Yikes. Had a layover at JFK and decided to try this restaurant. That was a mistake. This was just not good.
The "Irie Pasta" was literally just pasta with cheese, cream, and canned peas, corn, and green beans. I mean, I don't know what else to say about it, other than that I would never order it again.
Next up was the stewed chicken. It actually was not bad, but not good either. The vegetables that came with it were pretty bland and lacking in variety.
Finally was the snapper.Overall not bad, but didn't taste very fresh.
I've never had Jamaican food before, but I thought this was great.
I was running a professional development program at a high school nearby, and we were buying lunch. (Teachers never get lunch bought for them, so when funds allow, I try to do that. They work hard and get no love.) This place showed up on GrubHub, and everyone said it sounded good and we gave it a shot.
We all ordered a variation on their jerk chicken plate with different portions and rice options. I tried to order the salad version, but this was right after the first big blizzard, so they hadn't gotten their produce delivery. They called us right away and were very happy to substitute other vegetables for the lettuce. (We opted for a steamed cabbage/tomato side, and I thought was great. We also had someone who can't eat any sort of starch and this side also worked for her.)
As I said, I've never had Jamaican food before, so I have no yardstick for that cuisine, but everyone seemed to enjoy their food as much as I did–there weren't leftovers. If/when I find myself back in this neighborhood again, I'll definitely go back.
