  1. I knew this place existed but was unaware of the fact that they sold ice cream.

Most ice cream shops have an extensive list of different kinds of flavors but these are usually hard ice cream. This place on the other hand, doesn't have many flavors to choose from BUT the plus here is that of the four or five flavors they have they are all soft serve. You can't beat that man. Also, they have boba topping which is amazing!

I ordered the Madagascar Vanilla  (because I was feeling lame) on a waffle cone with boba. The soft serve was oh so creamy and thick just the way soft serve is supposed to be. However, IMO I think it needed more vanilla flavor and it should be a tad bit sweeter; though I think the sugar may make the consistency less thick.

My boyfriend had the waffle cup which consisted of three flavors and topped it with boba. His flavors consisted of Madagascar Vanilla, Black Sesame and a seasonal Cherry flavor. The Black Sesame was to die for definitely the best one. I recently became a fan of BS in general and I'm in love with this soft serve. The consistency wasn't as thick as the vanilla but the sweetness and actual flavor of the BS was on point. Next time I return I'll probably get the waffle cup with BS, vanilla and boba since it's really the best items on the menu.

Their seasonal cherry was also very good. I happen to be one of those weird people that don't like cherry all too much. However, the cherry flavor of this ice cream was not too acidic and wasn't too strong which made me like it a whole lot.

I will definitely be back, perhaps on a day where the lines aren't too crazy and stick with the BS. I hope that they add other flavors to their menu as it is much needed and perhaps implement a system where they don't transfer orders on post-it note. In any case, four stars for Matcha.

  2. *Ice cream review only.

Their black sesame soft serve ice cream gives me LIFE. I think the black sesame flavor may be an acquired taste, but if you're a fan of those dessert sesame balls at Asian restaurants or buffets, this ice cream is for you.

My boyfriend likes their matcha tea soft serve too, their staff is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

Parking and long lines are problems you may encounter on weekends because the Mitsuwa Marketplace in general is really popular, but I've always thought the line at Matcha Love was worth it because I've yet to find a place that serves better black sesame ice cream!

  3. Matcha green tea – healthier and or tastier? I like it among other teas and jasmine will make it irrestible as it smells good. I drink matcha green tea regularly and I'm glad that there is a food stand inside the supermarket. And add the bubbles – good to go!

  4. The soft serve here is the best I've ever had.

$3.25 for a small or $4.25 for a large (cup of cone): green tea, black sesame, or hojicha.
Get the large cone, you won't regret it.

You can also do a swirl (I'm pretty sure). I love doing green tea and hojicha (like a less sweet green tea).

  5. "Employees don't know how to talk s**t about customers discreetly."

Great taste, everything else is a freaking mess.

The matcha flavored ice cream and drinks alone would definitely give this place a 4, but everything else is a mess.  There needs to be some sort of system of ringing up orders than their post it notes, or better training for some of the employees.  3 out of 5 times they get my order wrong.  Whenever I see someone tell the employees a mistake was made, they just look at you with a deer in the headlights stare.  I also overheard the jacked bubble tea guy trash talk a customer who bought her wrong order to him twice.

We are given receipts with order numbers on them, but they don't use them.  So on busy days, people who don't understand the concept of a line cut in front of people and claim orders of people ahead of them on line.  Then the people who were behind the ones who cut accidentally, also get confused about the line and the cycle continues.  This also leads to more wrong orders.

The last time I was here, the matcha ice cream machine wasn't working.  I saw an employee test it out by pulling froyo out through the tube, then putting that same froyo back into the tub and recycling it.  Also, instead of telling everyone on line that the matcha wouldn't be ready for 20 mins, they just talk about it among themselves until someone on line overheard them and told everyone the news.

  6. Tea review. Grabbed a cup of green tea that definitely tasted like green tea leaves and no artificial flavor.

  7. Much love to Matcha love!

I've had a growing enjoyment of matcha flavor, but as a soft serve? I was intrigued and delighted! And like a traditional soft serve, you can get a swirl! So I got it with black sesame which I have never had before, but they were both great and great together. How can anyone go back to chocolate and vanilla after this?!

So it's reasonable priced, great flavors, nice soft easily scoopable texture, and I can pay with a credit card. This place is amazing. Please franchise and expand your stores. I would much prefer Matcha Love as often as I see Carvel or Basken Robins, etc. Maybe it's too niche, but I was really happy after this ice cream and it's a must try if you come to Mitsuwa.

  8. Love this place so much and wish they had this in NYC! I was torn between the matcha swirl and the yuzu swirl, but the cashier persuaded me by saying that the yuzu flavor is seasonal, while they always have the matcha. Obviously, I chose the yuzu and I have absolutely no regrets! After my tempura rice bowl lunch, this was the most refreshing and light dessert! They have so much matcha and Japanese treats and I can't wait to come back and try more! Tip: they accept credit card with no minimum purchase (one of the few food vendors that isn't cash only!)
