  1. The sangrias are great and the food is edible. The place is small but love the decor. Great to come with friends. I recommend it!

  2. The wife and I came to Mezcal's earlier today for lunch.

There are not many Mexican places to dine at that are not a chain in this area. They opened about 8 years ago. What piqued my interest was another establishment about a week ago in the same little strip mall.  At that time I took a peek in and decided I needed to try it soon.

For an appetizer we shared the Chori-Nachos.  It was not a huge order but just enough to whet your appetite and bringing some heat with plenty of jalapeño.

The Mrs.  ordered off the appetizer menu having the Papanita. Which was a flour tortilla quesadilla stuffed with shrimp, spinach, jalapeños and melted cheese it was covered with a tomatillo sauce.  I went with the number one combo which consisted of a beef taco, chicken enchilada and chicken tostada. It was served with a large plate of refried beans and rice.

The service was very good though the prices were a little steep for Staten Island. Lunch was $45. But, we didn't leave hungry and still had something to bring home.  Though at first glance at the menu $8 may seem a little expensive for a margarita it is worth it. Served in a large glass and definitely has a kick.

It is a charming little place. Looks can be deceiving when you first walk in but the outdoor patio teleports you to a little cantina in Mexico, or perhaps Arizona.  There are plenty of plants and artwork on the walls and Mexican music playing in the background.  If it was Manhattan I'd go 4 stars.

  3. Have ordered take-out from here quite a few times.  (Eaten in only once- the parking is not doable)  Food has always been great, however- should really consider some parking considerations.

  4. I was pleased with the guacamole and margarita, but the tamales were unremarkable. The salsa was very heavy in chipotle. The service was adequate.  I might return because they have a dessert I never heard of and I wanted but of course they ran out of it!

  5. After hearing my friend talk about this place, I was excited to finally try it on a group outing. The food was delicious! I had the burrito enchilao & finished my whole plate! We got the nachos and shrimp for appetizers. There wasn't anything I didn't like that we ate. There was a mariachi player and the space is decorated to fit the music. The staff is friendly & attentive. I didn't have to ask once for a refill on my drink & neither did anyone else at the table. The space is small, so be prepared to wait a bit. The parking lot is also small, so you're better off parking on the side streets. I will definitely be back!
