  1. Was craving jja jang myun as I often do. We were with our friend who suggested Mandarin and since I hadn't been there since I was younger, I figured why not? It's an old local favorite. Bad idea. It did not hit the spot. It's not terrible (food court jja jang myun is terrible and I'd rather eat Chapaghetti lol) but it's not the best either. I much rather prefer the texture and flavor at Te Min Quan which is not far and on the same street. Also the location is a bit run down in a retail/office building. Bathroom facilities down the hall are no bueno. I don't see myself coming back and feel badly that I even thought of going anywhere besides my own favorite place.

  2. I love Korean Chinese!!!

Mandarin has good prices and wonderfully sized portions.  Their jjajang is very good and so is their jjamppong.  Not super MSGish.

They are able to accomodate larger groups and the noodles I believe are made on premise.

Service is great, usually the same ladies who are there during lunchtime.

Oh, and can't forget about the giant-sized dumplings!  So tasty!

  3. I consider this place to the be original korean restaurant of palisades park. I've been coming since I was a wee lad and despite it's name, they serve korean food. I guess it has some chinese influence, but it's korean food. I've tried most of their food on the menu and it really hasn't changed much since the place has been around.

Definite go to: jja jang myun. Probably the most famous korean noodle dish, Mandarin has definitely been the spot to go to for this awesome dish. They serve it fresh and hot. just the way it should be. Although, back in the day, they would show live feed on their tv in the restaurant of a guy slamming the noodles and making it from scratch. Those were the days… now they just have korean shows playing on the tv. lame. My other favorites would have to be the shrimp fried rice, jjam bbong, mandarin special fried rice, ggam poong gi (korean general tso's is the best way to describe this), and my new favorite, gooryoyuk (fried beef with tomato chili sauce). I usually get a dish to accompany my entree and they're all so good. The price is very reasonable for what you get and if you decide to sit in, their service is great too!

  4. First time I was trying to come here on a Saturday lunch time, this place was mad packed the wait line was out the door. At that point, I gave up but I knew this place is the real deal. Tried again for an early Sunday dinner and still, it was pretty busy.

I like Korean Chinese restaurants but have seen plenty others that are mediocre around here. This place is definitely the best Korean Chinese restaurant I've been to in the area. Very reasonably priced for a Palpark restaurant. They have really good jjajangmyun, jjampong, and mapo tofu.

  5. If I wasn't Korean, I'm not sure how I'd feel about this restaurant. The servers have crazy staring problems.

This place is the o.g. when it comes to hand made noodles. They don't have a live feed of the noodles being made anymore but you can hear the noodles being slammed around and being hand pulled. But the buck seems to stop here…

The Samsung (seafood) jajangmyun sauce was super thick from cornstarch. The oodong was actually pretty delicious and the half oodong and half jajangmyun was a pretty good deal — the food was spilling over.  The gampoonghee is made more saucier than other places.

Love the noodles but sadly the rest of the flavors don't hold together especially when every where you turn is another fabulous restaurant. I will always have respect for this place though!!

  6. I do love places that have JaJang & JamPong 1/2 dishes!  You definitely hear them pounding to make fresh noodles from the kitchen.

FOOD:  I had the seafood JaJang which was a plentiful serving for one.  Great jajang sauce with homemade noodles…what a great combination!

Great food, good service but not the easiest place to find.

  7. I enjoyed my dinner here on a Sunday night during peak hours. It was packed but the servers were very quick and were able to seat is right away. My bf and I shared one jjajangmyun (black bean sauce noodles) with an extra side of noodles and a fried beef dish with sweet and sour sauce called tangsooyook. It was delicious and filling. Noodles were chewy and fresh too.

  8. Place could use a makeover – really run down. I actually ended up here because the person I was with did not want to go to Choiga Neng Myun, which is next door, anymore once they saw the Mandarin Restaurant sign (and they were obviously craving Chinese-Korean food).  This is NOT an authentic Chinese restaurant – it's a Korean restaurant that makes fusion Chinese food like jja jang myung and jjam bbong.

This place is upstairs and there's a parking in the back – valet begins a little later in the night I think. The food itself was okay. Nothing made me want to come back for more. I'd rather go to Da Ming Guan on the same avenue for Chinese-Korean food.
The jja jang myun is okay – but it's really not that difficult to make those anyway!
