This is one of the best carts to get halal food from. I don't live so close to it but I still come here to get it. I have a few that are closer to me than this one but I have gotten sick from them. I have never gotten sick from this one.
I usually like to get lamb and chicken over rice with white sauce. I don't get the hot sauce because it's way too hot from here. The meat is really juicy and tasty from here which from other carts it was really dry.
Sometimes you will see a long line but don't worry it goes by quick!
I HAVE COMPARED BOTH CARTS IN THE INTERSECTION OF 86TH ST AND 5TH AVE. AND I'VE CONCLUDED THAT *PYRAMID* IS BETTER.
This cart is okay, and I never noticed that it could use more seasoning until I tried the Pyramid cart, their mixed plate $6 was delicious. Definitely my go to.
This cart has its long lines and the wait can be long (I guess the more they become known the longer lines will be from now on). I don't think I will be coming back to this one having discovered the Pyramid cart across the street. Falafels are super bad, do not eat them. They are now 2 for $1 (price increase)
I tried the chicken and lamb with spicy rice and then falafel. There was so much meat and rice that I couldn't even finish half the portion of what was given to me! I had high expectations for them, but I am disappointed to say that they are nothing compared to halal guys. The food was good, but not amazing. I was also very disappointed with the small amount of white sauce I was given, which I didn't notice until I got home, expecting my chicken and lamb to be drenched with hot sauce… But sadly I only received a moderate amount.
There was a small line forming when I arrived at about 8pm on a Friday night. However, it seems like there was only a line because the guy making the food was slow. Luckily, I didn't experience any racism like other yelpers have mentioned. I have to say, it was a bit nerve wrecking waiting on line, wondering if he was going to skip me. But I figured: hey! I'm wearing such a big jacket and taking so much room, there's no way he can miss me. I would definitely buy from them again if I was nearby. However, I would not order the falafel again, it was rock hard and cold. Tasted as if it had been sitting there for a few hours.
Allright — I used to eat 53rd and 6th every Friday during my 4 years in college.. It's been a pretty regular thing; I would crave it on weekends.
I've moved to Brooklyn (1 block from this cart) and to be honest I was a bit weary about trying out and committing to a new cart (especially because, I mean, how clean can these carts be anyway?) – it was the ultimate test of my stomach.
I don't know what it is but ever since I've been eating from this cart, I have yet to have a craving for 53rd and 6th. Although they charge the same price for a salad or a full platter and although they charge extra for pita, definitely this place is better than any other cart in NYC. Their falafels are BOMB too so try them out $1 for 2 pieces!
Don't go too light on the white sauce either, you don't want to miss out
Best halal cart in Brooklyn. Make sure to go to the one in front of TJ Maxx, not the one in front of Chase Bank.
They are super friendly and are happy to customize your plate as much as you want such as getting a plate full of meat or getting no veggies and all lamb and rice. YUM.

Too bad – this was a real disappointment. After ordering (there was one person in front of us), we waited a sum total of 19 minutes for 2 hot dogs, fries and 2 platters. That's a REALLY long time compared to your average halal cart and an eon if you are waiting with hungry children. I'm giving it 2 stars because the fries were freshly fried and thus tasty (albeit a bit bland because they managed to neglect to salt them after they were fried, a serious omission), but the rest was pretty darn awful. When I get a lamb gyro, I want those thinly sliced, juicy pieces that feel like mystery meat but taste ridiculously good. Not sure why, but this place chopped the meat up like ground beef after cooking it, and it was a total disappointment that they did. It just didn't work, all the juices were gone and the texture was gross. The chicken was no better.
About an hour after we ate, we felt really bloated and nauseated. Needless to say, I'm surprised it has received such great reviews. We were terribly underwhelmed.
And yes, we went to the one by the Citibank.
What an interesting experience this place is. If you come here late night Friday or Saturday prepare to be amused. The drunk crowd waiting on line for this food is an experience on its own. The food is pretty good considering where it's coming from, how it's made, and the fact that it's $6. I got the mixed plate which is lamb and chicken with rice and pita. Extra white sauce is a must and some hot sauce adds a delightful kick. Tried the falafel here too, not bad, very fried. I'll be back next time the craving hits.
Solid halal food cart option in the area. Note this is the cart near the Citibank not to be confused with the one near the chase/modells. A short but bearable line was in front of me. I got the Mix (chicken and lamb) over spicy rice (you can get regular rice too). I skipped the salad (in hopes of more meat and or rice). Solid meal and portion size for $6. Not as perfect as the halal guys on 53rd and 6th Ave in the city but a nice secondary option especially if you are in the area.
