How in the tom foolery did I not know about their Thursday burger special?!!! For $20 you get a choice of wine or beer, a burger and fries and a half a dozen oysters. IT. WAS. AMAZING.
I had the MP burger which was delish (although the medium turned out to be more rare than I anticipated). I also ordered the duck fat fries which were so damn good I began to hate the regular fries my burger came with. All in all it was very good, I'm just sad I didn't get to try more.
But don't worry, I'll be back.
Visited Maritime Parc to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband. Our dinner reservations was for 7 and it was still pretty empty when we arrived but started to pick up around 8. Our server was very nice. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu. I enjoyed most of the dishes but wasn't blown away. The lobster bisque was good but had an powerful hint of nutmeg. The crab dumplings were good. The swordfish was very good. I enjoyed the pork belly but started to feel sick after eating it and I did not touch the venison. You get to choose your dessert and by then I was so stuffed that I ordered scoops of homemade ice cream. The restaurant gave us 2 glasses of champagne and 2 cookies to go for our anni. Service was great and I enjoyed the ambience but I wish the food was a little more memorable. Also I think the $7 parking fee with no valet was a little ridiculous. Not somewhere I'd go back to.
It was my first birthday celebration in JC and I really wanted to go somewhere special for my b-day dinner out with the mans. Yes, there are like 5 places right in my hood that look dope and are on my to-try list. But, I wanted something little less run of the mill and off the beaten path.
Maritime Parc is located in Liberty State Park (next to Liberty House) and has some seriously intense views of the NYC skyline. It's such a romantic spot, and if you are trying to impress someone, whether it be a date or even parents in town, I'd suggest taking them here in a heartbeat!
Okay, so ambiance aside. I wanted a delicious birthday meal, and the real reason this spot stood out was because of the eats. The menu boats a delicious array of seafood and meat options, and it all sounds decadent.
The rundown:
-Gin and grapefruit juice. AKA a cup of gin with a splash of grapefruit juice, but I guess no one ever complained about a drink being too strong. Am I right?
-Bread basket with a dipping sauce that had cauliflower and feta cheese. It was a little bit hearty to dip bread in, so I ate it as a standalone salad which was actually delicious.
-Seared octopus atop a bed of pork belly hash. Although it was an octopus dish, there was more pork belly then octopus which I thought was a bit odd. I would have appreciated more octopus, but all in all it was still very tasty.
-Crispy fried string beans, fried to absolute perfection. The siracha aioli was the perfect dipping sauce.
-Seafood pasta. Normally at restaurants like this there would be a ton of pasta (the cheap stuff) and a skimpier amount of seafood (the good stuff). Completely not the case here. My bowl was overflowing with hearty chunks of shrimp, scallop and crab. The cream sauce was rich and flavorful. Definitely a sinful dish, but calories don't count on the birthday.
-Seared scallops over a bed of corn salsa. This was my BF's entree, and I snuck in a couple of bites. The scallop had the perfect sear, and there were four large on hearty bad boys on the plate.
-Too full to order dessert, but they gave us doggy bags with complimentary chocolate peanut butter oatmeal banana cookies (an absolute mouthful) and they were insanely good. Confession, I actually ate mine for breakfast the next morning.
Maritime Parc made my birthday dinner a great one, and it just makes sense to come here for a special occasion dinner. With great food and city skyline views, you really just can't go wrong.
Maritime Parc is absolutely stunning. The crisp contemporary aesthetic plays off of the luminescent New York City skyline, making the eatery the ultimate date spot. Not only are the views and the decor stunning, the highly curated menu and visual delight of the food are exquisite. We went during Hudson Restaurant Week (again… our first time was a few years ago), and my boyfriend went for the prix fixe while I had my eyes on dishes from the regular menu. We started our beautiful dinner with a glass of crisp prosecco. For a starter, we enjoyed the French onion soup mussels from the special prix fixe and the lobster gnudi. The mussels were meaty and salty with bacon, while the decadent lobster gnudi was rich and silky, studded with sweet squash and crisp, bitter Brussels sprout leaves. Next, we tasted the spiraled strigoli pasta with plentiful seafood. It was creamy but also fragrant with lemons and brine from the sea. I had the scallops, which sat on a bed of sweet corn and earthy peas. Each bite was buttery and better than the last, as the sweetness of each element melded with one another. For dessert, we devoured the sticky toffee pudding with ginger gelato that came with the prix fixe meal. Initially, we were not impressed– it was not sweet or particularly interesting. But in the end it was addicting and tickled our sweet-tooth. I can not wait to go again for an oyster meal or a burger deal.
