  1. Sister bar to the equally impressive Astoria Bier & Cheese. Not as spacious as the other bar, but similar menu and a nice variety of craft beers on bottle and draft.

Ordered the beer/cheese pairing ($18): 4 five-oz beers paired with 4 cheeses all detailed out on the menu against the wall. Presentation is solid: a slate plate, 4 cheeses, bread, and fig palette cleanser. I would say 3 of the pairings hit the mark. I'm not a huge fan of pilseners, so was never going to enjoy that one.

Love the deli-style offerings and efficient service. A well needed addition to the area. Will certainly visit their Chelsea location as well to try their chocolate grilled cheese.

  2. Milk & Hops is a great place to unwind and just relax. The bartenders/cooks aren't fussy and they have a great selection of beers and cheese. They do a great take on Vietnamese subs. I do wish that the place had more seating and maybe a happy hour deal.

The staff had tons of knowledge about their selection of cheeses and beers.

  3. For legit reasons my friend Steph and I hold a pretty huge grudge against Astoria Bier and Cheese. Both of our reviews for that establishment pretty accurately describe the shit customer service you can receive there. So, naturally, we needed to find a new craft beer place and decided it would be genius to try their brother/sister beer and cheese shop in Manhattan. It was nearby to somewhere else we were going and high on both of our lists for places to check out.

Some great things that make this place clearly better than the Astoria location:

    1. The bottles in the fridge are actually labeled with their prices. All of them. Even your $35 bougie where in the heck is this from bottle.
    2. The selection of beers is just as fab. Also their selection of meats, cheese, and sandwiches from their menu are nearly identical and awesome sounding. Also, FANCY PICKLES. Yaaaas.
    3. The service is waaaaay more friendly. I wasn't accosted, pressured at any point in choosing a beer. Actually the bartenders the times I've come in have said: "You can try as many samples of whatever you like on tap if you're not sure what you want." Music to my ears.

The foods I've tried here so far: Cheese curds: It comes with some fresh sliced crusty bread  from Amy's Bread but these don't taste like legit cheese curds. I'm from the Midwest and 30 minutes from Canada. These taste more like chunks of delicious White Vermont Cheddar Cheese. There ain't nothing wrong with that. Maybe they should try serving them deep fried. MMmmm fried cheese curds.

Ricotta Plate with raw drizzled on honey with those twirly delicate breadsticks that taste like vanilla and love and candied pecans. For only $4 this is so worth it. It's desert and cheese at the same time!

Recently came back with a buddy to sample beer after not being back for a few months and tried that bier cheese and pretzel. The pretzel is served warm and it comes on a chalk board labeled platter with an artistic swirl of spicy mustard. The bier cheese isn't the best I've ever had (Union Hall and Floyd's in the BK are pretty banging) and more disappointingly I wanted MORE of it. But I can't hate on cheese and I can't hate on craft beer. Which is all decently priced but there could be some kind of happy hour deal. Even a stupid happy hour that like ends at 6 or 7. Last time I came in most of everything on tap was at least $8.

Great spot though for a more adult crowd for low key hangs, meat, and cheese.

  4. Great beer bar with a nice selection of hard to find rotating taps and a great list of cheeses, sandwiches, and other sundries (pickles, conservas, sauces). I had the Mr. Crispy sandwich which is something like a crazy parm based croque monsieur. It's quite good and though it was perhaps a little richer than I'd expected I can't complain.

You can't fit too large of a group here though.

  5. Fun spot. Drop and grab some bottles, cans, or growlers of beer. A few ciders available as well. Both cold and room temperature depending on your needs. Also a lot of various snacks and things to go with the beer. Or you can stay and drink whatever you like. Want a cold bottle? Grab it out of the cooler and they'll add it to your check. Sandwiches are great too. Staff is friendly and welcoming. If you're sitting at the counter on a slow night you're as likely as not to end up in a card game with the bartender and some of the regulars.

Niggling complaint/wish – that they'd stay open later. Often want to drop in for a pint on my way home and they're usually closing up or already gone.

  6. I was out in Union Square looking for somewhere to fill my growler since we had to finish some errands in the area as well. Saw this place on Yelp and decided to drop in. The selection here is incredible. I fell in love with SFY here by Three's but they ran out. I ended up settling for a Pineapple Kolsch.

Overall, the staff could use some Red Bull. Not much interaction, but I can get pretty much anybody to talk. They recommended some places to grab a bite since they were closing.

Again, it's not that they weren't knowledgeable about the selection but felt like they didn't give me much personality in return and in a city full of places to go, that's a big plus. Will I be back? Sure. Will I cut straight to the point next time? Definitely. Regardless, two thumbs up over here.

  7. Love this place!  Definitely takes after ABC in Astoria very well.  Their grocery is on point with a bunch of amazing, gourmet cheese and meat offerings.  I took him the cheddar cheese curds and I highly recommend them.  For Manhattan, their seating is plentiful and the vibe is chill and nice to hang out with friends.  I can't wait to try the paninis next time I go.  They could definitely have more beer offerings, but they may be working on it.  The food is definitely an improvement from ABC.

  8. Great little place that I happened to find while walking by – wasn't even looking for a beer but really glad that beer happened because it was highly enjoyable. Not a huge place but they have an awesome selection of both bottled beers and taps. The pretzels are amazingly good – pairs perfectly with a nice pint. The cheese curds are super good as well. Didn't try anything else food wise but the people sitting next to me at the bar were sharing a sandwich that looked heavenly. Very friendly staff and service is prompt. Loved the Other Half brew that was on tap the day I visited – smooth and delicious. The ambience is very cozy — great to hang out with a couple friends and just relax. Very unpretentious and that's a very good thing. Happy I found this place – I will be back!
