Maoz Vegetarian

“There was a toppings bar with cucumbers, carrots, radishes, cole slaws, cilantro sauce, and hummus where you could stuff your pita and falafel…so satisfying and dare I say, a little fun.”

“I also never thought a chain could make these round crunchy chickpeas balls pack a punch like smaller specialty hole in the wall places can.”

“I am officially a convert after trying it out in Amsterdam (yes, Dutch, how exotic!)”

  1. Very nice workers, clean small place. The toppings are awesome with so many choices. Delicious and well worth it.
Recommendation: get the falafel salad instead of the pita, trust me! because then you can fit so many more toppings and variety.  My pita sandwich didn't allow for all the toppings and sauces that I desired.  Next time 🙂

  2. I've been wanting to try Maoz for a while but this tiny spot is always packed for lunch. I stopped by for dinner recently and was pretty impressed. I ordered the falafel salad, which came with a choice or either mixed greens or kale. For $9, you get a relatively small salad but have the option to add as much as you'd like from a selection of toppings that include roasted broccoli, marinated carrots, beets, tomatoes, salsas, tabbouleh, and more. The falafel on my salad was still warm, which I loved. The meal was pretty greasy so it's not as healthy as it might seem, but it's a good amount of food for the price and the women working there were very patient with me as I asked questions about the menu.

  3. Go now. I'm not kidding!
This place was recommended to me by co-workers, and I'm so glad I went.
Middle eastern food kind of scares me, so I was hesitant. I ordered a falafel with hummus and feta (both premium toppings) and a water. Less than $10!!!
After you get your food, they have a full topping bar. I added pickles and broccoli, with the garlic sauce. This sauce is SSSOOOOO GOOD!!! The broccoli was cooked to a crispy perfection, and I ended up just eating the pickles by themselves.
The cheese was fresh, as was the super creamy hummus.

Definitely a stop next time I'm in the area.

  4. Maoz Vegetarian is a good option if you are hungry for something both light and healthy, like before a concert. Their houmous is to die for!

Perfect to eat right outside, under the trees of Union square, on a sunny day.

Quite cheap, but if you want to eat inside, it's not always clean. You may have to wait in line at peak hour.

Fresh food, salads, houmous, sandwiches, bread and drinks… really a great choice to make in the neighborhood!

  5. It's one of the few heathy spots for a reasonable price in NYC, so I eat there. But the seating is slim and–at least this evening–the crowd was ultra ghetto. There was a high-looking girl with a exposed gut; also a very large man proceeded to take half of the entire contents of the grilled broccoli tray, even though it had just been replenished. And after I commented how much he'd taken, he said "you know that how fights are started" and threatened me further until his friend coaxed him out the door. Nice place–interesting at least.

  6. When this place first opened I thought the world was a better place! Falafels here are so delicious and when you get to pick your own toppings and sauces it makes it a million times better. They are always so hot and fresh and they never disappoint me.

  7. Fast. Affordable. Convenient. Hits the spot.

Bowl or a Pita paired with an open topping bar to fill your vessel with whatever you want – that's a real steal. Everything tastes great, but probably not because the ingredients are high quality (just based on price) and more so that the sauces/hummus are delicious.

Falafel pita with hummus, which I then stuffed to my liking – $7.

  8. Middle Eastern food plus add your own toppings- what a deal. This place is pretty great if you're craving a falafel or pita on-the-go. It's also surprisingly pretty healthy too. I like getting the salad (which comes to about $12). You get to choose your type of lettuce, side (hummus, falafel, etc) , and then pile on the toppings. My favorite topping is the garlic broccoli. So good.