My colleague and his wife had their wedding reception here this past summer. The venue/event space was spacious and beautiful. There are stunning views of Lower Manhattan and the bay! The staff here are very warm and friendly!
For the meal, we had the following:
– First Course: Heirloom tomato, burrata cheese, olive oil, and microgreens – I really liked this because it was very simple, yet delightful too!
– Entree: There was a choice between roasted chicken or beef tenderloin. I chose the beef tenderloin with bordelaise sauce, sauteed greens, and truffle potatoes. The beef tenderloin was moist, savory, and on point! Everything really came together
– Wedding Cake (vanilla cake with espresso mousse filling, and raspberry sauce) – the cake was pretty good and moist, but a little too sweet in my opinion.
Overall, my boyfriend and I really enjoyed the reception, service, and views here! I hope many more friends consider having their wedding at this venue because I'd like to come back for the beautiful view of Manhattan.
Update on Weekend Brunch:
Good: all the dishes ordered were quite good sans one or two. We went to celebrate my husband's bday with a group of friends. Group ordered a variety of drinks from beer to strawberry mint lemonade. I didn't try any of the drinks but none of my friends really enjoyed them. So skip the teas and stick to beer or coffee.
Brunch entrees ordered:
-Crab Cake, fried egg with grainy mustard vinaigrette
– Goat cheese, spinach, potato frittata
– Salmon Burger with a side of French fries
– Scallop Burger with a side of French fries
– Fish and chips
– Omelette with gruyere, mushrooms and caramelized onions
Sides: Fried Green Beans with spicy aioli.
The most liked entrees were the frittata and the crab cake. The crab cake was pretty big one a bed of grainy mustard vinaigrette and sauce gribiche, topped with the perfect fried egg and greens.
The frittata was sumptuous as well. The scallop burger was a decent sized scallop patty with potatoes and some herbs served inside a brioche bun with corn mayo. My friend requested it without the bacon and seemed to enjoy her dish. My deism who ordered the salmon burger didn't have any complains either with his dish.
Bad: The least successful dishes on the table were the omelette, which was under seasoned and the fish and chips. The fish was not crispy, was greasy and the chips were overdone, leaving a bitter aftertaste.
Ugly: nothing
The two hostesses were pleasant this time around, which was a welcome change.
Verdict: Maritime Parc is a fantastic place with good food and great location not only for special evenings or occasions, but for meeting friends for brunch as well 🙂
This pretty much sums it up. Great view of the water and city, great venue, decent food, shaky service, overpriced.
Food was OK. We did the chef's tasting menu for $85pp. Not a bad price. The fish plates were very fishy and probably the worst plates of the tasting. The gnudi and risotto (first two plates) were by far the most unique and most flavorful. For dessert, you can choose anything off their regular menu.
Now let's move on the service, because I have A LOT to say about this topic. The service from this wait staff is probably one of the worst I have ever experienced in my life. When the hostess brought us to our table outdoors, one chair was literally touching another which someone was already sitting. Clearly, the tables were super close. I'm like.. "do you mind moving our table a little further away. there's plenty of space." Damn, I'm not about to sit on top of another person.
Next, no one introduces themselves and it's confusing to under who's your waiter and who are the food runners. Luckily, we got our drinks and our orders taken in a timely manner. The food from the tastings came out in about 15minutes intervals, which was enough time for you to enjoy the current plate and digest some prior to the arrival of the next dish. No one explained the dish when they placed it on the table. They're like, "oh here, enjoy." I'm like.. what the fuck am I eating? So we had the tasting menu pdf file on the phone to look at the description.
Let's move on to the water boy. HE IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!! Boyfriend's water glass was already almost at the top. But he still took the water glass and poured until it overflowed onto the table, onto boyfriend's lap. Then water boy proceeds to pour the extra water BACK INTO THE PITCHER!! I'm like.. OMG… now his backwash is going to be in the pitcher for everybody else to drink. Water boy also didn't wipe up all water he accidentally poured on the table. He simply WALKED AWAY. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!!! Then at the end of dinner, I'm still eating my dessert, water boy goes "do you want more water." We said no, and then he takes our glasses off the table. Hahaha. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Water glasses should always be the last thing to leave the table. In addition, no one clears plates and no one seems to pay enough attention to want to do so. I helped stack the plates up, and we called them over to clear the table.
Overall, nice location, mediocre food, horrible service. Valet parking needs help too because they didn't know how to start boyfriend's car. Probably wont' be back.
