MangoSeed Restaurant
“I just had a takeout but the Jerk chicken was so well spiced, a little too mild perhaps, there could have been some more kick in my opinion.”
“Have you ever had a "Jalapeno Martini or the best Mango Majitos on the planet" Me either until I found Mangoseed.”
“Shark n' Stormy's & Sugarcane lemonade are our favorite drinks (strong!), but it's hard to go wrong with anything here.”

Ive been here a few times and I never had a complaint. This time i went the Hostess had several of us on the sidewalk waiting to be seated in the RAIN. After 45 minutes she comes out and says all they have left is oxtails. The folks that were waiting beside me lost their minds. They cussed her out until she told them not to come back inside. And then she had the nerve to discuss them with US.. We could care less…Unprofessional… I went in and ordered my small plate of food and the oxtails came out with more fat on to than expected. I do not like fatty oxtails at all. The servers are always attentive.. The space isn't too big and the noise level isn't too loud. You can actually hear yourself speak while you listen to good music. On that particular Saturday they had a DJ, i don't know if thats a regular thing.
Oh yeah they do not let you substitute anything on the menu. So order carefully.
I was doing some errands in the Flatbush / Prospect Park area after work one day. So this was a perfect excuse to get some Caribbean food.
I tried two dishes, jerk chicken with rice and plantain $14 and the jerk salmon $23. Both of the dishes were jerked the right way (in a very non gutter way). Perfect mix of flavors and decent portion size. I did enjoy the chicken dish more, but the salmon was just as tasty.
They offer brunch here with some good looking options, might come back for that one day.
So a friend suggested that we come here to dine as she treated myself and another friend for our birthdays which recently passed. I checked in on Yelp and noticed that complimentary shots were being offered but I don't drink so that didn't help me at all.
The menu selections was very limited so I decided to choose the Jerk Chicken, rice and peas with plantains. My friends chose the same dish, pasta with Jerk Salmon. We chatted while we waited for our food to arrive but sometimes it was hard to hear because of where we were seated and although the speaker was elevated, it seemed as if it was right next to us. We enjoyed the music selections though.
Finally the food arrived and its presentation was very nice. I'm big on how chefs plate the food and make it a piece of art. The rice and peas was so good and especially the sweet plantains which was exactly how I like it. Now for the jerk chicken, it was so AMAZINGLY GOOD. The best jerk chicken that I've tasted thus far. I will definitely be back for some more in the future.
I asked for more water which our server did bring BUT when I went to drink some water, it was room temperature. I asked the server for cold water so she brought a glass of ice cubes instead.
My friend said there is also a backyard area as well if you would like to be seated outdoors. Overall I enjoyed my dining experience at MangoSeed Restaurant.
Three Years later I go back to Mango Seed and it was an EPIC FAIL for me personally…. I did not enjoy the mac and cheese – it was on the overly heavy side with the cream sauce.
Oxtail – it was just NOT GOOD…… I tried to dock it up with Salt and hot sauce – it was not happening….. It was just killing my taste buds….. 29 dollars later…
What happened to the plantain chips and guacamole dip w/ Bacon…. what happened to the Jerk Cornish Hen….. back in 2013 the food was SO GOOD……
Currently in 2016 – I am not impressed at all….. Disappointed in my meal today. I needed some tea and there was no hot beverage available – come on Mango Seed….. (big sigh)
However – my friend LOVED the fish tacos…. and I have to say the spinach was good.
I've had this place bookmarked for a few months so I was excited that babe agreed to do brunch with me. We decided to take the train into Brooklyn because it was a beautiful day and we wanted to turn up.
We were greeted by the hostess who sat us within five minutes. Not too long after we were aporoached by a young bubbly girl who told us the specials for the Sunday Brunch Fare and the different flavors for the mimosa special.
We ordered Guava and Mango Mimosas to start. For brunch we had The MangoSeed Burger along with the Chicken and Belgium Waffle.
My burger was just okay. The brioche and turkey bacon were the highlight. The patty was flavorless and relied too heavily on the cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and chipotle mayo. The side salad that came with my burger was not enjoyable because of the citrus vinaigrette that they used to coat the lettuce. Babe enjoyed his meal, but I thought the chicken was just okay. Perhaps if it was bone in it would've been juicer.
At least five different people served us which was mind boggling because I was unsure whom to leave the tip for. I give MangoSeed a strong 3.5 because the food didn't wow me, but I enjoyed the mimosas very much. I'd like to come back for the backyard dining and see if I could increase their stars.
Wow!!! The food is incredible!!!!
I am giving it a 4 because there is room for improvement with the wait staff. Having said that the owners are friendly.
Now on to the food/drink review….
Sugarcane lemonade- perfect summer drink! Taste the island deliciousness.
White mango sangria- excellent- get two.
Jerk chicken- I have never had jerk chicken presented so beautifully! And the taste – slap yo momma good!
Mangoseed, oh mangoseed…
Why did it take me so long to try you?
I came here with two of my friends on a Sunday morning for brunch. The place looks small on the outside but they surely make up for it on the inside. This may have been the first time I went to brunch before noon on a Sunday and I think this may be my new thing. I'm not sure if it's because my group was early or if this place is just good as shit when it comes to food and service, but I was beyond satisfied.
So we decided to sit in the backyard and be cute, because well… that's what we are. The waitress greeted us in less than 5 minutes and she came over like she woke up in the best mood ever. VIBES…everything in life is about VIBES! Upon check in on my handy dandy yelp app I was able to redeem the complimentary shot (I believe it had Bacardi 151 rum but it was SO good), my friends didn't have yelp but our waitress didn't want them to feel left out so she made sure to hook them up too. God bless her! We then proceeded to scout out the menu and although we all ordered the chicken and waffles, the menu is interesting enough to make your decision making skills very weak.
We asked how the waffle was because chicken on top of a terrible waffle defeats the purpose. The waitress informed us it was whole wheat and we were too skeptical but she then reassured us that its still light and fluffy so we said ok we'll try it. Simply put, I had to revise my top 3 chicken and waffle dishes once I had this dish. The chicken is boneless and perfectly seasoned and so juicy and all of the things you want your piece of fried chicken to be. Whole wheat waffle? BITCH WHERE?!!!!!! That waffle was too good to be whole wheat. I'm convinced that they can make a gluten free and multi grain waffle taste bomb too! There's a cinnamon punch to the waffle as its topped with some berries and banana cream. I literally think I'm going back soon just to eat it again. Oh, AND THE HIGHLIGHT, $15 unlimited mimosas because we all love being drunk by 2pm right? Their mimosas come in about 4-5 flavors and it will make you leave there with sunglasses on to hide the alcohol behind your eyes.
The music is great, the feel is even better, and the food and service makes you fall in love. So whenever there's nice weather head over to Mangoseed and let loose baby, because I know that's what I plan to do!
Had an absolute blast here!
Came for brunch on a Sunday. Live DJ and the vibes were just amazing! Made me want to go dancing when I left here.
I ordered the jerk chicken and waffles which was surprisingly very good. We also had the Brooklyn Mules which was delish! They have an $15pp unlimited mimosa deal until 2:30 pm. I'll probably partake in that deal the next time I go.
