  1. There's a reason why this place is always steadily busy during lunchtime even when there are many many other Korean restaurants on the same road.

This review is for my lunch experiences only.  Been coming to Miga for several months now and the food was excellent from the beginning and continues to remain very consistent and delicious.  My usual dish here is the buddae jjigae (kimchi jjigae with sausages, spam, ramen noodles..tofu..yum!).  Hands down the best buddae jjigae I've had (outside my parents' house, of course).  Kunjip's down the road is comprable, but Miga's is better.  The spread of banchan they put out is also of good variety and quality.  I really enjoy coming here for lunch, it's great Korean food.

The service is good and the same ladies that were here from the start continue to work here, so it's nice to see a friendly face that you know.

I think they are BYOB, so coming here with a bottle of soju or wine might be a good idea also.

  2. First time here. Stopped for lunch with family.  Banchan offerings were plentiful. I had the fish Katsu which was excellent.  It was crispy and flaky.  The sauce was flavorful and the shredded cabbage was a great addition to the dish.  Others had stews and hot pots.  Everyone was pleased with their dishes….
The service was good although when they were clearing the table next to us it was kind of loud as they were banging the dishes.

  3. So this was my first ever Korean BBQ experience and it was delicious! I went with my two Korean girlfriends who said they would order for me and give me a real Korean BBQ experience. We walked into the restaurant and were greeted my the waitress, waited for our table to be cleared and sat down. My friends were in charge of ordering so they got the steak that is marinated in what seemed to be a terriaki sauce, and the pork belly. Once you place your order they immediately come out with so many little plates filled with vegetables, kimchi, roasted garlic, and many things that I didn't have the slightest clue about but i mixed and matched and found some really nice flavor combinations. I'm excited to come back and try something different.

  4. Delicious Duck Slices

This Jersey Korean joint did me some justice. The banchan variety was decent. I liked the dried anchovies and the fermented soy bean stew that came along with our meatstravaganza.

I had the duck slices, the pork rib, and marinated Kalbi. The wait staff was attentive considering we were the only patrons there. The pork rib was pretty good and almost tasted like the marinated beef Kalbi. One peculiar thing was that they pre-grill these meats for you in an undisclosed location and they bring the grill pan and place it on top of the grill in the table. It gives the experience a fast-food type of feel, which takes away from the whole Korean BBQ experience. I like seeing all my meat raw before I chow down.

The best type of meat was the paper thin duck slices. Not a lot of Korean BBQ places offer this cut. The duck was the only meat that came to the table raw and was cooked from start to finish. The grill was on a slant and had a spout in the middle that drained all of the duck fat mixed in with some grilled Kimchi juices.

I almost wanted to ask to pack the duck fat home, to make some home fries in the morning but I regretfully refrained .The grilled Kimchi is a nice touch and should be a staple in every Korean BBQ experience. The duck was succulent and awesome with a little of the sesame oil.

If you decide to go to this spot, I recommend the duck and nothing else.

  5. I stumbled into this place by an accident and had a very interesting experience in terms of food and service. Yes, it is totally love and hate right now. I love the taste of their food. It's probably one of the best in this area and always crowded. It's small space so make sure to get there on time.

Mackerel (Go Deunger) and Korean Miso Soup (Daeunjang Jjigae) combo ($14.99) is great lunch meal. Fish is cooked just right and pretty meaty as well. The soup is made with chopped squash and peppers mixed with tofu chunks and pork bites.

Ssam Bop Combo ($34.99) for 2 people has tons of fresh vegetables and you have a choice of beef or spicy pork. It comes with Korean Miso Soup and the normal side dishes that are pretty fresh. It's plenty of food for 3 in my opinion.

Only complain was this interesting episode with one of the waitresses. So I asked for some water and asked when the food was coming out. She literally turned around and slowly started walking with that "talk to the hand because the face is busy" motion and said "It will come out when it is ready." Wow. Talk about bad attitude. But I get that a LOT with the ladies so it must be me. I must agitate them somehow.

Other than that, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I have not been there during dinner so not sure what else to recommend. Happy Eating!

  6. Another one of the local korean eateries in the north NJ area. I was turned on to Miga by my korean pals and as with a lot of these places its best to go with them in tow.

The banchan here was a little unusual. A lot more vegetable dishes, some I hadn't seen at other korean places. They had some chilled pickles which were really tasty among fish cakes and kimchi. The ubiquitous radishes that you always get at other places were markedly absent.

As for the main course we had a tofu stew with an order of grilled fish. The fish was flavorful, and very crispy on the outside but soft enough on the inside to be easily picked apart with chopsticks. The stew was very greasy and rich (in a good way) and felt really satisfying as you're eating it and afterwards.

I want to try their bbq next time since I'm always on the look out for good kalbi.

  7. Let me say: the staff is extremely friendly and polite here! Our waitress was awesome. She even helped my boyfriend mix in his food. She also warned me what appetizers (which there are many) are vegetarian friendly.

However, only downfall is that there aren't many vegetarian-friendly options here. :-/

I got myself some spicy tofu soup with vegetarian broth and no egg. It was really good (and super hot when it came out), which was great.

Sometimes though I wish there was more than 1-2 options. But I'll definitely be returning for the soup!

  8. Miga is a gem in Leonia! I'd say that they are rivals with Kaya Garden (also in Leonia), but I can't give a fair comparison of both until I try the gaejang (marinated raw crabs) & ssam bap (spicy pork with all the fixings) at both spots.

I love coming to Miga for lunch. The banchans (complimentary sides) are always plentiful and well made. Nothing irks me more than a restaurant that gives only veggie banchans. I am not a rabbit. I love their boodae stew, intestine stew, fish cutlet, pork neck bone stew, and ssam bap. The spicy pork is a generous portion and they give you a BUNCH of diff veggies to wrap those beauties in. Pretty sure there was at least one veggie that I did not recognize.

You will notice that they do not skimp on their ingredients. For example, if you order the boodae stew, it is swimming with meat! Gotta love their generosity 🙂
