Michael’s Prime Meats
“Prices seemed reasonable across the board, especially for the chicken patties ($15 for 3lbs, about 12 patties).”
“The steak turned out to be medium rare, a little rarer than I like it, but the flavor was AMAZING even without any steak sauce.”
“It's too bad Flatbush is so far away because these would be a perfect fat free easy to prepare lunch for those days I'm home and baffled by Astoria's lunch scene.”

A good butcher shop is great. A great butcher shop is something to covet. Covet this place.
Growing up in Cleveland, I was used to dealing with a butcher for everything. Why buy stuff from a chain grocery? Plus we had the West Side Market. This place reeks of all the good memories of my childhood. Go ahead, try to find a chain grocer that sells oxtails in bulk. I dare you. Hell, try to find liver or kidneys. Again, I dare you.
Only thing I'd change is their website as it is hideous. But then who cares really? The meat is why you go there, not the web ink.
So I too read about the chicken burgers on here, and came to gather them. Michael's is an old school butcher (Italian I believe) that primarily services the neighborhood. The neighborhood is mostly Afro-Carribean, so that's what the items here tend to cater to. The shop is small although they seem to do a good amount of business, as I've never seen less then 3 people behind the counter (might be because of commercial business). Prices seemed reasonable across the board, especially for the chicken patties ($15 for 3lbs, about 12 patties).
Despite the makeup of the neighborhood, the chicken patties seem pretty universal to me; some high quality chicken formed into patties, along with peppers, onions, and American cheese along with optional spice. They're low calorie which is partially why I sought them out with my recent health-kick. Take them out frozen, in a pan or on the grill for a few minutes a side, and you're good to go. Given the price point these are a go-to for me, and should be for anyone living nearby. I hope to get some time to try some more stuff at Michael's soon!
okay, so this area is a bit of a food dessert when it comes to meats…..at least I thought so because no major supermarkets but checking my yelp led me to this awesome place.
Butcher that has been around since the 30's meant consistent quality or so I hoped.
A scorching 97 degrees but we needed some sort of proteins for the weekend so we ventured out but not before I called to see if they took Amex, they do, and a quick walk over well not quick it was 97, and we found ourselves in a butchers shop with all kinds of meats. They cater to the largely Afro Caribbean market for sure but also have their chicken breast burger patties and steaks which is what we were looking for.
The patties are pre fixed, obviously, in a this is your grandma's type of patty with peppers and cheese and were pretty tasty for sure. Tip: cook them straight from frozen.
The steaks were personal size, just a bit of salt and bam, delish.
Prices were decent.
Only down side was that there wasn't much by way of variety because it was a late Saturday afternoon so get there early.
Definitely where we will be shopping from now on.
