service we experienced. Our waitress was Marta, the extra-long pigtailed haired goddess of graciousness. Marta with her team of people were fantastic!  The people at MAMO were great: from the hostesses to the buss-boys.

I loved MAMO's thoughtfully crafted wine list. Great wines at every price point. What a treat. An equal blend of wine standards alongside some obscure vineyards. Whomever put this list together gets it; a little something for everybody.

Alas for our final course. Desserts consisted of vanilla bean ice cream with caramelized strawberries and an order of panna cotta. The panna cotta was a little too dense but it tasted great. As did the ice cream. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have biscottis to serve me with my double espresso. Marta said they are working on it. I thought how difficult would it have been to walk two blocks over to Gourmet Garage to have biscottis at the ready when a pain in the derriere like your's truly orders some?  Marta made up for it by serving us some limoncello on the house. Grazie Marta!

  5. My first time in NYC and our very first reservation was at MAMO for a late lunch. I came to NYC expecting fantastic food and not only did MAMO deliver, it set the bar extremely high for the remainder of the trip!

Their entire menu looked great, so I decided to go with the prix fixe meal to get a sampling of everything. For my starter, I chose the octopus salad, which featured chunks of perfectly cooked octopus in a salad with vinaigrette dressing. The octopus was cooked extremely well – not at all rubbery but soft and tender, almost like a steak in texture. The vinaigrette was on the salty side but overall the dish was excellent.

For my entree – I ordered the wagyu beef burger with foie gras and truffles.  This was the absolute star of the show and might be one of my favorite things I have eaten… Anywhere!  The burger was about as decadent as it sounds, and to top it all off was smothered in a rich beefy gravy. It was absolute heaven and was bursting with so many intense, wonderful flavors.

Even though I was feeling quite stuffed by the time dessert came around, I still managed to eat my entire slice of cheese cake. It was beautifully presented and had hints of lavender, and was a perfect way to top off the lunch.

Our server was nice and attentive and brought us complimentary shots of their house made limoncello with the check.

OVERALL: 5/5. Absolutely delicious and high quality food. It's on the pricy side but absolutely worth the splurge for a special occasion. I think I may be having dreams of that wagyu, foie gras, and truffle burger tonight…

  6. Restaurant is beautiful and the food is great! Even down to the water and olive oil at the table. I got the spaghettoni all' amatriciana and it was delicious. Bring a friend here!

  7. We had a delicious dinner here last night!  The upstairs has a simple, upscale vibe with white tablecloths and plush chairs.  Our waiter was French and recommended everything truffle on the menu.  We decided to go for the truffle pasta (for $50!) which was worth the price…delicious.  The Veal Milanese was also amazing…as good as the one at Da Silvano.  The burrata was so fresh and melted in your mouth.  The olive oil served with the bread was SO GOOD and the cocktails are exceptional (and strong) as well.  We finished with the panacotta–one of the best desserts I've had in a long time.  I will definitely be back!

  8. MAMO is by far the most amazing restaurant in NYC! Finest Food anywhere!
Decor is lovely. Intimate, romantic,   cozy and comfortable.
We were a group of 4….First time at MAMO for all of us. Began with cocktails. All On Point.
The pizza, thin crust, flavorful, fresh and oh so mouthwatering! Eggplant Parm app arrived in a cast iron skillet, hot with Mozzerella melting over. Tasted like my grandmothers… It was wonderful!
Truffle Parmesan Rissoto was simply fabulous! All the ingredients in these appetizers were the best, so fresh. We also had the Buratta Salad…just melted in our mouths!
A must is MAMO's Truffle Ravioli… There are no words to describe the flavors!
Salmon was prepared and presented… In a word, Perfection!
The utmost for me, was the Dover Sole! Never in my life have I enjoyed Sole the way I experienced it at MAMO's!  It was beyond delicious! Flavorful, moist, smooth  accompanied with tiny bits of warm eggplant and tomato I am definitely going back for more!  Superb!
Save room for dessert! Lavender Cheesecake was a delight! Flavors we've not ever experienced before! Delicious! As were the Profiteroles!!! AMAZING!!
Owner Michael came to our table. Told us of MAMO's beginnings. Wonderful family values and tradition molded this venue. . Grandpa would be proud of the masterpiece of a restaurant his grandson  created!
    MAMO. deserves a Michelin Rating!
    Buon Appetite!
