Who doesn't love going back in time to feast in the realm of knights, and princesses, and kings, and light up swords, and magical plastic money cards?!?!? Lets be honest they are probably butchering the Spanish medieval times (though they say the kingdoms are historically based off that time) but it is always a fun. You can drink your spirits while being entertained by terrible acting and awful stunts, but the food is pretty good and overall it is always an entertaining KNIGHT (see what I did there) The garlic bread is tasty and the chicken is juicy. I also enjoyed the pastry of the realm (apple turnover). A fun way to do something a little different for a night out.
HEAR YE, HEAR YE! I'm an absolute sucker for anything medieval/renaissance-y so when I first had an opportunity to do dinner at Medieval Times in Orlando I jumped on it. Now I've come to their New Jersey castle two times and am coming here for my 3rd time tomorrow night (I'm hardcore, lol).
One thing I would definitely advise is to never pay full price for tickets here. Full price is like $60-something but there are so many coupons in hotel booklets, their Facebook & Twitter accounts, email list, discount codes via Google search and even on the section on their website labeled "special promotions".
Medieval Times is for the super nerdy and they really go all out – if you don't like cheesy stuff then you might hate it here, but if you do, then you'll looooove it…like moi. My first time here with my fiancé, sister and mom we were assigned the red knight (the kingdom of Perelada), but I was kind of a traitor and rooting for the green kingdom's knight. He was significantly better looking and much more skilled with his jousting sword thingamabob. The "East Coast" knight ended up winning. My second time was a work trip I organized and I made a request for our company color – team blue :).
The food here isn't insanely fancy, but it's pretty darn good, I mean I've definitely had worse. The menu is pretty much the same for everyone and really sucks if you're a vegetarian. I mean, if you don't eat meat then you're basically going home hungry unless you stock up on garlic bread, lol.
The menu includes soup, roasted chicken legs (huge ones at that! VERY well seasoned and with lots of lemon juice), saucy ribs, garlic bread (this was by far the best part of the meal!), dessert and coffee. Your ticket includes all the food and a Pepsi or Sprite.
Adult libations are sold separately – but are also aplenty! Cocktails are about $10-12 and dependent on which souvenir glass you'd like them to pour it in. I chose a tall blue metallic tulip glass and my boyfriend chose a large glass beer stein type mug. I think there was also an option to get your cocktails in a plain disposable plastic cup…but yeah, we wanted souvenir glasses to take home.
My sweetheart also purchased a wooden sword which we used to knight each other and to root for our knight and now I bring it with us everytime we go.
Knights asides, there was also an entertaining king/princess storyline, a falcon show, an awesome horses show (I hope all the animals are well treated -_-) and an overarching evil knight situation…
SPOILER ALERT: The evil knight was defeated, the princess was found safe & sound, all the animals were overjoyed and everything ended up happily ever after, lol.
I've had a great time every time – if you haven't been, definitely do it!
This place brings back sweet memories. Came here as a kid for a school trip and loved it. This time I was back as an adult. Brought the boyfriend because he had never been to medieval times. We were crowned the color of our knight at the entrance. Walked in and bam there were bars along the wall and souviner shops. People with opposing team crowns all decked out in glowsticks and etc. The doors finally opened amd we entered into the arena. As we sat down, we were offered drinks and was served a feast. There were no utensils, we ate like true lords and nobles. Little ole me thought the food was delicious at the time but boy was I wrong. At that time my taste buds haven't fully developed yet. I soon realized the meal was basically Campbell's tomato bisque, Texas garlic toast, half rotisserie chicken with half a potato wedge and corn on cob, apple pie pastry and soda/coffee. Oh wells, at least it was more enjoyable the fact that our team won. Go Black & White knight! Let me tell you, there sure was some competitiveness going on. It was hilarious watching the crowd of little kids going bonkers. I took part in cheering as well. If you're of age, down a frozen cocktail/beverage and the show will be even more enioyable. Get suckered into buying those team streamers and just let loose. Obviously, the show was rigged and rehearsed but I still enjoyed every moment of it. To be honest it wasn't all about the food. The positive energy and excitement in the whole arena was what made the experience.
