Manhattan Diner
“I got the French Toast Lumberjack and it was the best breakfast I ever ate and the servers were really nice.”
“With most entrees you get a cup of hot soup (the chicken orzo and matzoh ball are excellent) or a very fresh salad.”
“Plus, it's a block away from the subway stop, so it's super easy to get to as well.”

Great NYC diner!! Delicious pancakes! The waitstaff was efficient and friendly. But it's really about the food!! Scrumptious and not over priced. Parking as always in the city is a challenge but that didn't stop us for having a wonderful brunch dining experience. I was impressed with how a very chaotic Sunday brunch was managed.
Went for lunch and got the chicken fingers and waffle fries. I loved the waffle fries and home made ranch but was not a huge fan of chicken fingers.
My friend got the sliders, which were huge and tasted great!!
The service was good and it was a clean and quick establishment.
It was around 8pm. I'd landed in New York three hours earlier, but had only just arrived at my hotel. I was hungry and tired, and I thought I needed some decent food before I hit the sack. So, this is New York. City that never sleeps, great food on every corner. I'll just take a walk and see what I can find.
Well 30 seconds after I step out the door of my hotel I see a diner. Hey! An American diner! Gotta get that experience under my belt. So in I go.
I'm greeted by a friendly cashier who takes me to a table down the back. It's nice and warm inside, which is a nice change from the cold New York night, especially having arrived from sunny Queensland.
I'm pretty overwhelmed by the menu. It's huge. I decide on NY sirloin, washed down with a milkshake. As big as the meal is, it doesn't take me long to polish it off. Easily one of the best steaks I've had. My friendly waiter chats to me a while, and recommends the grilled skirt steak for next time. It's his favourite. He also helped out a poor, clueless Aussie who hasn't slept in a couple days and is a bit unsure about this whole tipping business.
I'm back for breakfast the next morning, and it's also delicious, and huge. The staff are the right mix of subdued and friendly for an early morning. Nothing worse than in your face chirpiness.
That evening I meet up with the group I'm travelling with, and we end up outside Manhattan Diner, so in we go on my recommendation. They accomodate us easily, and the same friendly waiter remembers me from the night before. Yes, i'll have the skirt steak this time.
We all loved our meals, and none of us managed to finish them. It's not often I won't be able to finish a steak!
The prices are also more than reasonable. I never did return, but that's because I was determined to try as many different places as I could. If I get back to New York, this may be the first place I eat once more.
Finding a new diner in a new neighborhood of Manhattan is always scary. My boyfriend just moved to the Upper West Side after being an eastsider for the past 3 years.
We were wandering around and found Manhattan Diner and thought "Hey! Let's give it a shot, we've got to start somewhere". We were very happy with our experience!! The staff was friendly and were seated right away.
I ordered the pene with vodka sauce which was delicious. All their pasta looked good, actually. The prices were very reasonable too. The bf ordered the Manhattan Diner burger with fries. The fries were crispy with a soft inside – just how i like 'em! The burger was cooked well and toppings were fresh. We had to top off the meal with a classic chocolate milkshake, because…why not!
Will be back – great location (near the 96th 1,2,3), and great location to his new place.
Great Upper West Side diner! My friend and I were seated right away and both enjoyed killer burgers for lunch (I ordered the Mexican burger, highly recommend). I got a mimosa as well, it was pricey but decently sized (heads up that it's quite pulpy but that didn't bother me).
They took a while to bring us our check but we were hanging out and didn't mind waiting around for a little. I would come back here.
My basic expectations for a diner:
1) A menu that literally (YES, LITERALLY) has everything you could ever possibly want on it. Check. A friendly reminder that just because it's on the menu doesn't mean you should eat it.
2) Classic items that are always good like eggs & bacon and turkey clubs. Check.
3) Open early and late. Check.
There are also plenty of seats and the wait staff is solid– friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful desert case in the front but sadly it looks way better than it tastes. Prices are reasonable but not cheap.
This is where my boss and I have our weekly meetings. They have big tables with booths that are perfect for business meetings. They have a big menu so just about everyone can find something on here. The staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. They give big portion sizes, so you're really almost getting two meals for the price of one.
So, surprisingly, this diner didn't have the oily-ness that I usually expect from diners I've been to. Thankfully so!!
I had the burger so I'm sure I got my fair share of oils, but nonetheless I was lovin' my burger with a hefty side of fries! Surely satisfied my cravings. To top it off, I had a huge slice of moist chocolate cake! Which is a must share with 3 other people cause it's huge and so good.
It's hard to go "out of your way" in Manhattan but I'd definitely come back if I was around the area!
