I have been to NYC at least once a year for the past 5 years and this is ALWAYS on my must-stop list. I'm absolutely obsessed with cookies and this spot has been baking some top-notch cookies for a long time. Nestled off a little side street in the West Village, this was absolutely going to be a stop on my wife and mine's DIY food tour.

As soon as you walk into the door of this cookie specialty shop you get hit with aroma of fresh baked cookies. A little pricey for a cookie but definitely worth it. The cookies are fresh baked and hit the spot every single time! The reason why I didn't give one of my favorite cookie shops in NYC 5 stars was because the clerk was a little rude when I asked her to heat up my cookies. I love my cookies warm and gooey and on previous occasions the baker has been able to comply with my request. However, this time I was rudely told that the oven would take too long to heat up and the cookies were baked this morning.

Luckily for me the cookies were very fresh and I definitely was not disappointed. Milk & Cookies has several different flavors, but the classic chocolate chip and the peanut-butter cup get me every time. I love this cookie shop and despite the clerk it will always be a stop for me when I come to the city. I just can't get enough of cookies.

I love Milk & Cookies–product + service– usually great. But today my niece and I waited about 5 minutes to even get greeted (we were the only ones at the counter) and when we were attended to, nothing we wanted was in stock (due to a big 200 cookie order they were preparing). I'll keep coming back but I simply didn't like the way that felt today. Acknowledging customers is a must.

I found this place to be your run of the meal (get it!?) bakery. They really do have a very wide selection of cookies and bars, but you really will have to pay for it.

Since I'm a Gemini and can't make a decision to save my life, I opted for the three cookie deal. Though, it really wasn't much of a deal. For $8.25 you can choose three from about 10 different cookie flavors. I tried the chocolate chip (which has oatmeal in it), the chocolate chip toffee, and the milk chocolate caramel. The chocolate chip toffee (which also has oatmeal in it) was the winner for me. The cookies are a nice medium-large size, but definitely not worth almost $10 for three or $2.75 for one. Standard brownies/blondies will cost you about $5.

If you're in the area, this isn't a bad spot to try out, but I honestly feel like there are cheaper bakeries with equally, if not more, delicious cookie options.

We went here for dessert after dinner on date night. When you walk in the place smells amazing. It looks cute with a couple of tables and then the counter.

We got an ice cream sandwich with dark chocolate ice cream sandwiches between and peanut butter chocolate cookie and a chocolate chip cookie. It was delicious. Only would have been better if they warmed up the cookies to make them more gooey. Would come back!

So, it's pretty hard to compare to the holy grail of cookies: Levain, but I will try to rate these on their own. Milk & Cookies is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the more busy streets in the west village. They have a variety of cookies all on trays ready to be bought. Not sure how long they sat out on those trays after being baked, but I think it was probably for a while as they were a bit stale when I ate them. I got the double chocolate chip, S'mores, and chocolate chip. The double chocolate chip was ok but not really rich with flavor and was a little dry. The chocolate chip was good, but nothing special. The s'mores cookie was the best of the three.

These cookies were pricey and, in my opinion, not worth it.

I been here a couple of times with Lapin. The treats are a bit expensive but really delicious. He loves the blueberry crumble (around $5) and I love the cookies. They make most of the stuff in store and there is a small eating section in front of the shop. The customer service is a bit of a hit or a miss though.

We stopped here for quick sweet snack and each got a chocolate cookie. It was good but too many chocolate chips! It may seem like a good idea to have so many chips but the cookie becomes too sweet and lacks texture other than chips. I did not really enjoy it and would not get it again. I prefer something less cloyingly sweet.

Location: hidden from all those beautiful stores, milk& cookies is definitely a neighborhood based bakery shop because without the passion for searching for bakeries, I would never know that this place had ever existed.
When you stepped into the store, you would experience something like a dark basement feeling.. It was just a little bit weird.
I went straight for cookies, because all i need is a little bit sweetness.

Cookie: They bake various of cookies. I chose dark chocolate. It was not warmed up, and they did not offer any warm up service. And their trays are full of cookies… bad business?!
The cookie is bit stale, and cold.
    But still average.

Service: dude, what are you talking about?

Overall: maybe a heat spot for local west villagers, but definitely not a hit spot for midtowner.