Like everyone else, I went here as part of a birthday group. I will admit, if there hadn't been a coupon code for $20.00 off and I wasn't going with a group I would have been a bit reluctant. With coupon I think it was around $45.00. But secretly, I've always kind of wanted to go to Medieval times. It's pretty much what you would expect if you have seen the movie Cable Guy. A bunch of people in an arena getting fed mediocre food (soup, a chicken leg, some corn, half a potato, and an apple turnover) watching a staged jousting tournament. A hawk or some kind of majestic bird is released and flies around. Everyone ooohs and aahhs. The show itself was lengthy and surprisingly entertaining. The audience got pretty into it, which was fun. I was surprised a bit by the crowd – I expected tons of kids and families, but it was more people in their twenties and thirties and everyone's birthday. (though we did pick the later show for that reason). There was a decent amount of food, and they brought it out efficiently. The food was not great, but it was about what I'd expected. Not sure I'm a fan of no silverware. I get that it's supposed to feel more medieval that way (and they save lots of time and $ by not doing those dishes), but as another in our group pointed out "I'm pretty sure in the actual medieval times they did have silverware of some sort". But anyway…Most of the workers there seemed to like their jobs and were friendly. Except for the drink waitress. somehow our row got missed and when she did finally get there she wasn't the least bit apologetic, she came across like it was a huge chore to take our order. Beers were $8.00. At the end they pass around a thing that says no gratuity was added in the price, implying you should tip. I feel like they should mention this on the website (it's possible that they do, but if so not in an obvious fashion). We all had assumed that was part of the ticket price (though I would expect to tip for drinks from the bar. I'm talking about the meal/show). Overall though, it was a pretty fun experience. It's something I need to do only once, maybe twice, in my life, but I am happy to say that I went. It's not a bad way to spend somebody's birthday. Also, General admission tickets are first come first serve, but none of the seats are bad and they try to accommodate groups sitting together. This place must just rake money in. It seats 1300 and was sold out. It's a pretty well oiled machine. Oh, and Medieval Times – if one of your awesome plates went missing, it totally wasn't me. I could see why someone would want one though…Also, our artsy performer friend gave it a ringing endorsement, saying "It's a lot more entertaining than most Broadway shows I've seen, and I see a lot of them."
Horses, falcons, knights, jousting, fight to the death… all while you feast on a (very tasty I must admit) 3 course dinner with your hands!
Food is surprisingly yummy and filling. No fear if you're a vegetarian, they have a veggy option too! On the two occasions I've been here, the service has been excellent. The servers are friendly and continuously "acting" the part (my server kept calling me "my lady" and calling the tomato soup dragon's blood haha).
The alcoholic bevs from the bar are a bit pricier as expected, but they do come in cool souvenir cups! As a recommendation, definitely get here early to get your tickets scanned in to get a good seat (not that any seats are actually terrible)… and to also grab a few drinks from the long bar line and to also check out their cool souvenir shops.
They say this place is great for kids but um, yeah, I'm an adult who went without kids and thoroughly enjoyed myself. In fact, I'm pretty sure I made our section a bit rowdy by continuously starting the "green knight green knight" chant several times during the jousting and battle to the death lol (our knight ended up winning woo!). Unless you're a complete buzz kill, expect to have a fun night and to be entertained!
A great and fun show to go to for all people. You can't miss the castle once you're near it.
To get tickets, I would go only if you can get a deal from the actual website or possibly Groupon. $62.95 for adults if you bought it with no deal. I bought a spring break deal on the website and paid only $36.95 for adults and $29.95 for children. Definitely a money saver.
We bought a Sunday 2 pm show. Once you walk into the castle, you will be given crowns as to which knight you will be rooting for and also your table #.
Before the show starts, you can go shopping for souvenirs and even meet the king himself. Coolest souvenirs are the swords.
Inside the arena, there are no bad views. You feel close the action and you will cheer for your knight. Trust me you will.
They serve you chicken, potato, corn, tomato soup, garlic bread, apple pie and beverages. The food are filling and tastes pretty good. You must eat with your hands like medieval ways.
The show was very entertaining. Lots of action and interaction. My black and white knight did well in the skills competition, but lost in the jousting competition.
Definitely had a blast here. Fantastic place to go with your family and friends. A good group outing.
I've been to Medieval Times once before, but it was way back before I became a Yelper. I recently visited with my girlfriend, her son and her mother during a trip to New Jersey. I must say, it's everything I remembered and more! Going in and getting to your seat is pretty smooth and easy, even though it's usually a large crowd. Servers are always going around to see if you need something from the bar. The bill of fare is typically the Dragon Blood Soup, which is excellent and full of flavor. The chicken is actually very succulent. Dessert and coffee are excellent and the show is action-packed! Medieval Times is great for adults and children alike! You can even take pictures with the knights after the show! That goes over very well with the kids! Highly recommended for an eventful evening if you are looking for something a little bit different and exciting!
We were visiting Jersey so I decided to treat a few friends and family to dinner but I wanted to do something different. I hadn't been here since I was a small boy and I remember how much fun it was then so why not? Well, I was right! The show was fantastic and the energy if the crowd just made it that much better. Watching these majestic horses, I was awestruck and I really appreciated the skill it took for the performers to pull off some of those tricks! By the way, the food was amazing. The portions are huge and the many courses they have planned just keep coming at you throughout the show. I loved it! To make it even better, they offer alcoholic beverages. I recommend the Dragon Slayer which is mango slushie with a shot of Bacardi rum. Delicious. I just had so much fun. It made me feel like a kid again.
