I enjoyed the food here (kale & quinoa salad with shrimp was really good as was the guacamole) however the service was quite slow the entire time. They were pretty busy as it was lunchtime though. Was kind of bummed as I ended up forgetting my leftovers since they took the food away before they brought the bill and by the time I paid, failed to bring me my leftovers.
Service was friendly though.
I'd come back but maybe during a less busy time.
Came here during my lunch break the other day with my friends and I would definitely like to come back. I got the bbq rice salad and it was amazing. I ate the entire thing. The queso and guac were great too and they had a good beer Selection. I regret coming here for lunch because I feel like it's more of a dinner place, but overall I thought it was pretty good.
Only downside is I think the place is really crammed and the bathroom door was literally a centimeter away from our table(no exaggeration). I wasn't really feeling the vibe because it was super loud and hectic, our waiter kind of had an attitude, and the service wasn't that great. But, other than that the food is fantastic. Would definitely come back here but only if I'm in midtown for dinner. Wouldn't go out of my way for this place, but if you love Mexican food and good beer then I highly recommend it!
Always walked by this place that's usually packed and finally time to go. Both times I came, the place was (almost) packed. I've seen people wait, but luckily I never had to.
First time I came here my friend and I sat at the bar. I think I prefer that because the alcohol is laid out nicely on the wall, and after 8 or 9 they turn on the changing lights.
I started with the smoky margarita since I wanted something with mezcal. It didn't disappoint and I'd recommend if you want a little kick in your drink. I got the Mexican jambalaya and it was delicious. Very flavorful and I was so satisfied at the end.
Second time I ordered to-go and got the green chili mac and cheese with shrimp and brisket. It was so heavy but so good. The portion was also huge as I couldn't finish it.
I would come back again!
I went there with a colleague for lunch. Decent food and ok selection of drinks. This is place is casual for a quick or happy hour. No dinner or dating spot.
stopped in for lunch recently – they werent able to accommodate a party over 8 on the same table so we split up into 2 tables. had 2 tacos for lunch – pretty small but loved them! the pulled pork and the cajun shrimp were both delish. it was just enough for lunch if you don't want to be stuffed. otherwise would recommend getting 3 tacos for lunch. not crazy expensive either and the line ran out the door for takeout the entire time we had lunch.
Impromptu dinner, we find great places when we wander.
A taco runs about $5 each, had the shrimp one and it was great, adequate amount of shrimp.
Had the chicken slider, about $5 each, not too fond of darkened chunky pieces of chicken. It was 'pulled' chicken.
The mexican beer (sorry forgot name) for $7 (not the happy hour one) is great and tastes similar to a Corona.
Ambience seems like a social scene, young crowd, trendy.
The burritos are large!
This may be my new favorite restaurant to go to when visiting the City. Yes, I understand that there is probably more than a thousand other places to go to when visiting NYC, but this place really hit the spot after leaving a concert at the Playstation Theatre and having no idea where to go to, other than knowing we didn't want to pay extravagant prices at a chain restaurant. (little did I know that Mexicue is a chain, but at least it's not one we have in Rochester as well) The food is just what the name says, BBQ and Mexican fusion. Pulled pork tacos, Burnt Ends Chili, Mexican Street Corn, and so much more. I ordered the Blackened Fish taco and the Avocado Chicken Slider. Both were a kick to the mouth after a long day of traversing the city streets and sweating it up at a Horror Nerd-filled concert. (I had went to see John Carpenter play his theme songs live). It really was a fantastic blend of two of my favorite food categories and the prices were spot on. I paid less than $15 bucks for the entire meal and in NYC, that's pretty much all you can ask for when you want a great meal without breaking the bank. I'd certainly visit it again and recommend it if you're in the mean for a southern/smokey kinda vibe.
After many times of walking passed this place on Thursday/Friday after work, it was always a packed house and at times people waiting outside to score a chair/table, finally paid it a visit.
A few friends and I decided to give this place a go on a Saturday evening, before heading home to relax after a full day of walking and showing my out of town friends around the city.
We took advantage of the happy hour drinks specials, except for me, I decided to have a Michelada, which was not part of the happy hour deal, but I was happy with my choice. As we waited on our meals, we had guac and chips, which surprisingly enough was pretty good and the chips were nice and crispy, fresh tasting without the grease residue.
We all ordered different types of tacos, and although the soft shell tacos were very tasty, it wasn't fulfilling so we all ended up ordering another one to fulfill that hunger lol. It would be nice if they had an order of two/three for the tacos because when you're hungry one just won't cut it. Overall it was good, the drinks were on point and the place was not overly crowded which was optimal for us.
