I bought my friend and myself a LivingSocial deal here for a tour and tasting, and it was quite the educational and unique experience!
It started with a tour of the facility lead by the owner, Sergio. He explained the history of Melovino and how mead is made in such an entertaining way, and his love for mead definitely shined through during the tour. After the tour, we were taken into the tasting room where we tasted 6 of their meads and Sergio explained what went into each one, how they got their names, and which foods pair well with them. After the tasting, I bought two bottles of Berry Chic – my favorite.
My best friend and I had such a great time! I signed up for their newsletters, so I'll definitely be returning for one of their events and to buy more of their mead!
Tip: Melovino is located behind a strip mall. Drive to the back of it and you'll find parking spots and a black door with the Melovino logo on it.
I took a tour of Melovino meadary this summer and loved it! It was my first time to try a mead – it definitely has a unique flavor and you can taste honey in it.
We had a groupon for the tour that was honored without any problems. Sergio, the tour guy and the owner, explained the history of this meadary and walked us through the wine pairings when we were tasting meads.
We ended up buying a couple of meads. Overall, great experience!
Came here with a groupon for a mead tasting and we were not disappointed. The owner leads the tasting and you can tell he is very passionate about his craft. The location doesn't look like much from the outside (the entrance is at the back by the garbage) but the inside is nicely done.
Best part was the mead. All that we tasted were great. They are constantly coming up with new flavors as well. I think their mead makes a very unique gift from NJ too!!
Came with friends for a mead tasting event here from groupon, despite barely knowing what mead is. Were we surprised!! It's essentially fermented honey wine that may have flavors added. They took us inside and explained in detail how mead is made. Then they had the tasting event. My favorite was actually the original one. All bottles were around 25$ I think. Great friendly staff who are super passionate about their job and making the best mead possible.
Came here as a belated birthday gift from one of my best friends. The owner, Sergio, is absolutely hilarious! It was wonderful seeing how they started as a Mom & Pop shop and how they're quickly growing. I, personally, don't like honey, however, I was so surprised by how tasty these meads were! Definitely recommended it!
Decided to visit here as a birthday gift for my sister. They had a deal on groupon, 4 people for $35. Once you walk in you check in and you are brought into the tasting room.
It starts off with informative information about what mead is and then you are brought into the production room where you can see where all the action happens. They are willing to answer any questions you have about the process of making mead. After that we are brought back into the tasking room where wine glasses are set up as well pure h20 and a spit bowl where you could pour the wine into if you did not like it. We were able to sample 6 of their different meads and buy full bottles at the end (we decided on the Berry Chic which was our favorite). They also had promotional deals where if you bought a certain amount of bottles you could get a free wine tote or discounts on clothing items. Had a lot of fun doing something different on a Sunday afternoon.
The boyfriend and I got a Groupon offer for a tour for two and had a great time at the tour! This place was a little bit hard to find because it's behind the strip mall (where the dumpsters are), but these guys really makes some amazing mead!
During the tour, we learned a lot about the mead making process and it's interesting and young history. We also got to try six different types of mead and they were delicious. The flavors they used with the honey are unexpected and delicious, like the espresso mead, berry mead, chocolate mead, and ginger mead.
The facility was really clean and the staffs are knowledgeable and friendly. The tour lasted about an hour. Overall, highly recommend this place making history as the first meadery of New Jersey.
I am a huge wine lover but I've never tried mead before.. I must say I was extremely impressed. Out of 5 flavors from our tasting, there was not one I didn't like. Sergio made the experience extremely fun with great humor to keep us all entertained! Definitely highly recommended!!!!
