Mario's is awesome for meats! They have a good selection of cuts to choose from and will ground anything for you. Sometimes it can get a bit pricey but you are paying for quality. They also have a deli selection, cheese section and some dry Italian goods. Friendly service.
Best Butcher in the Neighborhood, with a good deli section. This is my go-to place when I need a special meat cut. I have bought Veal shanks, veal cutlets, a 5 bone rib roast, chuck steaks and other cuts from them, all high quality. They will butcher a cut to your order. Be prepared to wait on line though, as this place is often crowded.
As for the deli, their Chicken Cutlet hero has thick cutlets, with very browned breadcrumbs. They melt their cheese so it is nice a liquidy and permeates the breading. lettuce is shredded iceberg. good bread.
A cut above the rest….
When you walk into Mario's Meat Market you are transported back to the neighborhood butcher shop of days gone by, much like my experience entering many other of the Middle Village food procurer's.
The days gone by I am referring to are when service and personal relationships were just as important as providing the best meats and produce in town. Some of the wonderful meats available at Mario's include, but certainly not limited to: veal, lamb, pork, chicken, fresh-made sausage and all items can be cut and pounded to order.
Behind the glass cases that are filled with the above mentioned, you'll find butchers wearing uniform black shirts and a few with the classical blood splattered white aprons. When your purchase is handed over the counter, your cuts will be wrapped in crisp white butcher paper and you are thanked with a smile.
I frequently pick up some slabs of steaks or pork chops, which are perfect on the grill, and they always have a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that you would more likely find in a steakhouse, as opposed to a retail shop.
.The prices will be a bit higher, but in my opinion, the quality overshadows the slightly higher price, anytime.
