  1. Won my heart! This location is a bit smaller than the one near 135th, but that didn't stop me from grabbing a plate and munching on this great food.

I love that they have tons of options, you can be a total fatty one day and then a health nut the next or in one sitting you can be porky pig and slim jim…as badly as I wanted to be a porky, I decided to go with salad and fruit. Satisfied my tummy enough. 🙂

Polite staff, clean environment, just grand and cheap- depending on how you pack your plate 😉

Oh! Ps. The bean pie is amaze balls! Yes amaze balls.

  2. Manna's is a chain of "soul food" buffets that turned up in Harlem a few years ago.  There are now a total of 4 locations in Harlem and 2 in Brooklyn.  The location above is the latest in their quest to take over the soul food empire from the Queen of Soul Food, Sylvia.  Basically, Manna's is a typical buffet salad bar.  The food tends to be well monitored and they always have tempting selections to choose from.  Although the food is not slap your mama good, it's great for when you have a taste for something other than fast food but you are short on time. There is a a cold table that offers healthy selections of fresh fruits and vegetable salad combinations and a hot table that offers everything from crispy fried chicken (actually very good!) to sliced ham to mashed potatoes and gravy.  There is usually a nice selection of hot veggies as well…cabbage, collard greens, string beans and corn.  All locations have seating and you pay for your food by the pound so choose wisely.  Plan to spend from $6-10 depending on your selections.  Side note, Manna's is owned by the same people that run Pier 2110.

  3. It was like heaven to walk into this place and see all the dishes on offer. They have a hot bar filled with lots of different dishes and a cold bar with salads and fresh fruit. There is also a mouth watering array of desserts. All of the food looks great and thankfully tasted the same. I tried a little of a number of hot dishes my favorites were the roast turkey and stuffing, the fried chicken and the okra dish. The banana custard dish is to die for and I felt so guilty that I bought a container of fruit. The fruit was very fresh and good quality. I went back a fee weeks later and there were some different dishes as well as most of the above and peach cobbler. I got the fruit again, it makes me feel less guilty for eating all of this calorie-laden stuff. I'm here for another two weeks and plan to do a lot more walking, well it is New York. Great staff too! Go for it, it's fantastic.

  4. Whenever I don't bring lunch to work, I stop by Manna's.  Yes, it's close to my office, but that's not the only reason I head over there. It's the fact that Manna's provides inexpensive and delicious food.  They have a variety of salads (regular spring salads to kale salads to potato salads, etc), fresh fruits, and soul food.  And! They have fresh fruit smoothies that are blended with real fruit, ice, and just a little simple syrup.  In fact, I think I'm going to head over there now.

  5. This is as straight forward as it gets. I came here while I was waiting for the Schomburg was open to grab some food and I was welcomed by the aroma of yummy soul food which I am not quite used to eating. Like I said about another soul food restaurant I wasn't too familiar with many of the things on the menu because I grew up on West Indian cuisine at home. However this place did not disappoint! They charge by the pound so be careful not to fill up your plate too much, but even so I only payed $6 for a whopping carton of fried fish, baked macaroni, rice & peas (well beans in Af American terms), and string beans. It was sooooo good. I urge you to stop by and help yourself to this awesome buffet. Nom nom.

  6. Soul food by the pound (at a bargain price by any standard let alone NYC) served cafeteria style on plastic trays.

Swoon worth ribs with just the right caramelized ends, and pineapple ham that gave me a meat-gasm.

Subtle sides like the simple rice and beans, delicately balanced flavor so well executed that it could easily be served up in one of those hipster comfort food gastropub pubs for 17 times the price.

  7. Good option for quick soul food.  On Saturdays I take the M60 bus crosstown and I've noticed Manna's for the past couple of weeks.  I was pumped to finally get a chance to eat there.  Manna's is buffet style which means I was able to sample a bit of everything.

I was getting food for a friend and I.  She specifically requested for nothing fried so I piled her box with ribs, baked chicken, rice with chicken, plantains, corn beef hash, baked salmon, string beans and avocado.  I stuffed my box with fried chicken, fried whitening, chicken stuffing, rice and beans, rice with chicken, veggies and honey glazed ham.  In total each box was around six dollars and the cashier will put rubber bands around your styrofoam boxes if you tell him it's to go.  If you stay, there are some seats on street level but also seating upstairs.

Even with the 20 min or so train ride to my friend's apt, the food was still hot and delicious.  Each item was savory and different and my taste buds were very happy.  My friend loved everything in her box, especially the ribs.  Although I prefer eating soul food in a restaurant, Manna's is definitely a great alternative if you want bites of different dishes and if you're in a time crunch.

  8. Was roaming the area with my girlfriend looking for somewhere to eat. Strolled inside this establishment & no disappointment came from then on. I am a big fan of a big buffet as I have a big appetite. At $7 a lbs you wont be spending much money here & you'll certainly be enjoying the food they offer. From macaroni/cheese to fried chicken &  assortments of salad. The fruit especially looked really fresh. This place looks like the cornerstone for all lunch breaks for people who work in the area. Slightly busy walking in on a Saturday afternoon. Staff at the counter were friendly. I will be returning soon! Try the cornbread if you want to send your taste buds to heaven.
