  1. Chicken Tikka Masala – 4 out of 5 but needs to boast more heat.  Although, the sauce does have a very nice bit of sweetness.

Naan is a bit thick but i like the variety – chili, garlic and sweet are all available.

Yogurt is incredible, the best that ive had at an Indian Restaurant.

    Delivery is always fast!

  2. I been wanting to try this place for awhile and since I was in the mood for Indian food I came here with a friend. To be honest I only eat about three things but I feel that makes me an expert since I always order the same thing lol
I started with the beef samosa and crab cake, both were pretty good.
Then I ordered my to go dish every time I'm at an Indian restaurant chicken tikka masala. I don't like it super spicy but this one was way too sweet.
The portions are a good size and the service was excellent.

  3. Very satisfied with my experience. I got delivery and the estimated time was an hour. It came in a half hour!

Food was hot, good and my order was correct.

I got kashmiri and naan. About $15. The naan was OK, kind of sweet? the curry was amazing. Lamb chunks were small, but that was fine. I really enjoyed it. Great flavors and I got two meals out of it. I will be trying the korma next.

  4. Can't really beat a $7+change lunch. This place would never cut it in midtown manhattan, but in the barren wasteland that is this area of Woodside, this is just about as good as it gets. I like that their lunch special goes until 3pm during the week. Perfect for those of that are indecisive or just get tied up with work during the day. The special is a pretty good amount of food, although why the curry is packaged to go in a totally not heat-proof plastic container is beyond me. It's worth noting they have a $15 credit card minimum.

  5. A tiny little place in woodside locality for Indian food. One reason you shud try their food is their bread. They serve some amazing Naan breads out of which Chili Naan is a bomb (quite literally). Garlic Naan is also quite gud. The gravies are a bit on the sweeter side but do not lack taste. I liked Vegetable Makhani over Kadhai Paneer. The later was a bit too oily and lacked sauce. Overall a gud place for a quiet Indian meal.

  6. I like Masala better than any other Indian restaurant within walking distance – and there are A LOT. The fact that I can even form a preference given the hot competition? 5 stars, baby!

A big part of that is reliability. By now, I've gone through a chunk of the menu's vegetarian section – everything is fresh, served at burn-your-tongue temperatures. They make one of my favorite saag paneers ever, and it's the only thing I order here anymore: creamy but less pulverized than most, with big soft pieces of paneer. (The chana sang – with chickpeas instead of cheese – is just as good.)

The vegetarian dishes are, by and large, superior to the meat ones. Tandoori chicken was standard, the lamb vindaloo was a bit dry. It's also the only thing here that could be considered spicy.

While the curries and samosas survive delivery well, ordering in is a huge disservice to the freshly baked breads. Don't miss the naan coming to your table hot from the tandoor – crisp outside, soft and steaming inside. The poori is fantastic too, rising in a dome so you can crack it open at the top like a creme brulee, but arrives at your doorstep soggy and greasy.

Nothing against the older joints in Jackson Heights, but Masala is much nicer-looking inside than "another Indian takeaway." Service is never anything less than perfectly friendly and polite. Be forewarned that delivery amounts/prices vary from eat-in (for delivery, one order of naan = two enormous slabs; the monster samosas also come two to an order).

  7. I am no expert on Indian food, but I love this place. My roommate from pastry school (who prides herself on knowledge of Indian food), my husband, and I have eaten at Masala twice so far. We always order a variation of appetizers, bread, and entrees. The food is always good, the service is excellent, the prices are very fair, and the bathroom is CLEAN!

My favorite might be the lamb tikki Masala. My husband got lamb chops and they were done very nicely with a technique I have never seen. I felt that dish might have been the best value for how much food he got and the price. The chicken chili is fantastic. The spicy dishes are spicy, but filled with flavor. Excellent with a drizzle of tamarind sauce. Oh yea!

The naan is wonderful and is great the next day. We got the whole bread basket. Very nice.

  8. Overall the food was just OK, not really distinct flavor that stuck out. Towards the end, everything ended up just salty.

    Meat platter
samosa was OK. I've never had ground beef samosa before. It needed some vegetables or potatoes along in the stuffing. It was more like an empanda without the vegetables.
chicken kabob was great. It had a charred flavor but very moist on the inside.
meat stick- not sure what to call it but it was very flavorful and tender.
beef kabob- very tough, not that much seasoning.

Mulligatawny soup- this was my first time trying this type of soup. I was expecting more things to be in it but it was just broth. It had a nice herbal, spice taste but it got watery towards the end. I wish the there were more of the lentil puree which I did not taste until towards the end.

Vegetable birayani- the rice was very well cooked, had some herbs but no distinct flavor.

Chicken Shabjee- it had a lentil gravy base. The chicken was very tender but it was lacking something. Perhaps more herbs or spiciness.
