“Although I can't speak about the karaoke rooms, I'd say the look of the establishment is modern minimalist chic.”

“As some yelpers mention the decor is a little played out and worn, but the soju is amazing, so who cares?”

  1. Cool vibes at Maru.

Visited twice, both times at around 11:30PM on Saturday. The line to get in the club moved quickly, so get there before 1AM if you want to avoid a long wait. Also, as previous reviewers have alluded to… wearing shorts will not get in. *Cliff i see you wit the backpack tho

The entrance to the club is not on street level, so you have to take the stairs or elevator up. The club itself is on two floors, with the first floor serving as a dance floor. Not much dancing happens on the second floor, mostly tables, a bar, and people standing around.

The music is ok, the crowd is predominantly Asian, and the drinks are priced like most other clubs in the city ($15-$18) for a cocktail. Great spot for a night out with friends.

  2. I came here for a work party this week.  We had a private room and sang songs terribly for several hours.  It is a great spot tucked away on the 5th floor of a crummy building in K-Town.  It all added to the ambiance.  The service was very good in our room and at the bar.

The rooms are pretty spacious and our room had a massive TV on one wall and a smaller TV on the opposite wall.  There were also plenty of places to sit and chill while me and my colleagues made fools of ourselves.  Outside the rooms, there is a large bar area with plenty of seating.  On the night we were there, there was a DJ spinning pop-centric electronic and hip hop.

My one complaint is that the restrooms fit one person.  This seems a bit strange given how big the place is.

  3. I was really tipsy/drunk to remember anything much but I'm going to try to write down as much as I can remember. It had a cool design and lighting (purple, blue and pink maybe it can change to other colors, who knows). We sat in the lounge on the left after you step out of the elevator and enter. There were a few steps up and then a few steps down. I remember seeing a big bell over a table and a group later sat there and I witness a woman hitting her head on it and it shook the whole bell (must've been a hard hit). We ordered a pitcher of the red sangria and a pitcher of the white sangria. I barely drank mine, please remember I was already tipsy and lying on their comfy couches. I only tried the red sangria and it was really sweet and a bit watered down. Some of us checked in and it says on Yelp, you can get one hour of free karaoke, but according to them, they only have that on weekdays (don't know if that's true). I remember it being quite pricey, split between seven people, it was $18 each. We added tips because the bill didn't have it included.

I read a review the next day saying they don't write on the receipt that they already included tips. I don't know if that's true, but it felt kind of expensive and if they really do that, that is messed up. I guess you pay a lot for the environment and comfy seats.

  4. I met up with a few friends who were having dinner In K town and they recommended this place. It's sort of weird because you have to go into a building then up to the third floor. Once you finally get up there you show your ID and head inside.
I loved the place the minute I walked in, it's modern and the music was awesome all night.
They have two floors, one is the main floor where everyone is dancing, some vip tables and a very crowded bar.
Upstairs it's more like a lounge with a bar and some sofas to sit.
Also that's where the karaoke rooms are. We spend some time on the top floor since it was easier to get drinks but soon after head down since that's where all the action was.

  5. A pretty decent club with selections of wines and cocktails; also cute names attached. We came in as a party of five and had a round table of cocktail first followed by shots. Our waiter messed up with our drinks at first but eventually everyone got what they wanted. We had a pretty relaxed night.

It was, on the other hand, a bit unorganized – same as other Korean town clubs, which were always filled with crowds on Friday nights. And be prepared with ignorance from the waiter/waitress.

In general a nice place for some casual type of hang-outs.

  6. Celebrated my birthday here and loved it! We did an hour of karaoke and got the soju (watermelon and lychee) and nachos special. Even though the serving was small (2 small flasks) we really enjoyed the lychee soju. The best part was the staff gave our group of 7 free champagne with strawberries and a little cake with a candle!

  7. This lounge bar is probably one of the best experience I've had with clubbing in NYC in general. You got the VIP lounge area and the dance floor on the 3rd floor and a 4th floor to get away from the loud music.

Ever heard of Dark Heineken? Found out they exist at this bar. My group also got bottle service here in the VIP section. Very nice section of the room with a bell over the middle table where we got our table. I worried someone would bump their head against it, but no one was that drunk to do that thankfully.

The staff and bouncer do their jobs professionally compared to a lot of places in the city surprisingly.

I didn't get to try their food and from reading other reviews, I wish I didn't have a huge dinner before coming here.

If you check in here, you get a free one hour karaoke session.

  8. Just swing by this evening and what a fkin nightmare!!! First off. We have been hanging it in ktown all day and decided to grab one before heading out. Guess what, we were told that we can't come in because the hubs is wearing shorts (me too, but I'm a gal I guess???) But the group in front of us had 2 guys wearing shorts (1 wearing flip flop) and another guy wearing sweat pants and another wearing wife beater!! But it's ok for them to go in and drink!! Hhhnmmmm

Then because I pointed that out, i was told we can go there for 30mins… I needed to pee, so f it… we got a corona (on menu was $6) and Stella (on menu was $7 or $8), we gave the new bartender $20 and got $2 back…. mathematically, didn't make sense!!!! So no tip lady!!! Also, the bartender is new as another bartender is teaching her how to make drinks and pour etc… my god, do this during the day or prep??? Who teaches another. Bartender during business hours?? And seriously there were less than 5 ppl at the bar at 8pm on a Saturday, even if we are wearing shorts but willing to buy your overpriced beer, don't bitch about it!!! Few bucks is better than no bucks!! Sighh no more Maru for us !!!
