My parents wanted to eat here on Father's Day because they had a coupon that was only valid for the holiday. There were initially a couple of red flags with the restaurant: as fancy as it attempted to present itself as (and as high as the prices were) it still needed a coupon to draw customers, it was only valid for a holiday, they felt they needed a coupon for a holiday, and the coupon itself was only valid for a party of four. (Is this just a huge oversight, or are they being cheap?) We also entered the restaurant around 6pm and it was only a third to a quarter full.
Although everyone there was polite (almost excessively), like with the coupon situation there were issues: service was slow (have fun with those empty water glasses), the waiters kept bumping into the back of my dad's chair as they were weaving between tables (my dad was annoyed to the point where he told us if it were just him and my mom at the restaurant he would've just stood up and left), and they hassled us hard at the end of the meal with the coupon that apparently they had no idea existed.
The food was underwhelming. The lobster bisque was thin and a bit sour. The paella marinera had some bright spots (the mussels in particular, followed by the scallops and the lobster) but the rice was hard and the shrimp was dry. By no means did it justify the ~40-minute wait for the food to arrive, or the expensive price.
We were all disappointed with our meals and our decision to come here, and we won't return. I was leaning between two and three stars, but at the end of the day it's our firm consensus to not return that gives this place two stars. There's a reason why the restaurant was so empty and needed a coupon.
For a great seafood experience, we should've just traveled a mile to River or Mizumi.
Came here for a super late dinner after working super late. The place was so cute and the older waiters were also really nice and cute. We ordered the grilled calamari, which is pretty good – nice charred taste , not a fan of the marinara sauce though. We got the paella valenciana to share – which had decent flavor, but was too wet and saucy for a paella.
Really cute place to have Christmas dinner w your family.
I went there for a late lunch with my family. This restaurant has been special to my family for years because my parents got married here. My dad wanted to revisit this restaurant and we went on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the paella Valencia and my sister ordered the chicken and rice. The restaurant is very upscale, but there were a few downsides. It was kind of awkward because the restaurant was kinda of empty. I feel awkward eating in a establishment where it is empty or very little customers are there. Also, it took a good while to get our paellas which was a little annoying. I guess what can u expect with paella. Other than those downsides I enjoyed my experience at Marbella.
The service throughout the restaurant was very friendly. My waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu. I inquired about the wine list and their wine steward came out to answer my questions. Normally wine stewards just want to recomend the most expensive bottle on menu. However, this guy recomended bottles based on region of spain and the varietal; which made it that much more interesting.
Clearly he knew his wine, the seafood paella and the grilled octopus were my favorites. I did also ordered the garlic shrimp tapas and the spanish chorizo with potatoes and manchego which were good but after having the paella and the grilled octopus…nothing could top that. I was not expecting white glove service but cleatly this classic restaurant does it very well without feeling stuffy. By the way prepare yourself for the bill. My wine alone was $45 plus the food. Final bill with tip was about $200. All well worth it.
The decor may still be stuck in 1980's..lits red velvet and gold tones but the food is a winner!
Love the ambiance and the music that was playing when we walked in. It has a traditional Spanish decors, jaw dropping chandeliers, curtains and decorative accents. We were welcomed by very well dressed wait staff. Very pleasant and very well mannered.
We were asked what we want for our drinks and settled for their cocktails and beer. We tried their calamari for our appetizer. It was crispy and crunchy. We ordered from the "Specialties of Spain", I always try the specialty of any place I visit. As this ha a Spanish restaurant , we had paella a la valenciana and matched it with sole stuffed with crab meat. Paella was served in a sizzling pot and could served 2. It was very delicious. The sole was so tasty . We were happy with our meal. Surprised though for our Sunday lunch price was the same as dinner price where in there were less choices. We came very early for lunch hour and were the first clients inside the restaurant.
Never got the chance to try dessert. Too full with what we had but I heard of good reviews of their crepes. I'll try that next time.
I recommend this place. A perfect place for any family gathering. The downside is looking for parking as it is located along a busy street.
I am staying at the hotel next door (Adria) and found out they deliver. I got the pasta with vodka sauce garlic bread, and croquets. It was delivered by a guy in a tux in about 20 minutes and it was well priced hot and delicious.
Wonderful dining experience. Sangria is really good, sometimes mixed table side for viewing. Must try any Paella dish (a few varieties offered). We had the classic seafood and chorizo, delicious. Another stand out dish, veal shank with the marrow in. The size was a generous portion, though who wants to! Shrimp cocktail was fresh and shrimps were quite large, worth the price. This is a neighborhood gem. Recommend it for its classic Spanish fare. If you want, can order different pasta' s as well.
I ordered take-out because we wanted paella, so I can't comment on the service much. Well, except that the guy who answered the phone did sound a bit chippy, and one of the older waiters when I entered the restaurant seemed to exhibiting the same glitch in his personality. But the person who greeted me (a younger waiter) seemed perfectly fine, so maybe the other gentleman was just having a bad day.
I ordered the Paella Valenciana con Langosta (that's menu-ese for Paella with Lobster) for one, at a cost of $29.95. I really need to see the size of the person this "for one" order is made for – we got four servings of food out of this tray. Yes, the to-go order comes in a tray! So unless your job entails pass-blocking for Eli Manning or something, my guess is you'll have plenty of leftovers. The paella is tasty and filled with seafood, but be forewarned: the lobster you get is just one half of a tail.
We also ordered tortellini in alfredo sauce for the kids. My finicky daughter (we call her Cat…because that's her name) didn't like it, but my son and I did.
The restaurant itself is very old-school: think old boys' club-type steakhouse decor. But hey, with so many places opening up with more modern motifs, I guess the young'uns might call this a #throwback.
