Metro Kitchen
“I mainly order breakfast from here, and it's just as good as all the diners I've eaten at in Astoria.”
“Also has online orders from a bunch of places, so I can order at home and come and pick it up.”
“We always try and sit with one waitress – I forget her name, but she has dark brown hair and an Irish accent.”

Ordered delivery from here per my neighbors suggestion and it was good! Ordered the ranch burger deluxe medium. The burger was cooked entirely through but it wasn't burnt. Luckily it was really tasty. They also forgot to deliver the ranch dressing. uhhhhhh? Food was flavorful, onion rings included (real onion!) Would order from here again. Hopefully the ranch was an oversight.
Lesson learned, I will probably order the burger medium rare next time so it cooks as its getting delivered.
I've been here a couple of times for breakfast now. The place is a little small but it always seems to be empty. The food is not great, but it's ok. I had a bagel the last time I went, and I wasn't a big fan of it.
Went to Ro C's hangout for some much needed brunch. I was surprised how great this place was. I had scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. I asked for runny eggs, but unfortunately the only thing running was my wallet. The bacon was awesome though; perfect crispiness and flavor. Hot cocoa was good – ask for it with cinnamon, even better. Chelsea is a great waitress, the others not so much. We tried to get water from someone else and we waited 20 minutes – totally unacceptable. Otherwise, I felt this was a really good deal for your money.
I've consistently ordered wraps for delivery from this place. Always delicious and tasty. Ate a light breakfast in the actual diner once and the service was kind and attentive. A bit slow, though even though it was early and diner was near empty.
I hope I won't jinx myself here but I've never had a bad experience from Metro before. I knew this place was going to be a great addition to Woodside the day it opened up right under the noisy and bird poo-infested Woodside station (those are usually gems..shhh..).
Although I've never physically been in here, I've had numerous food deliveries from here and I have never been disappointed. Since I live by a station where good food almost doesn't exist, I usually order food from restaurants that are a train stop away. The food from Sunnyside mostly comes to me as soggy but Metro Kitchen never fails to deliver (no pun intended). The service is very friendly and the people actually call to update you if they don't have something and the delivery guys are always kind.
I've had their burgers before and though the bun can get super moist, the meat is the real winner and there are plenty slices of tomatoes and lettuces. I've also gotten wraps from them and they were good but not great but most importantly, they were healthy. Souvlakis are also tasty and standard but nowhere near the ones from Astoria. Every platter comes with their crispy fries! The prices are slightly high but they're very reasonable, given the attentive service and quality of their food. They have a huge menu so you'll have plenty to choose from the next time you're hungry at 12 a.m.!
GREAT breakfast!! I took the "red eye" into NY, then bused over to Woodside to take the train home to L.I. This place is right next to the train station and just SCREAMED out to me to stop in for a REAL NY diner breakfast. Lots of tempting options– I went for the Metro Omelette (spinach, onions, tomatoes and feta cheese) which came with a glass of orange juice, coffee, and perfectly made hash browns. Great service, tons of choices (interesting blend of Greek, Mexican, and Irish!!) and checking out the tempting menu, definitely something for everyone, breakfast through midnight snack!! LOVE and sooooo miss this kind of mix/melting pot of ethnic YUM!!!!
This diner opened up earlier this year in the old location of Free Time Diner. The inside actually looks almost exactly the same. It's clean and has ample seating.
The menu is standard diner fare. One of the only differences is they have batidos here. That is a Latin American drink similar to a smoothie (much of the staff here is Latin American). I came here with a friend and I got the Beef Stew dinner. It came with a soup and salad and it was only $12.95. The salad was pretty big and an excellent starter. The beef was stewed very well – very soft. The Irish waitress here was very friendly and attentive as well.
This place is a great option for a late night meal. I actually like this place more than the Stop Inn Diner, which is just down the street but a bit more expensive.
Friend Tim and I decided to try Metro Kitchen the morning of my last day in NYC. I was craving coffee more than anything so I had the bagel and cream cheese. Truth is I really wanted to try a slice of chocolate cake or cheesecake that I spotted on display by the entrance. Tim ordered a breakfast special and was quite happy with his order.
After I finished my bagel, the waitress came to our table and removed our dishes and bowl of sweeteners. By this time I was ready to order a dessert and wanted a refill on my coffee. Waitress returns and removes my empty coffee cup. She didn't bother to ask if we wanted anything else or a refill on the coffee. Next thing I know she brings the check. No more coffee and no dessert. Oh well.
I gather from the various reviews that this place needs an attitude adjustment more than anything else. The Owners and management really need to take a moment and read these reviews. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this cafe.
