  1. I was excited about seeing a Borek spot at Union Square. It seemed like the perfect match– a beautiful day today combined with exactly what I've been dying to find in the area, Burek, after moving back to the US from Istanbul. Unfortunately, I'll have to keep looking. Also, from a marketing standpoint, I feel like more effort should be taken to capitalize on the amazing real estate they have. A cool shack in the park? Come on guys, today was the first time I had ever heard about this place!  The borek was not awful. It was mediocre (I had the cheese), but I think good enough to combine with an amazing location to explode with popularity.

  2. Very nice addition to union square, this permanent little pie joint serves Turkish specialties (as specified by the worker) with different fillings. We went with the provençal one: tomato, olives, spices, and cheese. The dough itself is very flaky, super buttery and the shape reminded me of a soft pretzel.
Overall, the thing was good, but I found it a little too greasy and didn't fall in love with the flavors all together. I love the texture of the flaky dough tho, it reminded me of the croissant flakiness.
I think that if you are into Danish like pastries, salty pastry things, you would enjoy the pies very much, it's just not my type of food.

  3. I really don't get how this place has (or will) last.  Convenience is all they've got going for them.  Ordered a beef pie on the fly whole racing to a nearby movie and was quickly turned off by the heavily onion-laden filling.  Ended up mostly just eating the crust and still felt like I had massive onion breath all night.  Made me long to be eating Tuck Shop instead (and also sorely miss former savory pie king Pie Face).

  4. Has a LOT of potential- the bread is unique and flaky, the fillings are plentiful, and it's in an amazing location (right by the westside subway entrance). However, the pie I received was cold, dry, and not seasoned at all (the ground beef). I would suggest they not only offer some quick heating option (most people are eating it right there on the go!), season the meat a little, and maybe sell some dipping sauces on the side.
