the price value is worth a deal…the food is a hit or miss. scallion pancake was lack luster with barely any flavor due to lack of scallion actually in the pancake. fish ball noodle soup was bland and only the fish ball itself had any flavor. again, for the value it will fill your tummy.
Whenever I go to this place I always get the peanut butter noodle & dumplings. Nothing beats that less than $5 food that makes you so full. That hot sauce & soysauce with ginger taste amazing! They have open kitchen so you'll see how clean it is while they make your order.
Its DELICIOUS & AFFORDABLE!!
Located across from a park. When walking in there were tons of kids in here probably taking a break from playing at the park and grabbing a bite. The prices are cheap here and everything tasted homemade.
The dumplings are very filling, delicious and tasted fresh.
This is the place to go when you just want a cheap, delicious bite of greasy goodness!
I usually get the scallion pancake, fried scallion cake, fried taro cake, and pan fried bun. I LOVE ALL OF THEM! They are just a perfect salty snack for those days when I feel like eating fried food. They are all so oily, but they are so good that the oiliness doesn't matter anymore.
The fried scallion cake (round salty donut things with scallions in them) and fried taro cake usually sell out by afternoon so go early to get them!
These may very well be the best dumplings (for the value, up to this point in my search for the best dumplings anyway) that I've had the opportunity to try in the south eastern portion of Chinatown. As it stands, $1.50 gets you five sizable dumplings; though there are some cheaper options in the area ($1-$1.25 for five, if you look hard enough, which I have), quality and taste are superior here.
How are they superior? Well, consistently sized portions as opposed to sporadically smaller or bigger dumplings in the same serving is much appreciated; also, a well developed crispy skin seems to be accomplished regularly (the past few times I've been here); juicy filling, almost soup dumpling-esque; and the accouterments found on the tables to invariably "customize" your order are legit and not watered down (chili oil and garlicky soy sauce adds just a little bit of extra).
Though pan fried pork and chive dumplings are the #1 menu item (it really is the firstly listed item on the menu), the rest of the menu is quite sizable; from a glance, it looks as if no one item breaks past the $10 price range, which is great if you're looking for cheap lunch options. I've had the opportunity to try the Fuzhou wonton soup and the stir noodles in addition to the dumplings. Both also super solid selections, and quite tasty. The former is loaded with tiny little ribbens of wonton skins over a small morsel of meat, pretty fun to eat actually… definitely going to revisit this at one point. The "stir noodles" are a huge delicious mess. Basically nooldes in some peanut sauce… wear a bib, unless you hate the shirt you're wearing (sorry shirt!).
All in all, this place is worth the trip from FiDi for a cheap, quick, and tasty lunch. You bet your sweet @ss that I'll be back here.
This place feels typically Chinese. Even the prices are Chinese like ;-). We ordered plenty of different dumplings, soups and pancakes. And it was just as tasty as in China itself. Amazing food!!!! And surprisingly cheap 🙂
I'm pretty sure I'll never know the internal politics behind the comings and goings of restaurants in Chinatown. Or if the chefs change. Or if a place gets a lot of buzz and the quality decreases… But I know good dumplings when I have them. And these were pretty good. And compared to a lot of budget dumpling houses, the restaurant was pretty nice. Clean, A/C, TV. Even non-dumpling items like the pork bun and scallion pancake were good.
I'll come back.
This is the go to peanut noodle and wonton (thin skin and little filling -FJ style) joint. I believe it's like $4.50 total for both. They also have amazing fried dumplings 5 for $1.50. For less than $10 you will have a a satisfying and humongous food baby. We come here often for breakfast before we start the day. It's right off East Broadway on Catherine. Add vinegar into the soup cause it comes out bland and its up you the sour level. I throw in some chili paste to spice it up. You will get hooked on this place
