Matthews Diner & Pancake House

“I may be biased here since I grew up in Bergenfield, but now that I'm older, I can appreciate a good breakfast spot.”

“Their grilled chicken sandwiches from the lunch menu are great but they could be a little dry at times.”

“I've had a lot of their food: Panini's, wraps, burgers, apps, omelettes, pancakes, etc. I've never had a complaint about anything.”

  1. Stopped by for lunch for a BLT. I always get nostalgic when coming here…not only for the food but Matthew's has been here literally forever…since Greeks started coming to America!

  2. My experience was OK not great or horrible either. My potato pancakes were pretty good they were different so that was a plus. They were stuffed with parsley, potatoes & onions, with 2 options available, short stack or regular. The apple sauce wasn't good and the sausage looked nasty so I didn't even try it at all.

Usually kids meals are cheap, but not here, it was $7.95 for any meal, while mine was $7.75. The chicken tenders were not fresh, they were frozen and undesirable, but the fries were good! French toast were descent but on the sweet side not sure why but they were edible.

Just looking around seeing the food coming out some of it you can tell it was frozen such as the sausage, vegetables & chicken tenders, but for what they do cook its not bad. Service was descent and food came out in a fashionable time. Would I crave this place? No, never but if I'm in the area and nothing else is opened then yes.

  3. Matthews can either be a hit or miss. You can go there and get a pleasant employee and good food or you can go there and get someone in a terrible mood with mediocre food, vice versa. Don't get me wrong I enjoy coming here its just those off nights that the service isn't really up to par.

  4. Good breakfast spot. They have all the main stays. I like how its small and has a homey feel to it. Most diners are big and mundane but this place is run by a nice family and when you walk in you will always get a nice warm "Good morning!"

Service is great. Coffee and water refills are always on point. The speed is just right. Fast enough to please your growling stomach but still given enough time to relax and enjoy those lazy Sundays.

  5. Came here for breakfast on a Thursday late morning.

Ordered the Italian omelette which was huge. There was a lot of sausages and vegetables in my omelette which were good but some how it didn't give any flavor to the eggs. The home fries were alright after you put salt and pepper on them.

The service was eh. Was hard for me to catch the waitress to get another glass of water or more napkins.

Would deff try this place one more time.
