  1. The manager reached out to me because my initial experience was average.  I gave the melter skelter and tomato soup a try today and both were good although I have to agree with some others that you really feel like your arteries are getting clogged.  I wish the jalapeños on the grilled cheese were spicier, this would have made the sandwich even better!   Service at this location still felt a little frazzled, but still really impressed by their customer service.

  2. Meltkraft just opened in my work neighborhood and I've been wanting to try it out. The line wasn't too long the other day so I decided to finally get it. I ordered the classic and added truffle oil. I only waited about 10 minutes, which was fine.

Got back to my office and opened up the box. The grilled cheese had gotten soggy and when I went to separate the sandwich it fell apart and stuck to the bottom of the box. I lost have the sandwich. Overall it wasn't the best grilled cheese I've had. I believe it would taste much better eating there right after it's made.

  3. Fun, Creative vibe, to be sure.  Enjoy grilled cheese & more choices of creative grilled cheese. They also make milk shakes! I have not tried the shakes here…yet.

All the cheese comes from Valley Sheperd Creamery, in New Jersey. All sandwiches are served with a bag of kettle chips. There is a Combo Deal, so be sure to get that info when you are there! Read/See the large info sign.  If you want to add a "topping" to your grilled cheese, then Combo is the way to go$. You'll save money by ordering the combo….which I did not do, and part-way thru my grilled cheese noticed Boylan's soda, and bought a small size soda fountain Boylan's Red Birch Beer. And so worth it.

There is Boylan's soda available in glass bottles OR, in serve-yourself fountain spouts .  There is a great selection of Boylan's beloved flavors. This is the first time I have ever seen a BOYLAN'S Soda Fountain with a lot of Boylan's soda flavors. (Yes, I am purposely saying "Boylan's" a lot, because, it is a big deal.)

Another first for me was trying & liking Boylan's "Red Birch Beer"….think root beer with a little cherry flavor…reddish, brown in color. It was good. Very good.  I'm usually a water drinker, so it's rare for me to order a soda, but when we're talking BOYLAN'S, well, that's something special because of the wonderful full flavors available.

Upon entering, I enjoyed seeing the large, colorful, creative menu sign. It actually caught my eye from the street.  Nice, welcoming staff.

I loved the creativity of the owner, who made lovely, fun, lamps out of the assorted, clear-milk bottles. What an UBER COOL CREATIVE IDEA!!!
If you are walking by East 43rd Street, between LEX & 3RD Aves, be sure to look inside Melt Kraft.

Friendly, helpful service.  I'm told there can be a long line at lunch time. I was there about 5pm ish, no line, and two of the creative grilled cheese types were sold out.

I had the "Brielle". –melted Brie with cranberry chutney, onions, pine nuts, on soft brioche which was grilled. Since the bread was a nice, soft brioche, although it was grilled & tasted good, it did not have the crispiness of other types of bread, such as The Milk Truck's Classic, 3-cheese, grilled cheese.

See my photos. Consider the Combo Deal for best bang for your buck. Try a Boylan's soda.

I hope to return to try another type of grilled cheese….such good creative selections. I will consider a Combo since that's really the best deal. And I want to try the soup offerings, too!!

Small place, about 3 seats inside. I did eat inside.
Perhaps as the weather gets warmer, maybe MeltKraft will consider putting a bench seat outside during busy lunch time, so people can enjoy their grilled cheese ASAP. Even a narrow, long bench would help…something to sit on.

There is an H & R Block across the street, so if you are going to get your taxes done, you may need some comfort food!! Before or After taxes. Reward yourself! MeltKraft is a block from Grand Central. 43rd Street, between Lex., & 3rd Ave.

  4. Hmmm….I was really looking forward to stopping by heat after passing by for a few months straight when enroute to work. When the opportunity and craving aligned one day, I was beyond psyched to finally try it out.

I walked over right befor the lunch rush- around 11:35 am and ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with beef.  At first I considered getting the advertised combo that comes with a soda until I was alerted that the fountain sodas weren't working that day. I rarely drink soda, so I guess it was not meant for me to have a treat that day. Luckily I had a ginger ale in my office that had been in a drawer for a few months (more on that later).

Now I'm not an idiot, I totally expected an establishment that specializes in grilled cheese to make a REALLY CHEESY sandwich. The amount of butter used was however unexpected. My stomach quickly started turning. This WAS NOT food poison (so totally not a stab at the restaurant), but my body does not do very well with really greasy food sometimes. Luckily I stopped eating before hitting the halfway mark, remembered the ginger ale in my bottom drawer and quickly ended lunch before it got any worse.

Perhaps my stomach is just too sensitive and you won't have that problem. I hope so, because the flavor seemed like it could be promising, the staff was nice and my order was ready quickly.

So long story short, I won't be back.

  5. I've been to MeltKraft's Park Slope location numerous times, so when I saw the signage go up on this store front several weeks ago, I got super excited and have been anxiously awaiting their opening.  Well, that day has finally arrived!  I went over around 11:45, fearing throngs of people out the door, and was pleasantly surprised to see only a couple other patrons inside waiting for their orders.  The space is tiny, so I would avoid going during peak lunch hours.  Once this place catches on and people realize it's there, I'm afraid it will be a complete sh*t show.  Hopefully I'm wrong about that.

As I've stated previously, the food here is ridiculous.  The sandwiches are so freaking good and the quality of the cheese is really spectacular.  If you've never been, think Murray's cheese on a sandwich.  There are several sandwich options, sides of kale salad or tomato soup, and a few milk shake choices.  The staff seems to be in training mode a bit still, but I'm sure they'll figure things out quickly and hopefully be able to handle the mobs of hungry people who I expect will descend upon this place in earnest.

If you're craving comfort food or just need a really flavorful and gooey grilled cheese, this is your place!

  6. The first time I came here, I ordered the classic with bacon fat, fresh tomatoes, and arugula. It was so fatty and delicious with the right amount of salt and sweetness from the cheese. The vegetables make the sandwich feel healthier and provided some of that desired texture with the gooey cheese.

I came again today for lunch and was very disappointed to find my grilled cheese too salty. I think it might have been from the caramelized onions I ordered that weren't quite caramelized and sweet.

I hope my next experience will be better.
