Ugh. So torn writing this review. The food deserves 4.5 stars. The service I encountered deserves 2. Came here around 6:45pm on a Wednesday night with a friend. There was only one other table occupied. I liked the interior, classy with some nice paintings on the walls.
I should say up front that I came here for a very specific reason. I had (and technically still have, but I'll get to that) a Groupon. The Groupon was originally $20 for $40 worth of food, plus an order of guacamole. My Groupon expired back in December, however, as so clearly and kindly explained by Groupon (whom I love) "the amount paid for this voucher ($20) with Metate NEVER EXPIRES."
My waiter did not seem to think this was so clear. He said he needed to call his manager. When he came back, he asked if it was worth $20 and I responded yes. He then said that my Groupon could be redeemed for $10. I explained that no, I PAID $20, so it's worth $20. I explained that I understood that the promotional value of $40 had expired, but it was still worth what I paid. He just kept saying "I know, I know". I asked him to call his manager again. When he came back this time he told me it could not be redeemed for anything! How did I go from $10 to $0?! So frustrating. I said fine, but that I hope he understood that I would have to report the restaurant to Groupon and planned on coming back to speak to his manager. He didn't seem to care (or maybe just didn't understand).
Now onto the important stuff. I'm really so sad about the Groupon experience because the chicken burrito that I had was honestly the best burrito I think I've ever had. So … fresh. The chicken was fresh and juicy and amazing. Chips and salsa brought to the table. Happy Hour is from 4-7pm and all beers are $3.50 during this time.
Bottom line: food was good. My experience really disappointed me though. A word to restaurant managers, marketing department heads, or anyone else who makes these decisions: if you don't plan on following the rules outlined with these group deals (Groupon, e.g.) please don't do them. You were already paid – and you entered into a contract. By not holding up your end of the deal you're screwing customers and you're screwing Groupon.
i order from this place all the time, and every time i order i get my food hot and fresh. and it usually comes in a decent amount of time. i usually order shrimp and steak burrito with chips and guacamole both orders are usually so tasty and they give a good portion which would have to eat it in two sittings. so overall good food could be a better delivery time but enjoyable!
Definitely A-OK!
Was pleased with everything I had here. The service was quite good as well.
The nachos and other appetizers are pretty good sized, so you if you're not overly hungry you could definitely make a meal of them. All the dishes are nicely presented and not sloppy. The quesadillas were tasty and filling. The only major issue I had was that the rice was a bit mushy.
Make sure to try a margarita!
I've been several times since I live around the corner and for the most part Ive been happy with the food. The burritos are consistently good. drinks are really good. I usually order the coconut margarita which is among the best drinks they serve. the mojito is good as well. They can get pretty busy during dinner time especially on the weekends. The staff is overall friendly however some are more friendly than others. I would say the drinks are better than the food but the food is ok. I would recommend this place if looking specifically for mexican food in riverdale.
Great Mexican food. I have eaten at this place three times and order from here every so often.
You can't go wrong with the tacos or fajitas. For lunch, the tortas (sandwiches) are absolutely delicious and come smothered in beans, cotija cheese, avocado, a meat of your choice and a whole other selection of toppings. Fried calamari is pretty stellar- not too greasy and light on the breading. Great guacamole.
The black bean soup is probably my favorite thing on the menu.
Delivery is speedy.
My only complaint is that their salsa has been inconsistent. Sometimes it is fresh and light, and other times it tastes and look like it came out of a can. The waitress told us it has to do with "who is in the kitchen that day".
Good food. And good service. I guess my experience was much better than melissa w. the server we had was friendly, attentive, and accommodating.
We went at 1:30pm for a late lunch and we got guac while we waited for our fourth person to arrive. They were friendly and didn't pressure us to order until she came to the restaurant.
Fajitas! Must get fajitas. I love tex mex – and you can't go wrong with fajitas – my friends got steak and chicken and i got chicken. It was seasoned perfectly. Another friend of ours got porkchops with lobster-chipotle sauce with mashed potatoes. He liked his dish! I tasted the lobster sauce – it was just ok…
I knocked off a star because the guac wasn't as good as it should have been…sorta bland.
