I mean, the food is decent if you work here and don't want to leave the building… and they have what you want in stock… and they're open. It's almost like taking a gamble when you come here to see if they have what you want that day – I think they need to do a little work on inventory management. They're quite popular for their breakfast, and very popular for their salads at lunch time. I tend to only go for breakfast now due to the fact that my co-worker found a live caterpillar in her salad. I understand that salad is natural and most ingredients are grown from the earth, but the cleaning process beforehand should be more thorough than to allow a living caterpillar through.
This is take-out only, there's no seating. If you want a sit-down meal, you go next door to their regular restaurant (just Markers). I can't give them one star because it is convenient and they do have some decent food options. That's about all there is to say.
Marker's Express offers up possibly the most maddeningly inconsistent lunch option in the Exchange Place neighborhood (yes…that includes the food trucks parked on Washington).
I've gotten into the habit of alternating between these guys and Hudson Grill for a salad every Friday. Marker's Express doesn't skimp on size when it comes to their premium salads: a choice of romaine or field greens with 5 mix-ins (standard salad bar options like bell peppers, onions, carrots, et al), a premium ingredient (a couple different cheeses, roasted red peppers, double-smoked bacon…), and a protein (fried/grilled/blackened chicken, salmon, falafel…) will come to you in a plastic container crammed so tightly you half-expect the salad to explode upon opening.
The selection is hit or miss, and likely depends on when you're able to get there. The lunch rush will keep certain items out of circulation and getting your order in around 2pm is a gamble, with some basics (like carrots. Seriously, carrots) gone for the day. The food is likewise not always a guarantee, though good more often than not (and I've got a serious yen at times for their jalapeno cilantro dressing).
Even the service can be baffling: On three separate trips, you could be told that your salad is ready to pick up, that your salad is being held by the cashier, and that you can't pick up at Marker's Express, all orders must be picked up at the hostess desk at Marker's next door.
All in all, it's still a go-to for myself and others in the office.
A possible lunch option, very fast service but meh on the actual food.
They charge too much for a salad if you add more than one 'premium' topping so if you get chicken you can't get avocados (one example). And they no longer have shrimp! So disappointing. The quality of the ingredients are decent but I just don't like the price for what it is. Much better and cheaper salad options in the area (Hudson Green Market). Their wraps and sandwiches are pre-made and on display (not a fan of stuff being left out) and they just hear it up when you pick one. The lettuce/greens are soggy and a little old looking and they don't have that much filling in their wraps, just a lot of wrap that I ended up throwing out. They have sandwiches and pre-made salad and soup and other stuff too but I was to turned off by their wrap to try anything else since it was all out on display and not freshly made but that's what gives them the speed. So if you're looking for something quick then this would be an option but I'm a princess and prefer my food fresh (or at least be able to fool me into thinking it is) so I'm not a huge fan of this place.
If you work in Harborside Plazas 1 through 3, you know how few options there are in the area for breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately, this is one of them.
You want breakfast here? You better come before 9:30am and hope they're still serving. This place randomly decides each day when it's going to stop serving breakfast. It could be 9:15, it could be 9:45. Your guess is as good as mine.
It is typical grab your food and run type of place. Set up like a cafteria to select you food where they have various stations to select what you feel like having. They do iffer fresh made burgers, design your own salads and sandwich/panini station.
Price is as you would expect for the area, best part is the design your own salad which is very popular. Service is for the most part friendly but sometimes it seems that they don't even acknowledge your presence especially if the person who is away from their station, the rest even though are not busy is not going to help you.
I prefer the morning crew more as they seem more active. Breakfast is really good if you are into fresh baked muffins on premise and the farina.
I agree halfway with some of the people on here, the lady making the salads usually always has a stick up her butt. just super mean for no reason, when they run out of an ingredient that I ask for, she makes a point to add a bitchy comment about it like one time i asked for crispy chicken and she was like "NO! If you want crispy chicken you should have come here earlier!". however, everyone else who works there, is suuuper nice. I actually think the food is good, I work in the building so i'm grading this against all the other lunch options in the area.
