  1. My friend and I stopped in for cake. They are in fact open until 2am so the Yelp time was incorrect. They have a large selection of cakes and pastries.

We settled on the apple crumble a la mode as well as the chocolate layer cake. Both were just OK, but it was toward the end of the day. I felt that the chocolate cake was not very dense, so this may just be a preference for the type of cake. The apple crumble was decent, but not fantastic.

The service was quite good. I think I may have just chosen the wrong items to get. Their black and white cookie and carrot cakes looked great.

  2. This place is a poor excuse for a diner. The service was subpar but the food was decent.  They charged for refills of fountain beverages. The waiter didn't check on us once. Not the New York diner experience we were looking for. Seems to be a tourist trap.

  3. Solid diner food.  I ordered from here when I needed some good ol' chicken soup to help cure myself and it was very good.  The matzah ball was big and fluffy, the soup was tasty, so overall it was pretty standard for NYC diners.  I also ordered the grape leaves because I wanted something else to nosh on.  Five came in the order and they too were very good.

Since this was a Seamless order and my sickly self didn't want to walk two blocks from my apartment to pick up food, I'm surprised it took them close to an hour to get to my apartment but hey, if the soup works…

  4. This is a great place to get brunch on a Sunday morning. the food was all delicious – chocolate chip pancakes, egg white omelette, pastrami sandwich, and a wrap. The service was definitely a little slow given that it wasn't that crowded but everyone there was really nice.

  5. Ordered for dinner through Seamless on a Tuesday evening, and it arrived within 40 minutes. My three-star breakdown:

Lamb chops – Lamb was fresh, but definitely overcooked. Thank goodness I had a knife of my own because the flimsy plastic knife it came with certainly wouldn't have gotten me very far. Paired well with the mint jelly so bonus points there.

Baked potato – A little overdone as well. I wish there was an option on Seamless to add toppings.

Broccoli – One of the only vegetables I like to eat. The diner did a great job roasting the broccoli as it had a nice crisp on the outside, and was tender on the inside.

  6. Standard diner.  That's pretty good as far as I'm concerned. The nice thing for me is the space itself. The place is roomy. There's a lot to be said for that in this area of the city.

We wanted to go to a place on Lex and it looked like the food (and coffee) was good but it was crowded and cramped.

The coffee here was fine. I had a spinach and feta omelette with sourdough toast and it was good. My wife had French toast and she liked it a lot. The food was good but the space was great.

    Service was good as well.

  7. Just what we needed: A New York Diner type restaurant near our hotel with tons of food options.

Service was good but perhaps not great. I especially liked how they had a plethora of food options. Standouts menu items were / are Greek / Grecian food choices along with a myriad of breakfast platters; those things being outstanding due to Greek ownership  and / or management.

Tables were mostly suited to groups of four or less. If you had six or more, then seating could be cramped.

Not a bad choice; however, I believe there are many better choices in this neighborhood for less scratch.

  8. Good Lord, this place was absolutely disgusting.

We came here because it had generally positive reviews and because it was close to our hotel. How Midtown Restaurant got an "A" health rating, I'll never understand. This place is dirty, dirty, DIRTY. Corners are encrusted with grime, every laminate service is chipped or cracked and the bathrooms….wow. Let's just say that an ivory light switch cover in the ladies room is dark brown with grime. Absolutely disgusting.

I ordered a ham and cheese omelet and hubs had a breakfast wrap. My omelet arrived fairly burnt and totally overdone. I would expect that a diner knows how not to burn eggs. It's not even really cheap, with most breakfast items coming in around $10.

Everything here is one star except for the service – they're super fast and friendly.

Otherwise, get your breakfast from one of the carts on the street. Even with all the pigeon crap flying around in the air you'll still get a cleaner, tastier experience.
