Mike’s Diner
“It's almost the Full Monty, English Breakfast ( Irish = no beans or mushrooms and the sausages are rubbish).”
“Open 24hrs, HUGE menu (seriously, just think of something you want, and they probably have it), and an incredibly friendly/easy going waitstaff!”
“DEFINITELY BETTER THAN NEPTUNE.”

Ive heard that this restaurant has been featured in alot of movies and television shows. WHY? I guess its easy to capture certain camera angles since there are no partitions or anything obstructing a cameras view.
The food was mediocre at best and the prices were very reasonable. I guess its a favorite of some since it NEVER closes and its cheap. I guess if I was starving it would be a place of choice. It wasnt bad… it was generous at least.
Holy deliciousness. Great poached eggs, nice selection of breakfast items, and really fast, courteous service. Prices are fair, especially given the proximity to the N/Q train.
i'd only come here for brunch when i lived in astoria. why? because their challah bread french toast is dreamy. super satisfying diner. 🙂 lots of bang for your buck.
What a cute place. The front was open because it was a nice day. Unfortunately I did not try the food. I had carrot cake which was delicious. The servers were very nice and friendly. I hope to try the food one day.
Mike's is a very solid 24-hour diner in Astoria. They have a huge menu with a lot of different options and the service was very quick. I ordered the Big Breakfast (2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon/sausage, potatoes and 2 pancakes) and also had some of the Rancheros omelet. it was very solid and filling, but the potatoes were really poorly done. They weren't hot or well-cooked. I like nice fried potatoes, and these just didn't do the trick. But, that being said, this place is good for diner food for brunch or a late night.
Solid food,, and if the staff get to know you very friendly service.
Everything on the menu here is pretty standard except tor their stuffed mushrooms. These things are *amazing*. Big portobellos stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp bits and so many other good things. I'm thinking it's an original recipe and it's just incredible.
Sometimes the answer is right in front of your face and you just refuse to see it. The question in this case was: where can I find a really authentic Greek diner with a good feta cheese omelette in New York City? And yet, even after seeing this place on my handy dandy Yelp app – and across from me as I departed the train at the Ditmars stop in Astoria – I wandered the whole area looking for somewhere else.
I mean, come on, this one should have been obvious. It was basically (but incorrectly) calling my name! And once I *finally* got inside, it was a classic Greek deli with large portions with (for New York) cheap prices.
There were some flaws though. While my feta omelette was very satisfying, I do feel as though the cheese was kind of oddly distributed. While I don't mind a "buried treasure" kind of omelette, I do prefer the my fillings be in every bite. Especially the magic that is feta cheese. The eggs were also slightly burnt. But I've come to expect this as the norm for a Greek omelette.
And the service was pretty pushy to be honest. And a bit rude. I got one of their house soup specialties, the egg lemon, not realizing it had chicken in it. I ate around the chicken (it was amazing soup and totally worth being a really bad pescetarian and a little bit of stomachache). That was fine. But when the server came back a long time after and I told her my dilemma she said, "a little chicken isn't going to kill you." Well, no. But I would have hated to see her reaction had I actually, fate forbid, wanted to return the soup.
Since, yes, the soup did not kill me, I have scratched an authentic NYC Greek diner off of my bucket list. Still it left me wanting slightly more. Maybe there's a Michael's Diner out there with a perfect feta cheese omelette!
I had a hankering for veral parm with spaghetti and mozzie sticks. I searched grubhub. Of the places who had the option, they looked the best and had the right price. I ordered. Decent delivery time, good portions, and it hit the spot!
