  1. Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate!
Can I put chocolate on everything? I'm still trying to figure out how I can eat more desserts and not gain any weight.

When I was in NYC I stumbled upon this place. Thank god I did because it had my name written all over it! Whoever said dessert isn't a good option for dinner? Who made that rule…and aren't rules meant to be broken?

They had dessert, dessert and more dessert! Watch out dessert lovers, Max Brenner is going to make decision making hard for you! Their dessert menu was incredible and original. You're not going to find regular old dessert here.

To start they have all different kinds of hot chocolates:
    Mexican spice
    Swiss whipped
    Marshmallow
    Italian thick
    Peanut Butter
    Hazelnut
    Mocha
    Licorice

They have a bunch of different milkshakes:
    The Salted Caramel
    Chocolate Hazelnut
    Cookieshake
    Peanut Butter Turtle Choctail
    Strawberry White Chocolate
    Pure Chocolate Granite

If you like crepes they have
    -Banana Hazelnut
    -Strawberry Hazelnut
    -Peanut butter and Banana Chocolate
    -Smore's

Or maybe you like waffles instead…
    -Banana split
    -Tutti-frutti
    -Dark Chocolate Covered Cherry
    -Munchies waffles
    -Sugar

They also have several Fondues to choose from!

If you don't like milkshakes, waffles, fondues, or crepes, don't worry there are still other options for you! You can build your own cake, frost it, and decorate it. If you like to dirty other people's kitchens  and not your own, this is a great option. After you're done you can leave and not worry about cleaning a thing!

We decide to order the Chocolate Chunks Pizza which had milk and white chocolate chunks with a choice of two toppings: Bananas, Peanut Butter, roasted marshmallows or hazelnut bits. We got marshmallows because they're the best of course.

If you still don't see anything you like did I mention they unique cocktails that no one can resist:
    -Chocolate martini
    -Max's White Russian
    -Mocha Madness
    -Intoxi cake

This place is a little pricey and the wait is sooooo long. Expect an hour wait minimum if you don't have a reservation. Also seating can be cramped when they're busy and you might be seated pretty close to someone.

This place is pricey and the dinner menu food options come in small portions. I ordered a sandwich and fries for $20 and the portions were pretty small.
I say skip the regular food and just come for dessert, it will be worth the long wait! Don't forget to look at their cute souvenirs and products!

They have locations in Boston, New York, Philadelphia… Max Brenner please come to LA!

  2. I met up with a friend here yesterday and it was quite a delight!

As soon as we arrived we walked in to be greeted with the ambiance of Chocolate in the air! It smelled so heavenly that it definitely made me want to order dessert. I'm definitely not the one to order dessert but I made sure to leave room for it. It's a chocolate themed restaurant so everything had  chocolate infused in their food one way or another. It's such a unique restaurant and it infuses it in such a tasteful way that it's not too much or too out of place!

The price is reasonable. Everything is $20 or less and the staff is super friendly!! Everyone is kind and super helpful! I didn't feel rushed at all! They let us take our time and ask all the questions in the world.

The food is incredible!!! I've never had anything like it. If you have a sweet tooth this is the place to check out!!

  3. It was 10:20 am on a Thursday morning in the summer and we  just needed a quick bite before hitting a matinee at AMC theater on 19th St.

We were seated immediately without a reservation. Our order was simple:

Hash Browns: seriously the best I've ever had! Cooked to well seasoned perfection with bacon bits. Didn't need anything extra.

Side of avocado: this came neatly sliced, looked like it was the entire avocado so it was big enough to share with my sister. Ripe and tasty but not brown at all.

Side of crispy bacon: now everyone has their bacon preferences, mine is crispy, but not burnt or oily or fatty. This bacon was perfect. 4 slices. Again, my sister and I shared this too.

We also had a large capuccino and a large mocha with dark chocolate. Also very good but totally eclipsed by the out of this world sides.

If their sides are this good, I'll definitely have to be back to try a full breakfast!

  4. I really wanted to like this place. Sadly I left disappointment. This is an over hyped place.

This restaurant needs to turn on the air conditioner! My friend and I were so uncomfortably hot.

He ordered an omelette, I ordered the white chocolate french toast and we shared half of a chocolate pizza. We also got frozen lemonade and virgin pina colada.

Omelette: Tasty but not worth $17. Comes with potatoes, biscuit and chocolate sauce.

White chocolate French toast: Taste good but not worth $15. French toast can easily be made at home and the white chocolate was nothing to be hyped up about. French toast itself was nothing special.

Chocolate pizza: Nutella on bread. Your choice of two toppings. We chose marshmallows and banana. The nutella overpowered all the toppings, making the pizza too overwhelming. $9.50

Frozen lemonade: Great but a bit too sour ($4.25).

Pina colada: Best thing I ordered today. Loved it but not sure if its worth $8.

Max Brenner's chocolate tastes like melted Hershey's chocolate. I was hoping for some special tasting chocolate, which is far from what we got. If you want the same experience just stay home, melt a Hershey's chocolate bar and then dip whatever you want into the melted chocolate. If you so happened to like the chocolate anyway, there is a gift shop in front of the restaurant where you can purchase boxed chocolate. They also have chocolate pizza to go.

Our bill came out to about $60. I wish I spent my money elsewhere. On the bright side we got good service.

  5. Honestly, this franchise is not as good as it is hyped up to be. The quality of the food and alcohol beverages is average, forgettable and overpriced. When I went, they were so overcrowded. The chocolate gifts were pretty to look at but definitely overpriced.

  6. My husband and I had dessert at Max Brenner Chocolate Bar.  We split a chocolate chunks pizza with hazelnut and PB.  It was good, but not great, and we thought the place was overpriced.  My husband ordered a scoop of ice cream and got about a thimble-full, seriously, little more than a tablespoon.  Even though I'm a chocolate lover, I wouldn't recommend this place or go back.  Go to Levain Bakery on the Upper West Side instead.  That was my favorite.

  7. My rating is intended for the desserts as we did not sample any of their entrees, yet.

We each had a variety if different things. Most I cannot name but describe.

I had the smores ice cream. And it was phenomenal. Toasted marshmallows with pour-yourself-white chocolate on top, it created this hot meets cold world in your mouth. Its rather large to indulge in solo, I suggest for 2. Unless you can put down.

The other folks included hot granola with chocolate fondant, brownie cake with melted chocolate pour over, and a Nutella crepe. All which they were moaning over how delish each were.

Also had the chocolate beer, its light and not overwhelming sweet IMO.

Ill definitely be back for main courses–'their burgers were gigantic ! And their breakfast…well just Google or check Instagram and you'll know why.

  8. It really pains me to write this review because I came here with such high hopes. I am a chocolate fanatic and love trying new dessert places. I came here after hearing lots of good things and was eager to try some pure, chocolate.

    Positive Feedback
    – The service was good, my waiter was friendly and quick.
    – The prices were reasonable.
    – The gift shop was a nice touch (although it lacked really appealing items)

    Not So Pleased Feedback

    – The restaurant was dull. Looked like a diner, and everyone was cramped together. Not what you would expect in a chocolate bar.
    – The menu was dull. The actual food section was lacking options that really jumped out at me.
    – The chocolate wasn't so good. This was the worst part of the disappointment. The chocolate was not that great and came cold in my fondue.
    – The treats that came with the fondue were gross. The brownies were store bought, and everything tasted plain. Only good thing were that you could roast your own marshmellows.

Sorry, Max Brenner. I tried. But I will not be returning again. I recommend trying the Melting Pot for anyone searching for good fondue.
